nekunando Posted April 30 Posted April 30 I wasn't sure what way it was going to work but having had time to think about the update, I'm pretty sure it's a very good thing for my situation, thankfully 😅 I own a Switch OLED as my secondary Switch with my original primary system in the hands of my kids. With the Switch 2 coming, I was wondering how I'd work it with 3 Switch consoles in the house and wanting my kids to have access to both Switch 1 and Switch 2 with their own accounts. From what I understand, it should be fairly easy to link their Switch with the Switch 2 and pass virtual game cards between them and be playable by all users on both systems. I can then keep my OLED as is with just my own account and carry on with the internet check as I do now 🙂 I think it is going to work perfectly for me after some original worries after stories about the update emerged this morning!
killthenet Posted May 1 Posted May 1 One unannounced thing that it seemed like they've changed is how long it takes for your estimated playtime to show up. I started Ori & the Will of the Wisps about 4 or 5 days ago but on my profile it already says I've played 10 or more hours. 2
Glen-i Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Adding on to that unannounced thing, buying a game on your eShop wishlist now removes the game from your wishlist automatically. Long overdue, that. 2 2

killthenet Posted May 4 Posted May 4 I was wrong about them changing how long it takes for your playtime to show up - there's another game I started the same time as Ori and that just says it's been 8 days or whatever. I must have launched Ori accidentally a few days before I started it.Â
drahkon Posted May 8 Posted May 8 Quote Updates to the Nintendo Account User Agreement (the "Agreement") take effect in May 2025, including important changes (in Section 16) to how arbitration is used to resolve disputes. The updated version of the Agreement can be found here. To help you understand what's new, we've highlighted several changes below. But we haven't summarized all the changes, and this is not a substitute for reading the Agreement. You should thoroughly review the updated Agreement to ensure you understand your rights and obligations. Quote NOTE: THIS AGREEMENT CONTAINS A BINDING ARBITRATION PROVISION AND CLASS ACTION WAIVER IN SECTION 16 THAT, TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, REQUIRES BOTH YOU AND NINTENDO TO RESOLVE MOST "CLAIMS" (AS DEFINED IN SECTION 16) ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS AND NOT AS A CLASS ARBITRATION, A CLASS ACTION, ANY OTHER KIND OF REPRESENTATIVE PROCEEDING, OR BY JURY TRIAL. YOU MAY OPT OUT OF THE BINDING ARBITRATION BY FOLLOWING THE PROCEDURE IN SECTION 16(J). EULA Update Fuck off, Nintendo. Hope that at least the EU will push back against this. At the very least, I think this wouldn't hold up in court over here. Guess the new Joy-Cons will definitely have stick drift  2

Julius Posted May 8 Posted May 8 1 hour ago, Hero-of-Time said: Sales update. Forecasts for the fiscal year. 152m+ Switch units being out in the wild is simply insane. So, going by their projections, they're expecting it to probably surpass the Nintendo DS (~154m units sold) to become Nintendo's best selling console of all-time by Q3. I mean, considering this is as of 31st March, I suppose doing it by the end of Q2/Q1 of their FY (30th June) isn't all that impossible, but Q3 for sure will be the one they're looking at. The forecast of 15m units for the Switch 2 selling through in the first year seems perfectly reasonable, and will honestly just be limited by manufacturing rates and whether they reveal something which is a must-buy game that everyone will be wanting a Switch 2 for in the next 12 months. We also have updated sales figures for software: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - 68.20M (+850K) Animal Crossing: New Horizons - 47.82M (+380K) Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - 36.24M (+360K) The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - 32.81M (+190K) Super Mario Odyssey - 29.28M (+240K) Pokémon Scarlet and Violet - 26.79M (+410K) Pokémon Sword and Shield - 26.72M (+120K) The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - 21.73M (+180K) Super Mario Party - 21.16M (+60K) New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe - 18.25M (+190K) Nintendo Switch Sports - 16.27M (+530K) Super Mario Bros. Wonder - 16.03M (520K) Mario Party Superstars - 14.00M (+1.11M since March 2024) Super Mario Party Jamboree - 7.48M (+1.31M) The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom - 4.09M (+180K) Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door - 2.10M (+40K) Mario & Luigi: Brothership - 1.97M (+130K) Luigi's Mansion 2 HD - 1.88M (+80K) Donkey Kong Country Returns HD - 1.27M Of note is that Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have now become the second highest-selling pair of Pokémon games outside of Gen I, and this is the first time a second generation release on a console has surpassed the first. I think Sun and Moon was very close to achieving this (might've even surpassed X/Y's totals at one point?), but then Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon releasing the following year cut off its legs. 1 1

Easily the worst generation, despite having the best box legendary. No doubt will continue with that trajectory for Gen 10. Oh well, saves me 70 quid at least.

