  1. It's not like I didn't want to... And it seems like I'm not the only one... (not that this makes it right for either of us) I just thought that seeing as I'd waited this long, maybe going back after 5 to play DMC3 would have had more of an impact for me... it seems that I was wrong however. Well, I'm only up to Chapter 4 and I don't feel like I've ruined anything for myself so far, so I know what I'm doing tonight instead of playing DMC5 then... ...Devil May Cry 3 full playthrough, if that's what I have to do to attempt to make things right then so be it. Really though, by this logic surely the damage would have been done by me playing only DMC and DMC4 already seeing as DMC3 is the first chronologically. I guess the pay-off in DMC5 really does mean I need to play the third game first to fully appreciate it. For what it's worth, I really did intend to have them all played at the start of this year (not that I haven't had ample chance already) I did make some progress and then... well, the start to this year wasn't the greatest (I'll tell you about it another time) but still... I'll play DMC 3 before playing DMC 5 any further, assuming it's not too late? My reference to the story in the rest of the series is hazy at best so I'd say that this is a salvageable situation. Well, I do have two weeks off now so I guess it's time for me to make things right with the Devil May Cry series. So the chronological order is... Devil May Cry 3 (manga), Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening, Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry: The Animated Series, Devil May Cry 2, Devil May Cry 4, Devil May Cry 5: Before the Nightmare... And then Devil May Cry 5 OK, I reckon I'm up to the challenge. This should be an interesting couple of weeks.
  2. It gets better, trust me. Yeah, the controls are a bit tricky but from what I remember, Devil May Cry 4 had similar dodging mechanics... although that was a while ago, so i might just be remembering something else which was mapped to right shoulder, direction and another button but at least it means that you can't dodge by accident, although not that it would be a bad thing... unless you dodged right into another enemies attack; it's a tricky on that's for certain. Hmm, the last DMC game I completed was DMC4 so it has been a while for me as well, though I did dabble in DmC (maybe I'll complete the remaster of that) but I have played both Bayonetta games so I might have a little bit more experience, though it should not matter that much here. I am playing on Devil Hunter dificulty and I had trouble on both main bosses I've faced so far but it was great learning how to fight them and I kept going back, refusing to use any red orbs or gold orbs to resurrect and instead just retrying from checkpoint... I've found it's the best way to learn. You probably figured this out already but in the main big arena where you end up fighting the Goliath there are two green health items and two devil breakers, so making use of those at the right moments can be helpful, I seemed to just wait until he charged directly at me or waited for the three swipes and then just locked onto his horns with a charged sword ready and let him have it, knowing that I'd have to dodge away only three seconds later as he recovers quite quickly, the rest is just dodging his ranged attacks such as the fireball and the vortex which drags you in, if you get caught by the vortex, just sever one of your Devil Breakers... it's the best way to mitigate damage, just make sure you do it in time or you'll still take damage and lose an arm in the process. The next boss doesn't get any easier, so it's best to learn what you can early on but don't worry about it too much, it took me a good few hours just to get through three chapters. Everything looks and sounds amazing in the game, proving the versatility of the RE Engine, it even makes better use of it than both of the RE games I think, it really brings the world of Devil May Cry to life in ways which I wouldn't have thought possible before, I can remember when DMC4 came out and that looked amazing for its time, I'm sure that the remaster still looks good enough but compared to DMC5... it'll likely feel like a step back. I meant to play through all the DMC games that I hadn't tried yet before this game came out, needless to say that didn't happen but I do intend to go back and at the very least play through Devil May Cry 3 as I really regret not playing that game to this day and I have had... four chances now as I own the NTSC PS2 version, PAL PS2 version, PS3 HD remaster and the PS4 HD remaster... so erm, soon? (though now I've been wondering what it would be like if they were to redo the older games in the new engine... no! the remasters are enough... don't keep making excuses not to play DMC3!) In summary, Devil May Cry is one of the greatest Capcom series which I'm only really half-familiar with but really love all the same.
  3. I'm voting for Game #2 because of course I am... it's Viewtiful Joe 2! Excitebike 64 is good and all but I played it when it came out on the Wii U and I own it on the N64, so still no problem with breaking that one out if it does win. StarFox Guard though? It has been sealed for this long... it might as well stay sealed. But who knows... if this wins, maybe I'll unseal it.
