Ashley Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Community Microphone - not just one on one chat, but whole rooms chat! Attaches to sensor bar. More info soon.
Supercube Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Perfect for AC too, as speculated, practically vital.
Owen Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 This is pretty cool in my opinion! and the way it goes on the sensor bar is a good-idea.
Cube Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I wonder how they'll solve the problem of the horrendous background noise mics like this pick up... Still, should open the gates for 3rd party alternatives.
mcj metroid Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 well sounds good about time really.. but what about the storage problem? they solves one problem
darkjak Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Haha. Finally you'll be able to communicate without onscreen keyboards.
gaggle64 Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Ah, this is a much better idea. Lets see this applied to many more titles in the future please.
Aimless Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I wonder how they'll solve the problem of the horrendous background noise mics like this pick up... Directional microphones and voice isolation systems would be my guess. There are commercial Bluetooth headsets out there with military-grade noise filters in them, so everything is 'currently existing technology', as a Metal Gear game might call it. Of course there might not be anything special about it all. I suppose we'll have to wait and see.
D_prOdigy Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 It'll be strictly friend's only. Hopefully this will be phased into other online games. So long as the sound quality is good, it should be a handy alternative to wearing a piece of plastic in your ear.
Eenuh Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I guess this could be cool, but I'd probably never use it in our living room... my family will think I'm crazy for talking to our tv in English... >.>; Maybe it's time for me to invest in a decent tv for my room...
Serebii Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Thats awesome :p many times while playing halo round my mates, since he only had one headset, we couldnt all communicate. Good idea and removes the need for a headset
flameboy Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 good news... and gets rid of need for headset, as I don't think the wiimote can handle much more being plugged into it.
Strider Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I wouldn't want to come over all anti-nintendo, but i can't really see why this is that great. I'd rather voice chat be more private than have it blasted out to the whole room. Also this will be perched on top of the TV? How will it react to the speakers which are about 30cm away from the tv? Surly the noise from the speakers would block out any voices being picked up.
Fierce_LiNk Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I hate head-sets with a passion, so well done Nintendo.
flameboy Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I guess you are right have to hope they have thought about it.
dazzybee Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 This is the best thing to come out of the conference (is devs use it that is). I hate headsets also so at least this will be more fun and inclusive. At least something positive
James McGeachie Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Only thing with this I guess is that it might require a fair bit of shouting if you sit a decent distance away from your TV.
darkjak Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Only thing with this I guess is that it might require a fair bit of shouting if you sit a decent distance away from your TV. Not really. Ever used a conference phone, or put a fairly good cellphone on speaker? It picks up your voice well, but the sounds from the surroundings dissappear quite well. Same here. I hope CoD 5 will use it.

Surly the noise from the speakers would block out any voices being picked up. I was thinking the same, and then think if you have a surround sound system. You'd prolly have to turn the volume down to a point where you lose the experience. FPS's with guns rattling every 3 seconds could mess things up royaly. But lets hope that if we can see these problems, Nintendo must have found a way round them, they are a multibillion dollar company afterall Thinking of these possible issues I still prefer a headset, but if Nintendo can address these issues (and say so in the next two days would be best) then i'll be happy

Noor is it on a conference phone. That's not an issue.
Ramar Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I'm quite suspicious of this tbh. Its bad enough when you've got a headset on and someone comes in my room and asks a random question. If I have this set up I don't think everyone will want to know what I'm having for dinner. Much prefer having a headset, thats partly due to the PC Gamer in me, and the fact it works well on 360 too.

Errr... The mike's not on all the time. You press a button, just like in any PC game. That you have the submit key pressed while talking to someone else, that's your problem. I myself m happy I won't have to wear any clumsy thing on my head. I have a mic built in to my laptop, and that works brilliantly when I play online.
Ashley Posted July 15, 2008 Author Posted July 15, 2008 Well perhaps you do that with this too, you press a button to speak (or one to turn on and again to turn off) incase someone does walk into the room.
