  1. Since the PS2 has only been mentioned for wearing the RPG hat last gen (and having God of War), here are a few other/different PS2 titles. Blood Will Tell - pretty fun hack & slash about regaining your body parts - the first 20 mins are even in black & white until you get your eyes. Castlevania Lament Of Innocence - lots of mediocre reviews & split opinions on this, but the music alone makes it worth playing through. Chaos Legion - Capcom hack & slash with lots of squishy bugs. Fantavision - Interesting quirky game about setting off fireworks. Genji - To fully appreciate how much the sequel fell short, play the first. One of the prettiest games with the best progress. God Hand - Fighting game with chihauhaus, fetish babes and fat Elvis. Gradius V - Arcade shmup by Treasure. Case closed, Gregory Horror Show - Look over here Splinter Cell...THIS is how you do stealth properly. None of this "here's a gun, but you're not allowed to use it" crap. Disturbing cartoon visuals, a nurse with a giant syringe chasing you through the hotel and dogs with axes in their heads are a bonus. Jak & Daxter - 3D Platforming at its best. Maximo Both great action platformers, the second especially is much more balanced than the first, and gives you vibrating underwear (to help find secrets). What more could you want? Onimusha - Legendary hack & slash series. Primal - Demonic adventure (and the only PAL game that runs in progressive scan) with original ideas & plot. Confusing as hell too. R-Type Final - Although nowhere hear as good as Delta on the PS1, still very good arcade shmup. Ratchet & Clank - Another great platforming series, more focus on guns than Jak. Sly Racoon - Cel shaded platformer with original moves - feels different to the usual ones. Katamari Damacy / We Katamari - No need to even comment on this one
  2. No show from them at E3 then... Perhaps this new Pilotwings is busy getting expanded into a huge MMORPG or something
  3. After the presentation on Monday, it'd definitely be technically possible... depends if the developer takes the time to add recognition of certain types of objects. Microsoft would obviously supply the libraries to recognise body parts, gestures etc, but how much work would it be for the developers to add recognition of other items to that?
  4. Just had a thought... Waving your arms around playing Cosmic Smash style games - works. Interacting with your pet virtual boy (not the console!) - works. Fighting game - (assuming you're mobile & coordinated enough to do the moves, and have the living room space) works. BUT... FPS - what you gonna do, run on the spot, point your finger and shout "Pow"? Or would you rather hold a remote in your hand, point it at the screen & pull the trigger? Silent Hill style torch game - would you rather grip a remote in your hand, or just wave your empty hand around? Tennis game - would you rather grip a remote in your hand, or just wave your empty hand around? Golf game - would you rather grip a remote in your hands, or just swing your empty arms? Hmm, starting to see a pattern here. So, in some instances, surely not having a controller is actually DETACHING the player from the experience?
  5. My favorite part of the Wii remote is the pointer. Technically impressive as it is, i'm a bit disappointed that they got on the "jumping around the room waving your hands in the air like a twat" bandwagon. Ironflame wins the thread
  6. Comparing to Motionplus, i wonder if Natal can detect twisting of the wrist?
  7. Oh i forgot, also have the GBC one! It's cut down & adapted but still a very impressive version. They used scanline effects to change palettes, so it has way more colours on screen than usual, and really good animation too. Special mention too to Rayman 3 on the GBA, it was 2D and based off Rayman 2, nuff said
  8. Thought it was the superior sound quality that made the Saturn version slightly better - graphics as well? Bought the PC version on launch in '96, and got the PS1 version a few years later. Played both versions at least twice. The PC version was so technically impressive because it had deadsmooth scrolling, which was almost never seen on a PC in those days. Great game, remember searching for so long trying to find the last few cages. Dreamcast was the best version of Rayman 2. Loved that game & played it through twice. The places where levels branched annoyed me tho - take the "wrong" path first and miss out a big chunk of the stage, then have to go back & repeat the whole stage. So much variety in gameplay, story & scenery. Unfortunately Rayman 3 wasn't Michel Ancel's puppy any more, and it was an abomination. Obnoxious "Hollywood stupid comedy" voice acting (and all the characters suddenly spoke American English) and unimaginative level design, with underused fists that timed out so quickly you barely had enough time to use them on the 1 thing you're meant to, which was usually insultingly close by.
  9. But in the GBA game where Cranky's karate is made into a minigame, that's uncool, no?
  10. That music turned Bramble Blast from what should've been a ridiculously frustrating experience, to "I don't care i never want to leave this level with its relaxing music anyway"
  11. http://www.siliconera.com/2009/05/04/factor-5s-wii-game-finally-coming-out-in-09/ "It’s no secret Factor 5, the developer behind many Star Wars: Rogue Squadron games and Lair, is working on the Wii. The studio claimed they have a powerful engine ready last year, but still haven’t announced an actual game. Perhaps, their first Wii game is coming out in 2009? According to Achim Moller’s LinkedIn resume it is. Moller also mentions a canceled game with Brash Entertainment. This fits since Factor 5 had a multi-game contract with Brash Entertainment before they closed their doors last year. Considering Moller is the CEO and Lead Engineer in the Germany office we should be able to trust his word, right?"
  12. agreed with chairdriver, Daft & Haggis!
  13. It's a pity the Wii's backward compatibility can't support BBA. Would love to try out MKDD & Kirby on 2 telly's or using warppipe, without paying some ridiculous amount for an obsolete network adapter.
  14. Also remember loving the footage (listen to the music in the videos!) and seeing the preorders on websites. Such a pity it never came here. Pixellated main character's face for the first part of the game, and hallucinogenic magic mushrooms. I dunno whether to love or hate you for reminding me of this game.
  15. "Whatever makes your corn pop." Sure i've heard that used in a pick-up line somewhere...
  16. A lesbian friend of mine used to think that song meant Shania was bi-curious. Got her all excited.
  17. Everyone should flirt with Haggis now, to make Coolness feel at home! *looks at Haggis*
  18. I can relate. Too much wanketh result thee in "Only by the power of one's own hand". On the bright side, ladies love it

    De Blob

Rumour has it the original has sold around 700,000 worldwide... that's absolutely crazy for a game that's both single platform AND original license.
  20. Nice retrospectives Ganepark! I have very fond memories of both these games, Billy Hatcher had some annoying glitches like falling through rails or the one you mentioned about the egg catching a ledge an Billy falling down. But it has huge amounts of cutesy charm, blue skies everywhere, and probably the best theme music since Mr. Do! Apparently the version showed at an earlier expo had actual egg physics while rolling, which then got changed to uniform rolling (ie. a sphere) for the final game. I wonder how it would've felt with the bumpy rolling... P.N.03 = can't say enough good things about this game. It had me waking up at 6am to fit in an hour before going to work, which hadn't happened since Wip3out on the PS1, and hasn't happened again since. Trivia: built on an early Resi4 engine (although Resi4 went through 4 or 5 engine overhauls during development).
  21. for quoting the opening to Kate's best album ever.