  4. Nice list @Happenstance it seems we have mostly similar taste when it comes to MegaDrive games. I'm going to go through and highlight the games from that list I definitely have , probably have and don't have... Adventures of Batman & Robin Air Buster Alien Soldier Alisia Dragoon Batman Bio Hazard Battle Castle of Illusion Comix Zone Crusader of Centy Desert Strike Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine Earthworm Jim Earthworm Jim 2 Ecco the Dolphin Empire of Steel Flashback General Chaos Ghouls n Ghosts Golden Axe Golden Axe 2 Gunstar Heroes Herzog Zwei Jungle Strike Landstalker Mega Bomberman Michael Jackson's Moonwalker Out of this World Phantasy Star IV Pirates Gold! Ranger X Revenge of Shinobi Road Rash Road Rash 2 Road Rash 3 Rocket Knight Adventures Rolling Thunder 2 Shadow Dancer Shadowrun Shining Force Shining Force 2 Shinobi III Starflight Streets of Rage Streets of Rage 2 Streets of Rage 3 Target Earth Thunder Force 3 Toejam & Earl True Lies Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 Valis III X-Men 2: Clone Wars Ys III Zero Wing I thought it would be useful to keep track as then if I find that I do have a game that you want when I'm next sorting stuff and it's one I didn't know I had or don't want then I could add it to the trade pile, there is always the chance that I may well have some doubles as well so I will try to have a look for you soon as I have some time off coming up. Oh and Alien Soldier is part green and part blue because... I lost out on a genuine copy years ago (eBay scam) so... I now have a copy which I think the cart is a repro but I also think the box is genuine and either way there is no manual but now that the price has gone sky high, I've resigned myself to the fact that my half copy will have to do. I'm pretty lucky to even have the genuine box, I should really look into that to see as it was a while ago that I got it.
  5. I didn't get a chance to play any more Devil May Cry 5 last night due to me playing it so much the previous night... ...but I did get around to watching the above developer interview from Easy Allies where Ben Moore talks with Matt Walker about DMC5 and keeping Capcom relevant. It's a really interesting video and as much as Capcom can be a company of two halves, I am very grateful for their output on the majority of platforms. Resident Evil VII, Monster Hunter World, Resident Evil 2 and now Devil May Cry 5... all within the space of just over two years. I can't wait to get back into playing some more Devil May Cry 5, I left it right at the start of the chapter where you get to take control of V for the first time.
  6. And the great thing about The Revenge of Shinobi is, if you get an early enough version from 1989 to around 1990 I think you'll get the original bosses. There the ones based on various superheroes and films but they had to change them in later versions. It's still a cool game either way, I went for the original release on its own recently as I wanted all the main Shinobi games ready for when the Mega SG comes out. I also have the Mega CD version which is on the Sega Collection, that's the one I remember playing back in the day.
  7. I started playing this earlier this evening... nearly six hours later and I think it's time to call it a night/morning/whatever. I've just finished (or am about to once I get past this boss) Mission 03 on Devil Hunter difficulty and I haven't used any red orbs to revive yet. The checkpoint system is generous enough as it is, plus each time you retry from a checkpoint, chances are that there are more orbs nearby. So by using the checkpoint system you actually get stronger and you learn new tactics until you finally defeat the boss. This is much better than expending resources I reckon and it means you make the most of your Devil Breakers as well. Really enjoying the game so far... nagative points? Nope... not really, nothing that's hampered my enjoyment at all so far.
  8. I'm going to have to sit it out this week, I got DMC5 a day early and the urge to "pull my devil trigger" is just too strong. I hope you all have fun in Smash though and I'll no doubt be back next week as I have a couple of weeks off after this week is out. Also, just to bring it back to Smash again... it's almost a shame that we can't have any Devil May Cry characters in Smash, if only to have Dante face off against Bayonetta.
  9. There we are, up on the main page...for what it's worth. I know I'm not the target audience for this but I'm not really that fussed about VR in general... ...unless Nintendo releases a Virtual Boy stand with the goggles seperately and releases Virtual Boy VC games, then we'll talk. Thanks to @Helmsly for the heads-up, I've credited you at the bottom of the article.
  10. Haha you just beat me to it, good man! Still... here's the usual linked image straight to the page... Go, go, go! And yep... Nintendo finally put the price up, these latest ones are £12.99 (that Switch tax)
  11. I Knew it! Might I also suggest 1080° Avalanche as it's the perfect companion to Wave Race and also F-Zero GX because... well... F-Zero! Either way, I look forward to seeing which titles you pick.
