I tell you what, the battery life in the 3DS is garbage. I haven't really noticed this until recently, due to me playing long sessions on various games.

I charged it last night, woke up this morning and started playing it at 6:30, it's now 9:30 and the battery light is on red. That's without using the 3D function either.

It seems weird as Nintendo are usually spot on when it comes to battery life, yet both the 3DS and GamePad are really shoddy when it comes to this. It's a shame the new 3DS doesn't seem to fix this issue either.

6:30? What's wrong with you? :p

The 3DS doesn't have great battery life but you shouldn't be getting 3 hours, what screen brightness are you on and how old id is your 3DS?

It's a launch model with brightness set at 4.

Still, the battery should be better than 3 hours. I have a PSP that's older than this that has a better battery life. As mentioned by others, the Vita battery life is also far superior.

Crazy that it's took me this long to actually notice this. :D

My PSP's battery certainly doesn't last 3 hours. More like 1. :p

Try lowering your screen brightness to 2 or something. If it's a launch model the battery probably has degraded though. Maybe an excuse to upgrade to a New 3DS. ;)

I'll just keep it plugged it. There's a socket near where I game anyway.

I'm still on the fence as whether to get the NEW model on Friday. Part of me wants it but sensible part of me cant justify dropping £180 on something that is pretty much the same as what I've got.

Hmm, as @Ike said, it does sound like a battery degradation issue, H-o-T. Unless you were playing online? Could be the Wi-Fi draining it.

Same here, although it's worse for me as I've already bought two! Out of interested, have you ever been interested in the XL, or do you prefer to keep it portable? Personally, if I only had the launch model and not an XL, I'd love that as an excuse to get the New 3DS. :heh:

I don't like how some games look on the XL screen compared to the original model. I'm not a fan of how bulky it is either, which doesn't really make sense as it's probably a better fit for my man sized hands. :D

 This is funny as that is my actual dog. Haha. Countless meme creations.

Anyway. I get what you mean as they virtually do the same things. But don't underestimate the brilliance of the New 3ds.

The reason I like it so much over my original model is because it removes all that was annoying.

The bottom screen imprinting on the top screen when it was closed and opened.

Slightly bigger form factor so no more hand cramps with prolonged use.

None glossy finish so doesn't look mucky all the time. (Anyone mentions my mucky hands and dirty controllers I'll hunt you down :heh: )

But the greatest of all is how great the new 3ds performs. It's soooo much quicker. Like amazingly so.

If you use Miiverse a lot you will love this. And if you don't, then you may well start to!

The only thing I'm not a fan of is that new stylus!

If GAME or somewhere are doing a trade in deal with old 3ds' (which I imagine they will  ) then I'd definitely take the plunge.

It's worth it for the SNES coloured buttons alone. : peace:

If you upgraded a new 3ds XL I think you'd find it a huge huge difference. The massive screens are quite something if you're not used to them. I upgraded to an xl, then downsized to a normal new, needed those faceplates. And every time I look at my girlfriends 3ds xl I get serious screen envy...

The new 3d may be better for you too, giving you a reason to go back and play everything again in 3d! :)

Nintendo of Europe press release.

FRIDAY 13TH - UNLUCKY FOR SOME BUT NOT FOR NINTENDO HANDHELD FANS WITH NEW CONSOLES, BUNDLES, GAMES & FREE THEMES LAUNCHING

Avalanche of new releases include New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL systems, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, plus more!

9th February 2015 - While Friday 13th is considered by many to be a day shrouded in superstition and misfortune, Nintendo is aiming to overturn this notion and bring good fortune to European handheld gaming fans this coming Friday, #Nintendo3DSDay, with a slew of new hardware and software releases.

At a time when the Nintendo 3DS family of systems has now sold over 50 million hardware units globally, the latest additions to the family, New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL, make their European debut on Friday 13th alongside two major software releases - The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D and Capcom®'s Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. Both titles are playable on all Nintendo 3DS systems, but feature added functionality when experienced on New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL, such as super-stable 3D and enhanced camera controls using the C Stick. Two limited edition hardware bundles, New Nintendo 3DS XL Majora's Mask 3D Edition and New Nintendo 3DS XL Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Edition** will also launch on Friday to celebrate these highly-anticipated titles.

Meanwhile, exclusively on Nintendo eShop, IronFall: Invasion, an intense single-player and six-person local & online multiplayer action-shooter from three talented developers launches alongside familiar faces in Kirby Fighters Deluxe and Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe. In addition, a free video-on-demand streaming service named Nintendo Anime Channel becomes available for download from Nintendo eShop, with anime series from the likes of Kirby, Pokémon, and Inazuma Eleven.

Laurent Fischer, Managing Director, European Marketing & PR at Nintendo of Europe, commented: "We are delighted to be releasing such an extensive Nintendo 3DS hardware and software line-up, and hope this offering demonstrates our commitment to providing the best and most varied gameplay experiences possible for handheld gaming fans."

