  1. Once every month or so, having the Homebrew Channel is justified.
  2. Wow, that's a ridiculously impressive time dark! Think i only managed less than 5 hours on DKC2. You should keep an eye out for one of these: I have one and it's ace.
  3. DKC3 GBA actually seemed to correct a lot of the flow issues in the SNES version, eg. moving lifts/barrels, Ellie's controls, basically having to stop and wait for patterns in general. All through DKC games, level layout was made so that a perfect speedrun could mean the player never needed to stop and wait (Barrel Blast in DKC2 being a prime example). David Wise (composer on DKC1 & 2) did the music for DKC3 GBA; Eveline Fischer did the original SNES soundtrack (hence the sudden change from a "catchy" style to more ambient music in DKC3 SNES). The "new" music was not well received. David Wise apparently left Rare last month). Here's some other trivia to add to the list: On DKC1 GBA, there is an easter egg where if you go back to DK's house after defeating the Very Gnawty boss (can't remember if it's the first or second time...?), you'll find him inside the treehouse. At the start of DKC2's main boss fight, the cutscene of DK being beaten by K-Rool apparently had to be toned down from being too violent and gory, and cut from 8-10 seconds, to around 3 in the final game.
  4. Going back to the good old days when snow was 15 ft high and curly wurlys were 6 times as long, here's a couple of original, odd titles from Commodoreland: Red Heat (C64) Pretty crap kindof side scrolling beat-em-up, with infinite enemies... looks like all the development time & processing power was spent on the animation & big sprites and they forgot to make it into a game. Mindwalker (Amiga) I remember playing this loads, but never actually figuring out what was going on. Half of my brain found it scary & freaky, and the other half of my brain was constantly going WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF?
  5. Is it in a place where you need to have both characters? Usually they're at a place where, eg. you need Kiddy to throw Dixie up onto a ledge or something. What does that do? Never heard of it!
  6. P.N. 03 - why'd i forget that?! Not too sure about VJ tho - great fun as it was, lots of side view fighting games like that around just none that use the time effects, i can think off the top of my head...
  7. Which games, in the whole of great gaming history, did you find not only original & unique, but stand out ON THEIR OWN, without other games copying the idea (eg. as original as Crazy Taxi was, the idea was used in Simpsons Road Rage, GTA, etc, so doesn't qualify)? And why? I'll start the ball rolling: Gregory Horror Show (PS2) The first and only 100% stealth game, with no guns, no night vision, no moss arrows, but sneaking around to follow the guests, and after stealing their souls, actually avoiding them. The graphical style was totally unique too Luigi's Mansion (Cube) The whole "walking around with a vacuum cleaner" idea was original at the time, and has not been done again. Vib Ribbon (PS1) Rhythm action games are nothing new. But playing as a line drawn rabbit, along a path that maps itself to any audio CD you put in the drive - not been done before or again.
  8. The only polish i wish they'd do is give the cat some fur. If Starfox Adventures & Donkey Kong Jungle Beat could manage it, surely they can make their cat look less like voodoo reanimated papercraft? Apparently the story & general mood are going to be more serious this time round. Wonder if that's a good thing?
  9. Great article describing what is wrong with the games industry. Put on your hat of frustration and read away. http://www.gamesradar.com/f/2009s-best-wii-games-that-died-at-retail/a-2009121492359104082
  10. New footage, interview, info: http://uk.gamespot.com/wii/action/nomoreheroesdesperatestruggle/news.html?sid=6243410&mode=previews Mecha boss battle, cat weight loss minigames, and the framerate looks nice n smooth too
  11. Wow, that's really impressive pixel art in the top frame!
  12. Thanks for posting, every vid i see makes me more excited for this game. Think i'm gonna stop myself watching the videos now! I see you have a few Indy:SoK vids on your profile too, how did you find that? I'm thinking of getting it (despite the bad "wagglefest" reviews).
  13. Yep a mate of mine's using a WD passport on his and it seemed to work fine.
  14. Got this a few weeks ago. Yes it's a micromachines clone, but so well balanced it's 1 of the best top-down racers I've ever played! Great playability, deadsmooth 60fps, great music, and even online leaderboard (by typing a code into their website). All in all it's a VERY polished, well presented package which has obviously had a lot of love put into it. Highly recommended for anyone who still looks out for Dreamcast games
  15. Project lead from Climax spoke about bad dreams: When you're a kid and wake up from a scary dream, it wasn't because you were blowing the monster's head away with a shotgun - it was more likely because you were running & hiding for your life. That's the feeling they're pushing for in this game. I can't wait.
  16. Let's look at the power of consoles the last few generations. Wii < 360/PS3 PS2 < Cube < Xbox (ignoring DC here) PS1 < Saturn < N64 DS < PSP Now let's look at which sold the most. Oh wait, it's all the LEAST powerful ones. Coincidentally, they're the ones with the cheapest dev cycles, meaning the lowest risks for small companies, meaning the biggest shelf space (albeit filled 80% with shovelware).
  17. Coolness - had to actually read that post about 4 or 5 times before i understood what you meant
  18. I can speak for deBlob, and i kinda like the "whole level at once" feel, makes me put aside a couple of hours each time i want to play a stage. Would be nice if it remembered what you'd done on the level after you complete it tho. Madworld is agreed - should definitely let you save before boss fights, as should all games. The number of games i've stopped playing at the end when there are multiple final boss fights without saving in-between... Not a huge amount at all. http://www.vgchartz.com/games/game.php?id=22383&region=All
  19. Strange_Cookie: +10 points for Ghostbusters reference
  20. Followed this link from reading about BBC iPlayer for Wii, about furries: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/8355287.stm Heard about this before, interested to know what's sexually appealing about dressing like a sports mascot? Intriguing...
  21. Thanks for posting, Boomstick
  22. Looks fucking great Fast, smooth, unadulterated arcade racing GIMME GIMME GIMME - Need For Speed was never meant to be an RPG anyway.
  23. Worst Monster Munch ever, done for Red Nose day a few years back... ...vanilla ice cream flavour. *puke*
