Unfortunately it's not quite what I was hoping for... It's not a true HDMI signal (like the GCN EON HD was), but rather it just pulls S-video from the N64's output and converts it to HDMI afterwards with a line doubler; so you're not getting the same level of quality as the N64 Ultra HDMI mod It's absolutely NOT worth the pricetag. In lighter news... https://nintendosoup.com/shigesato-itoi-wants-people-all-over-the-world-to-read-the-satoru-iwata-book/ Looks like we might actually be getting the Satoru Iwata book in English!

Because Animal crossing still has an overarching goal, in the form of the museum and your mortgage debt. This makes it a game. Electroplankton has no goal of any kind. Therefore, it is a toy and not a game. -

Nope, they’ll be allowed because they have mini games that have you chase high scores (even though that’s only a small side attraction in Wii Music). The Wii Channels will not be eligible though (sorry @killthenet - don’t worry, you can still vote for it by proxy if you eventually vote for Splatoon ) -
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening REMAKE — 20th September 2019
Dcubed replied to Julius's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Guess they figured that selling something that was only worth 1p for £54.99 was just too much of a pisstake... Fools... If the royal mint can get away with selling a £5 coin for two grand, surely Nintendo can sell a Green Rupee!? -
We should ban @Ashley for his utter disrespect of that green guy (what was his name again?); shame on you!

https://www.gameinformer.com/2019/06/27/zelda-directors-explain-why-they-prefer-links-awakening-over-a-link-to-the-past Looks like some of the original version’s cameos might not make the cut... We know that Dr Wright is still in, so who could be one of the casualties... poor Kirby -
Oh no, you're absolutely right. The prices for that stuff was utterly outrageous! You'd literally have to spend hundreds to be able to afford anything decent! Hopefully the prices of stuff on My Nintendo will be much more reasonable this time though!
-
Yeah, but most of the stuff they've been including as pre-order bonuses on the Nintendo Official UK Store are just tat and guff. A far cry from the actual cool stuff we used to get from Club Nintendo; like the Project Rainfall coins, or the Mario Galaxy OSTs, or the Kirby Blankie , or the SNES Classic Controllers! This is a definite step in the right direction! The Club Nintendo site and survey system was absolutely crap and completely broken (filling in the surveys was an utter nightmare, where half the time it didn't bloody work!), but you did used to get some awesome stuff from it! My Nintendo fixed the system entirely... but they took away all the awesome physical goodies... Now they seem to be starting to bring that back, so... happy days!

Damn... this is really heartbreaking. The Switch version was the one I wanted the most... (well, actually it was the Wii U one, but... well... you know...). Something clearly had to give with this project... at least the game itself turned out to be good at least! Will just go ahead and get it on PC when I find time to get stuck in to play it...

https://my.nintendo.com/news/4ef506a5d1eff6d7 My Nintendo is finally starting to give out physical items as platinum/gold coin rewards! Starting with limited edition Splatoon T-shirts and posters! Took bloody long enough!! Now, how's about getting more of those awesome soundtrack CDs up on there Nintendo?

Nah. There’s no sort of overarching goal at all. Even Animal Crossing has your debt to be paid off, or the museum collections to complete. Electroplakton has literally nothing. All it let’s you do is make music. It’s not “productivity” software in the traditional sense (like KORG), since it’s pitched as an art piece of sorts, but it lacks any sort of overarching goal whatsoever. It’s a toy, not a game. That’s not a bad thing at all, I loved my time with Electroplankton; but it absolutely fits into the same category as KORG or Flipnote Studio (which would absolutely have gotten into my top 5 without question if it was eligible) but they aren’t games. As such, they don’t belong on a list of the top 10 games on the Nintendo DS. Even Mario Paint was allowed (after some debate), because of its inclusion of Flyswatter (which absolutely counts as a game); but Electroplankton has no such equivalent. Likewise, Wario Ware DIY was allowed because it had both built-in games, the Assembly Dojo (a puzzle game in disguise) and the ability to make playable games, but there is literally no sort of goal in Electroplankton; so there’s no way to define it as a game. As such, it doesn’t make sense to include it in this list. It says a lot about Nintendo’s shifting philosophy and the uniqueness of this generation that we actually need to have this exclusion now! It was a very exciting time for Nintendo fans and the industry as a whole; probably my favourite generation as a whole for that reason! Edit: BTW, fun fact. Flipnote Studio (and subsequently Art Academy) is where @Glen-i got started as an artist! Flipnote Studio is also where his infamous username comes from -

No, I agreed with @Glen-i on this one. It’s music creation software; there is literally no “game” here. Even though you have to save your creations with external solutions, it’s still not a game. It’s the same kind of application as the KORG releases on 3DS/DSi (and they’re not eligible either, for the same reason - funnily enough, they too lacked a formal export music option!). If we include Electroplankton, then we also have to include Flipnote Studio, Cooking Guide, Art Academy, Pictochat and other similar “productivity” applications; and that’s just silly. -
The Igavania CV games are structurally very similar to the Metroid games. Progression wise, they’re very similar; but the biggest differences generally lie in the CV games stronger focus on narrative, the fact that boss battles are not always punctuated with new traversal abilities as a prize and that there are a LOT of items and abilities that you can acquire that aren’t necessarily tied to map progression (but rather they tie into the RPG-lite stat system as character progression). That being said, map progression can sometimes be a bit obtuse; as you will occasionally find areas that are only made accessible via an innocuous item or ability that doesn’t seem to be tied to map progression; but actually is. Generally speaking though, you will almost certainly enjoy the Igavania titles if you like Metroid

Probably best to just give up on the Switch version and look elsewhere. I doubt that they'll be able to get it running properly on Switch, considering that it was never originally part of their list of platforms for this game...

Backer codes are out now for the Switch download version. Just got mine!

I do appreciate what they were going for with HoD. It’s rare that a game completely embraces its title as an underlying theme (the game is dissonant in every sense!); but its reliance on aping SOTN (and its worst aspects) ends up being its undoing. The level design is utterly lowsy, with no sense of pacing or flow; and it simply just doesn’t have many new gameplay ideas to call its own, outside of its overarching theme. Aria of Sorrow is such a monumental improvement from HoD, it’s hard to believe that it came from the same team! It’s definitely in the running for Most Improved Sequel of All Time. It takes one of Metroid Fusion’s best concepts and absolutely runs with it; and I was thrilled to see Bloodstained ROTN continuing with what it and DOS started!

God, the likes of Stadia and X-Cloud absolutely chill me to the bone... It really is a dystopian nightmare for any form of preservation! Praying with all my heart that these streaming initiatives completely crash and burn! They cannot be allowed to utterly destroy the medium’s history like this!

Have only managed to catch snippets of this live so far; but I highly recommend watching the DKC2 video when you get a chance! It’s an absolutely mind blowing run!

So I meant to get this up on Friday (had some issues with my capture/recording setup that buggered things up), but me and @Glen-i made some Developer Commentary videos of our own! Here's Glen-i's levels (commentary by me and him) Commentary on my own levels is currently uploading to Youtube and will be available shortly in a subsequent post. Enjoy!

I was doing that with the Kickstarter E3 backer demo all those years ago. I know that feeling all too well...

That's the problem with only having 5 top games; there are plenty that you want to include, but you just simply can't. I know that there's loads more I could've included, but I have to be brutal. I'm really upset that I couldn't include any of the Art Style games (honestly, I've probably played PicoPict more than any other DS game!), but thems the breaks. We have to cut it off somewhere! It looks like we're gonna end up with a really nicely varied list in the end though (even moreso than before!), so I'm happy with how it's turning out so far
