RIP Alexander McQueen

Recommended Posts

I don't have the foggiest who he is (I don't follow fashion and the like) but as Fused King said, it's always sad when someone dies so...

R.I.P

I thought more people would know who he was... he's the most famous British designer. I don't even actively follow fashion, and I knew who he was so well.

Yeah I was just about to post the same thing, I'm quite surprised, I thought everyone would have at least heard of him even if you know none of his work etc...

I dunno, I'd say Vivienne Westwood was better known. Now if she died, I'd be distraught.

Yeah, of fashion designers that aren't tied to those make-up counters at dept. stores (like Yves Saint Laurent or whoever), he and Vivenne Westwood were the two I assumed to be really well known.

And I know nothing about fashion/catwalk stuff other that it's visually pretty cool. (/ He directed a Bjork video too, actually.)

I used to do art and took quite a lot of influences from this guy. His death seems so random too, it's really quite a shock.

His fashions generally shattered senses.

To be honest I am clueless about fashion or who Alexander McQueen was, but I know what I hate and I don't hate that. They are pretty incredible designs so it's a real shame there will not be any more.

Gives the cloud a slight silver lining. This news will probably get more people like me who have no interest in fashion to see those designs and be impressed, informed and a bit inspired.

However, that blue represents millions of dollars and countless jobs and so it's sort of comical how you think that you've made a choice that exempts you from the fashion industry when, in fact, you're wearing the sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room. From a pile of stuff.

Whenever I hear that quote, you know what I think?

I think that the drug trade also represents millions of dollars and people's jobs; I think also does Scientology; prostitution and child trafficking. Defend those as well, please.

Using a trite, smart-ass quote from a frankly painful film does not disguise the fact that these fashionistas are self-perpetuating morons who can't get a job in the real world, and their "art" is no more than a shitty balls elitist attempt to raise themselves up onto a pedestal where they can look down on the uninformed masses who don't "get" their somehow genius creations.

RIP Alexander McQueen.

Yeah, he's the kind of artist you don't have to be a specialist to appreciate, just because all he did stunned and inspired people to move to such great heights.

The one with her tits out which was edited out by Ashley/Jayseven/someone is the most stunning. Actually could have been a costume worn by Queen Amidala.

I just love when things look great. Like, you look at them and know that whoever envisioned it knows truths about life.

Fashion designer come up with the most godawful dumb looking shit.

Call it art if you want, but it's still pretty damn dumb looking for something one is meant to wear.

BTW I have no artistic values. I think most of it is pure shit so just ignore me.

As per usual, death is sad.

I thanked you by accident. I meant to quote you, and say "You're bad."

Stuns etc:

He also made Bjork's famous dresses:

The swan one she wore to the Oscar Ceremony in 2001 (she was nominated for her role in Dancer In The Dark):

And the ostrich one she wore whilst touring:

My bland personality and engineer formatted mind, don't allow me to appreciate fashion design. My opinion is somewhat that of Iun but to be honest I have been impressed (even if slightly) by some of stuff shown in this thread.

Hmm, once again venturing out in the general forums (nothing else better to do I suppose?) and it boggles me that I learn of this news first here on a Nintendo forum, than, say, from the supermodels.nl newsletter which I receive in my junk mail folder every week.

Anyway, actually got a coat of his, from his budgetline ('McQ'), and not quite as exotic as for example those dresses in the pics few posts back. And yeah, in the fashion industry, some designers come with creations which just baffles, you can't imagine anyone wearing the stuff, not even on fancy parties and gala premieres. But I like/love the designs posted on those pics, so I wouldn't include those.

I really had to make an effort to get that coat, so I guess that means I'll miss his designs in the future.

I remember seeing those and liking them for what they were. The first ones especially kidna blur the line between fashion and art. (though people have worn them out...I take it that they're more show pieces that day to day wear)

I wish I could find the clip of this on Youtube. (Quote from The Devil Wears Prada).

Yeah... I like that film.

But, what that fictional character said is probably true.

But it still doesn't change the fact that to a lot of people, me included, couldn't give two fucks.

It's not that people who aren't into fashion are "oblivious" to the trends that filter down, it's just that I don't care and if it all somehow disappeared, I would just shrug.

But yeah, shame a person committed suicide.

Not a huge impact in my life, but... I mean, if I'm going to post then obviously, RIP and stuff.

oh lord i would hope so :heh: (they look crippling!!)

To be fair 99.9% of catwalk is not clothes for the sake of practicality. Its something that inspires, and compliments the human form. For fun and amazement rather than requirement. its not meant to be worn in real life, duh.

we could really just all out argue about what "art" is but that's overdone and boring. Art is whatever the hell you want it to be..
