Why not just get a custom Joycon with a d-pad mod? I’ve got one and it’s amazing! It would be also be a lot cheaper than getting a Switch Lite, would work with any Switch and would be usable on the TV! -

Not quite as small as I was hoping for TBH... Otherwise it’s exactly what I was expecting. Shame that it’s gonna require a case as well (unless you want those sticks to snap off). I guess the Switch will never be as portable as a 3DS/DS/GBA/GB... It’s a Switch stripped down to the absolute bare essentials; the 2DS model of the Switch family. Looks decent enough though; let’s just hope that the d-pad and sticks are good! -
Agreed. The music compression (while bad on GCN) is ultimately a very minor issue in the grand scheme of things. Legends is clearly the version that the development team originally wanted to make; and the new content was clearly always meant to be there from the very beginning (but just cut out due to time/budget constraints). It's not like your typical, throwaway extra content you normally see in an RPG re-release (like the crappy extra stuff in Chrono Trigger DS); but rather it's stuff that is absolutely integral to the game experience and I absolutely couldn't imagine Skies of Arcadia without Piastol, or the Wanted List. It is major content that should've always been there from the beginning.

Just watched the A Dream Cast documentaries. Fantastic stuff! Incredibly well produced and highly recommended watching for any SEGA fan! Was very sad to see them all reflect on the Dreamcast's failure... There was a real sense of sombre about them as they discussed the console's failure Now watching some of Archipel's other documentaries and they're all brilliant! Strongly recommended!

That's exactly it. It's a way of introducing very similar mechanics, but without the associated costs and time involved in order to make new models, animations and designs for each Mega Pokemon. Game Freak have already had to cut Pokemon from the game entirely; so it makes sense that they're trying to cut any reasonable corner they can in order to get the game out during this year. If the release date is absolutely immutable (as is probably the case), then it's a sensible approach to take. If only Let's Go (and the original shift towards mobile) hadn't have happened... they wouldn't have had to lose a year+ on Sword/Shield's development...

They released ports of the mobile versions of DQ1-3 on both 3DS and PS4 in Japan... I suspect that they'll do the same on Switch when DQ11s comes out... They're not the greatest versions of these games, but hopefully they can fix them up and release them in English on Switch? -

I would hope that it would lead to a healthier industry overall; but quite frankly, I don’t think this bubble will ever burst without outside intervention. The gambling industry has continued to thrive, despite heavy regulation and a limited resource of problem gamblers to exploit. I don’t think that the allure of “free” games and microtransactions will ever wane. The only part of the industry that will eventually completely cease to exist (and is already barely gasping for air), is the side of the industry that ISN’T exploitative. Games without microtransactions are struggling for survival; and THEY are the games/companies that need protecting! I don’t think that the current AAA and mobile industries can be salvaged at all at this point. They simply need to be shut down and restarted from scratch. These companies are run by outright sociopaths who have no sense of morality and cannot be reasoned with. As far as I am concerned, the only real solution is to outright cut this side of the industry off completely. So I am in favour of heavyhanded regulation that is aimed at outright closing off in-game purchases; regardless of the splash damage that would happen. As for the issue of unions? Yes, Sag Aftra did achieve a (limited) victory; because they are a well established actors guild that stemmed from Hollywood. As a result, they have a level of clout that a video game developer union simply could never achieve. At no point in Hollywood’s history were they ever even remotely as exploitative, underhanded and fundamentally sociopathic as the video game industry. Nor was so much power concentrated amongst so few people/brands, whose faces were completely hidden. Actors around the world were able to unionise because THEY held all the power; their presence in a movie was the big selling point for most blockbuster movies! Video game developers however, do not have this luxury; and have no such power to speak of. These industries fundamentally operate in different ways, and the video game industry operates much more like the textile industries than Hollywood (as much as publishers would have you think otherwise). You don’t buy a Will Wright game, you buy a The Sims game. So no, I do not think that light regulation of gambling mechanics in video games is enough. I think that governments around the world need to take a destructive approach to regulation, because the heads of these major AAA and mobile publishers/developers have proven time and time again that they simply cannot be trusted. Nothing they can produce is worth the tremendous societal damage that they are inflicting on both their developers and their target audience; and they need to be stopped. But as you rightfully said, the situation (and the industry) needs to be taken seriously by worldwide governments before anything can be done... and that’s perhaps the biggest hurdle to be overcome. That’s not going to happen unless activists continue to pile on the pressure though!

Chilling to the absolute bone. That talk from Torulf Jernstrom is just too foul to be spoken of. It is just pure evil, delivered with the most utter of malice for its target audience. It's all the same strategies as what drug dealers use. There's no difference. I hope with all my heart that the entire AAA industry gets regulated into the fucking ground. Let them burn in a fire of legislation; raze the thing to the ground!

The creator of Towerfall & Celeste has been uploading some levels to SMM2! Hope we see Nintendo do that thing again where they get different indie developers to make levels for SMM2; loved it when they did that last time!

Not all of them are... All of the ones on DS happen to qualify though, since they all just so happen to incorporate meaningful choices and puzzle solving mechanics. Plus there's an end goal. -
It's plastic, just like the tip of a DS/3DS stylus. It has pressure sensitivity built in, which is what makes that sound; it doesn't scratch the screen at all though and glides effortlessly across the display. It feels more or less exactly like a DSi XL Mega Stylus when using it!

I saw someone mentioning this on Reset Era and took a punt on it... I can’t believe how well it works!! It’s actually like a proper resistive stylus! The Switch version of Sushi Striker is now officially better than the 3DS one! I can’t recommend it enough!

Figured I’d start off by testing out some of the differences in SMM2’s course creator by remaking one of my old SMM1 bonus levels. Outside of some small adjustments I had to make, I’m glad to report that I was able to recreate it almost perfectly! I don’t think I’m actually gonna do many more remakes TBH. I think I’m gonna just focus on making new levels with fresh ideas and concepts... ... After I complete Story Mode first! -

Here’s my Maker profile! My first level here is a remake of the Green Demon Challenge Level I made from SMM1! Figured that would be a good way to test out the little differences to start off with! BTW, the 32 online level limit is crap. The original Wii U game gave you up to 100!! (after you earned enough stars). 32 is nowhere near enough!! They had better fix this... BTW, for those interested, you can have 124 usermade levels stored in your Switch per System User and 60 downloaded levels per-user (they are now stored separately). Not bad at all! Now they just need to fix the puny 32 online level limit...

Game. Even though it's pitched a lifestyle product of sorts, it has strong player agency, a core gameplay loop, keeps high scores and has an overarching goal (Brain Age of 20). It's absolutely a game in the disguise of a health product (it's also loads of fun! Especially the multiplayer mode in the second game! I still love Picture Quiz! ) -
We've never really had the issue of crunch getting this kind of media attention before. While it feels like we're not making any progress, you have to keep piling on the pressure and working to expose these practices before these companies are forced to change. Just look at how some companies are now using their lack of crunch as a point of promotion for themselves (like what Doug Bowser did for Nintendo). That is what is going to really help to bring about change and that's not going to happen overnight. You have to keep piling on that pressure and to not just let them sweep the issue under the rug and hope people forget about it.

Congrats! Dragon Zombie is probably the hardest boss in the game (save for the final boss). Took me forever to be able to beat it! I know COTM gets a bit of a bum rap amongst fans, but I still like it myself. It's definitely not the best of the Igavanias, and the DSS system is a bit unbalanced to say the least, but I still have a good time with it whenever I play it. It's still way better than Harmony of Dissonance! (Just think that Aria of Sorrow comes afterwards... AKA, probably the best one!)
