  1. 'Independent woman' is just an easier way to say 'single woman who lives alone and talks to her cat'. 'Strong female character' I assume refers to characters like Pippi Longstocking. She's strong, female and a character.
  2. This reminds me of when we had this discussion in a thread last year and someone said that of course female superheroes are so sexualized - they're doing it to distract the bad guys! Like, yeah, that's why comic book writers/artists write/draw women the way they do.
  3. I got a good seven hours out of this game because I just couldn't move on without. Finding. Every. Combo. Stupidly addictive. I started playing around 11:00 PM and the next time I checked my watch it was already 01:30 AM and it was time to take a break. Which I eventually did, about two hours later. I loved the item descriptions, too. Never did figure out what the point of ice items was, though. They always just seemed to put out my beautiful fire and ruin my combos.
  4. The only person allowed to use that phrase is Kate Beaton.
  5. This thread is making me want a massage. I wish I could, Dazz.
  6. You should know better than to drink any coffee they serve you.
  7. A room for grown men to keep their toys and, I assume, masturbate in private.
  8. You should read this post.
  9. Less Schwarzenegger, more angst about breast cancer.
  10. The Sarah Connor Chronicles never gelled with me. For a TV show about killer robots and time travel, it was surprisingly dull.
  11. I hate 'man cave' and 'man flu'. Bleurgh.
  12. I would never consider collecting physical copies of movies. That just seems like it would balloon in size really quickly. That, and I'm not interested enough in movies to want to collect them. I'm starting to come around to the idea of digital versions of video games. I used to be fairly obsessed with building a collection of only the best games on the GameCube, but when I got a PlayStation 2 I ended up with a bunch of Platinum versions and those look terrible in a collection (and then all of my PlayStation 2 games were stolen...). And with PlayStation Plus and the fact that a lot of older games are cheaper to buy digitally because hard copies tend to get rare after a while, I just can't be bothered anymore. After all, playing the game is the important part.
  13. @Ashley, can we please get a thread rip of all this smartphone talk? I would make it worth your while, obviously. Import it? That's what I would have done if I'd owned a Vita when the game was released in the US (plus you'd be able to choose between Japanese and English voices). I agree that Golden Abyss is Uncharted by the numbers, but that's kind of what I liked about it. If the original Uncharted had had the writing of that game and the gameplay of this, it would have been a much better game.
  14. To be fair, the first thirteen episodes of Glee were actually enjoyable. Then it got popular and went from being satire to taking itself way too seriously and it's been pretty much unwatchable ever since.
  15. I had to bump this thread to mention that Glee is ripping off Jonathan Coulton. (Sorry for linking to Kotaku.) Basically, Coulton did a cover of Baby Got Back with an original melody, and whoever's in charge of the song selection on Glee liked the arrangement so much that they stole it without asking. Also: Archer is back! I love how cable shows return when you least expect it. Also also: I'm so glad Private Practice is finally ending next week. It's always been boring, but I really hate the way every character has had their own episode this season. And how boring everyone is. Poor Amelia has done nothing at all this season, until last week's episode, which was all about her budding relationship with some doctor. That's her one last big storyline. A recovering addict who's a brain surgeon and gave birth to a baby with no brain, but sure, let's spend an entire episode watching her get wooed by some guy. Because this is Shonda-verse, and your life is not complete unless you're in a relationship. Except for Violet, but if there's a time jump in the final episode, I expect she'll start dating again too.
  16. Just tell people you're wearing it ironically.
  17. "It's the same, but different. 5/5"
  18. At least when no one's posting in this thread, you don't get your hopes dashed every time you click on it. "Hey, someone's actually discussing the Vita! Nope, more smartphone talk."
  19. I'm really easily manipulated into crying and tear up as soon as I see something that's even remotely touching. Even if it's the end of a movie I haven't watched or a TV show I hate. Oh, Man and Woman. You just seem so happy together. I'm sure you've faced a lot of hardships. Dazz, you really need to mention what game you're spoiling outside the spoiler box. Right now, people have no way of knowing if it's safe to click on or not. :p
  20. Could a mod please rename this thread to The Big Thread About Smartphones and Not the Vita?
  21. Oh, so that's why they were so vague about his backstory in Assassin's Creed III.
  22. I feel like I'd better recommend Binary Domain. It lacks the polish of AAA games, but makes up for it with charming characters and a surprisingly decent (if cheesy) story. The gunplay isn't as fast as in Vanquish but it's still satisfying, and the game has some great bosses. I'm also currently playing Vanquish and enjoying it. Never played Syndicate.
  23. The woman who writes about video games in my local newspaper doesn't know it, but she's quickly becoming my nemesis. Even more so than the guy who does the page with the comic strips - today, one of the strips had very clearly been cropped from a photo someone had taken of that same comic strip from a magazine/newspaper. This week, she made a list of the ten biggest releases in the first half of the year, and already I was annoyed because she used a picture of Tomb Raider: Legend for Tomb Raider. Then she used the list as a springboard for this week's column. She talked a little about how reboots aren't necessarily a bad thing, and how it's about time that Tomb Raider was finally rebooted, apparently unaware of Legend, despite the picture of it right next to the column. But the best part was when she noted how two of the games on the list were prequels, and hey, wouldn't it be neat to get more prequels? It's always interesting to see what happened before the original game! Personally, she'd love prequels to Uncharted and Dead Space. But yeah, gaming journalism/local newspapers.
  24. That's okay, you didn't vote for me anyway.