Nintendo's releases for #Nintendo3DSDay, Friday 13th February, in full:

New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL: The latest additions to the Nintendo 3DS family feature new control options, face-tracking 3D technology, built-in amiibo functionality, and enhanced processing power. New Nintendo 3DS is compact and light, with a screen 1.2 times bigger than the original Nintendo 3DS and has the option of extra customisation using replaceable cover plates. New Nintendo 3DS XL boasts a luxury look and a 4.88 inch screen for even more dynamic and immersive gameplay. A free update will also be released on 10th February for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS that will enable amiibo from the Super Smash Bros. Collection to be used with the new systems.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D: The handheld remake of the beloved, dark and twisted Nintendo 64 game launches exclusively for Nintendo 3DS family of systems.

New Nintendo 3DS XL Majora's Mask 3D Edition*: A limited edition hardware bundle that includes a copy of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D and a New Nintendo 3DS XL system covered in artwork inspired by the game.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D Special Edition: A limited edition software offering which includes a copy of the game in its standalone packaging, a specially-designed SteelBookTM, a pin badge and a double-sided poster.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate: As players explore the world of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, they will face off against many ferocious enemies with up to three other friends locally or, for the first time on Nintendo 3DS, online using a wireless broadband Internet connection. Ahead of launch day fans should check out Nintendo eShop and get their hands on the demo, to brush up their skills ready for the battle ahead.

New Nintendo 3DS XL Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Edition: A limited edition hardware bundle that includes a copy of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and a New Nintendo 3DS XL system with an iconic emblem from the game on its cover.

IronFall: Invasion: A three-year project by independent developers VD-DEV, IronFall: Invasion brings fast-paced single-player and six-person local & online multiplayer shooting action, with the gameplay perfectly suited for using the C Stick of New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL.

Kirby Fighters Deluxe: Based on the popular battle mode in Kirby: Triple Deluxe, this standalone 4-player battle action game contains expanded gameplay, new arenas and the ability to play as a team.

Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe: Bounce to the beat of catchy Kirby tunes playing as Kirby's long-time rival King Dedede. This standalone rhythm action game includes content not found in Kirby: Triple Deluxe including all-new stages and new obstacles.

Ace Combat Assault Horizon Legacy +: Play as the legendary pilot Phoenix and control fighter jets that exist in real-life. The game includes compatibility with the New Nintendo 3DS system's C Stick and ZR/ZL buttons for total control, while certain amiibo unlock aircraft skins themed after characters like Captain Falcon, Samus, Bowser and more.

Nintendo Anime Channel: A new video-on-demand service offering fans the chance to stream anime series from the likes of Pokémon, Kirby, and Inazuma Eleven, with new content being added regularly. Access to the service is granted simply by downloading a free application from Nintendo eShop.

New Themes for Nintendo 3DS HOME Menu: Fans looking to spruce up their HOME Menu with a new theme are in luck! Anyone ordered hardware from nintendo.co.uk say whether they aim for release date delivery? I notice expected dispatch is listed as 13/02 and delivery type is "Delivery Method: Standard Delivery - delivered in 2-5 working days"

Doesn't look like a release day delivery...

That's not on for Nintendo, i'm hoping they don't go like that for Majora's Mask for me. Got Monster Hunter 4 and the New 3DS ordered from other stores.

Anyone found the Monster Hunter 4 white cover plate for sale or pre-order anywhere? Can only spot it on the Nintendo Store in a bundle. =(

I wouldn't put too much weight on those estimates, I ordered the MM 3DS which has a dispatch estimate of the 13th and separately long before that i'd ordered the Majora's Mask Steel Book....that has an expected dispatch date of 30th JUNE 2015....so either those estimates are to be taken with a pinch of salt, or i'm not getting that majora's mask for a good 4 months

Just got a dispatch email for my MM New 3DS XL! :D

"Estimated delivery date: On or before 13th Feb", the adapter shipped too :)

From Nintendo Store, that is.

News gets even better: It's coming via DPD!

Now I can find out quite specifically the time at which I won't be in that the guy will try deliver!

Honestly, I fucking hate when they don't use Royal Mail. :(

@kav82 - the website still shows the same info for me too, it's only emails so far that have new info.

I ordered within seconds of it going live, if that makes a difference. Just got an email from the Hut Group saying it will be delivered tomorrow!

Hopefully I'll be getting an email shortly as it wasn't saying it was out of stock when I ordered it and it was relatively quick. Thanks @Shorty!

My Nintendo Store page now says awaiting despatch as opposed to awaiting stock pick, as it did prior. Well that's for the New3DS, still awaiting stock pick on the power adaptor... they'd not ship separately will they? I'll have to wait for the adaptor to be in stock and then they'd be delivered together(expected despatch is 17/3), right?

Sounds like you'll all be getting it tomorrow! Jealous!

I'll just feel happy in the fact I've saved £35 by ordering it from France thanks to the exchange rate being great at the mo :D