Personally, I'd prefer it if they took more notes from the spin-offs. There are some exceptional box arts there. At least Legends: Arceus went that way, but I guess it's harder to do when you have to make two different versions clear that they are two different versions. And starters brings along the problem of one of those starters being left out. There's a reason Venusaur isn't as popular as the other two. (Shut up, I know about the Japanese versions)
killthenet Posted May 8 Posted May 8 Shame that Xenoblade X didn't sell a million copies in the first couple of weeks but I feel confident it will get to that milestone eventually Will the Switch overtake the DS by the end of the next quarter? It's going to be interesting to see what the ongoing sales of the original will be after Switch 2 comes outÂ

No, not a fan. I would like them to do more interesting things with the box art, just figured they'd never move away from focusing on just one Pokémon.Â

Glen-i Posted May 8 Posted May 8 32 minutes ago, Ashley said: You mean the tumor throats? No, not a fan. Fixed that for you. Koraidon is the kind of thing 6 year old me would dream up as the "coolest thing ever" without realising it looks utterly absurd. So naturally, I love it, because I've never grown out of that phase.
BowserBasher Posted May 10 Posted May 10 Can I get a quick couple opinions from any one that may have seen this. I have just noticed tonight when playing Smash, that my Switch has either just come loose a the seam or is bulging on the top. As you can see it's between the power button and the top fan. Just played 2 and a half hours of Smash with no isseus so I'm hoping its just coming loose and not a swollen battery or something worse. Switch two can't come quick enough. 2 1
S.C.G Posted May 11 Posted May 11 (edited) @BowserBasher going by where the battery is in the Switch, it could well be that. It does seem to be a relatively straightforward fix though, no soldering required, just the right screwdriver, a prying tool, and the new battery to go in place of the old one. Switch 2 is just under 4 weeks away though, so you could chance it until then... but... if it is a bulging battery then... yep... probably sooner rather than later, though it might be OK, and you could be lucky enough for it to last long enough for you to do a system transfer, then you could just sell it as working but 'spares' knowing that it likely needs a new battery. But for the sake of safety, the cost of about £15, and a little bit of time & effort, it could be worth replacing. In fact, going by what other people have said about bulging lithium batteries, it is probably worth putting the entire Switch console inside a metal container just in case... the same goes for if you replace the battery, put the bulging battery inside a metal tin, or maybe even a fire-proof bag, in case the battery reacts further, and definitely keep any lithium battery away from any water source. Heck, just reading up on this has made me think about how I want to store any replacement batteries I have, even new ones. Edited May 11 by S.C.G 3 1
Dcubed Posted May 11 Posted May 11 (edited) Well that's bloody terrifying! That does not look like a happy battery (The crack on the right-side of the top of the unit tells me that it's not just coming loose, but it's the battery bulging). Luckily iFixit have a ready-made battery replacement kit for £35, which should be a pretty easy and straightforward job, even for a pleb. RedShell Posted May 11 Posted May 11 Ouch! My Switch is ever so slightly chubbier these days as well, but nowhere near to that extreme @BowserBasher! Unfortunate timing for sure (with Switch 2 being so close, yet so far away ) but it would probably be better to get that sorted out asap. Especially if you plan to system transfer. 1 2
BowserBasher Posted May 11 Posted May 11 Thanks guys. Feared it was the battery. No idea how long it’s been like it either. I just know I noticed it when I put the Smash Bros cart in last night. The fact that nothing happened last night is a good sign nut I know they could go without any notice. So I’ve unplugged it and will look at getting it replaced. 2
killthenet Posted May 12 Posted May 12 I think Nintendo have changed how your playtime shows up after all - I only started Fire Emblem last week and it's already showing as '10 Hours or more played' so it seems like the threshold is either 10 days since first launch or 10 hours of playtime, whichever comes first Varney Lake is only a short game so it makes sense that didn't show up until 10 days had passed 1
BowserBasher Posted May 13 Posted May 13 Just popping in to say my Switch is all fixed and like new again. I looked at the link @Dcubed sent and was going to do it that way, but 1. I found someone close by that fixed them for £40 so thought with postage id probably be paying less this way. and B. I didn't want to mess it up this close to Switch 2 release just incase I did something wrong. It does look an easy job though. If the Switch 2 was out and I could have transferred everything before doing it than I may have tried for the experience. But thought it wasn't worth it when I could get it done for the same cost. At least I'm back in time for Mario Kart on Thursday. 5 2