  12. And it's up on the front page. Thanks to both @MindFreak and @Glen-i seeing as you posted about the events for both regions, I credited you both. So, who's actually going to have a go at this then? I'm not sure I'll bother but who knows when the urge to play Tetris will strike.
  13. I'd actually be... more than OK with this. The only thing is, when picking games for N-E game club is ideally they would need to be available on at least the Wii and Wii U as well... ...but they don't have to be, if it was just GameCube only games which didn't get released on other platforms then that does increase the scope for titles. Though this may limit the potential audience for the month.
  14. If this discless Xbox is really coming out and actually wants to be a success, then Microsoft will probably sell it close to cost or making very little on it, they'll make it back with subs. I reckon we could see it as low as the price that the Nintendo GameCube originally launched at in Europe... £129.99 Any more than that would be way to expensive a trade-off for not being able to read discs I reckon, because don't forget you then also don't have the ability to use older discs as well. With backwards compatability, I can play a lot of my original Xbox games, if I wanted those digitally then they are around a tenner each... ...but if more of those titles are becoming part of Game Pass anyway, this may well be a non-issue for some.
  15. I can't wait to see what you pick. Just make sure that they are games that you actually want to play.
  16. Now I've got the music from Kid Icarus playing on loop in my head... ...which is, no different from normal as it happens. A great game with an excellent soundtrack and an interesting alternative to Metroid. Now just wait for the "Special Version" in a few months which will probably give you all of the sacred treasures and put you right before the battle with Medusa. (Might as well be playing NES Remix if that's the case)
  17. Just when you thought things couldn't get any worse... (although the issue isn't that widespread thankfully, but still)
  18. I am Turok! Err... I mean, news is posted! Thanks again to @Hero-of-Time for the heads up, I've credited you at the bottom of the article. It's good to see Turok making its rightful return to a Nintendo platform.
  19. Anyone else thinking of picking up this classic when it release on Switch later this month? I've got some fond memories of playing GODS on the Sega Megadrive back in the day. Hopefully another remaster done right.
  20. I guess those two years went by just like that... *clicks fingers Switch style* Well, I decided to write a last minute article to celebrate. Its got some game numbers, some choice picks of games, a couple of memories and some hopes for the future. I wouldn't say that it's the most focused article but I had fun writing it and I couldn't let the Switch's second birthday pass by.
  21. I ended up watching a film last night, one I picked up with a load of DVD's second hand the other day, it was still sealed too though the disc was loose in the case. So I decided to open it up and watch it as intended and I guess I might as well write a short review about it seeing as I feel that I need to get back into practice... Underground Price: £1 (paid) Publisher: Artificial Eye Director: Emir Kusturica Released: 1995 Format: DVD I should preface this by saying that this film does have a war theme but I wouldn't let that put you off as it's unlike any film with a war in that I've ever seen, although it's constantly going on during the film as it's set against the backdrop of former Yugoslavia, I wouldn't say that it's the main focus even though thematically it's a huge part of the story, you can get the general idea just by watching and taking in the atmosphere. The real interest is seeing how the story develops between the three main characters, as two of them are "loveable rogues" as you have Marko who manipulates everyone within his reach, Blacky who is foolish but likeable and an actress named Natalija who is the main love interest of the two crooks. Watching how they all become wrapped up in this world of conflict while spiralling into the realms of self-delusion, deceit and debauchery... you can't help but become entranced by it. All the while there is plenty going on visually as there's a literal Zoo of animals which make appearances throughout the film including a very talanted chimp, (the Zoo scene in particular is perhaps not something you'd see in films these days for probably good reason, so forewarning there) then you have a brass band who make not only the very opening of the film memorable but through the entire performance keep popping up playing a similar theme while will likely get stuck in your head and much more besides which I can't even begin to explain, so I won't. It's well worth picking up if you get the chance and I can pretty much say that it's likely you'll never see another film like it, although I will note that during certain parts it did remind me of a more modern film, the fantastic Micmacs by Jean-Pierre Jeunet (also a great film) which made me think that he must have taken at least a bit of inspiration from this film even though they are alsmost entirely different. Verdict: An engaging ensemble containing everything that an unconventional war-themed film should with some genuinely beautiful moments and some great tragicomedy.
  22. Oh man, that Rathalos KO though!
  23. A new challenger has appeared!
