A Tale of drowned puppies and the coming of Armageddon
Sheikah replied to Pancake's topic in Other Consoles
Then you'd probably choose a PS3. :p I'm much more inclined towards the games on PS3, and will usually always opt for a PS3 version of multiformat titles. There's a good number of advantages. -
Today (yesterday) I got a whopping awesome milkshake! It might make you feel sick, but this new milkshake place called Shake That by our uni has absolutely loads of stuff that it can make milshakes/smoothies with. The one I bought had nutella, kinder bueno, smarties, chocolate sauce, cream and some other stuff that I forgot, mixed with milk. It was divine.

Congratulations! It's good to know that you've been together a while; some people I know have proposed after a ridiculously short amount of time and let's just say oh noes. I'm sure you'll be very happy together!

I've had quite a good couple of days - yesterday I got an e-mail from UCL and I've been chosen as the student to be put forward for a potential PhD studentship, which is looking more likely now (and it's exactly in the area that I wanted). 16k a year (plus tuition paid) plus additional funds for travel and resources while getting a doctorate...yes please. Then today I got back an assignment that contributes to our masters and was marked 80%, which is a lot higher than anyone else I've spoken to so far. So yeah, a pretty good couple of days. Plus I've been gorging on Tesco finest Belgian waffles covered in nutella, which is pretty swell. And coming to know that my girlfriend is a pretty awesome cook, and likes making dinner.

It won't happen with drinking because drinking within sensible limits is not dangerous, and research actually suggests some alcohol is actually beneficial compared to drinking none at all. Similarly, kitchen knives will never be banned, as they have a practical use. Food will never be banned, because we need it to live, and even fatty food is fine if eaten only occasionally as part of a healthy diet. The problem with these examples is the possibility of misuse, since people can make these become dangerous to their health, or to the health of other. People need to be better educated in order to not misuse these. Smoking cannot be misused to damage your health - its primary and intended use causes damage itself, to both yourself and potentially others. There is no sensible limit to smoking; it is a nasty, foul habit that results in the second most common cause of death in men, behind cardiovascular-related diseases. And ironically, it plays a major part in the development of cardiovascular diseases, too. Smokers will only back their habit should they not fall ill; should they be affected they'll realise what a silly mistake they've been making. Don't be chumpy.

Lindt is absolutely gorgeous, I agree. I'm used to eating those round chocolate with creamy sort of centre, and occasionally those gold bunnies at Easter. Eating too many of the round ones can make you feel a bit ill, though.

Final Fantasy VIII: Remembering the Orphan
Sheikah replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Yeah, I would say VI was the beginning of the modern comprehensive FF-style titles we are used to. And the story was much improved (moved away from crystals for a bloody start). -
Dragon Quest VIII - Why is it So Good?
Sheikah replied to Grazza's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Isn't it quite rare to critical though? Sometimes I'd come across 2 MKS/LMS and one would, on occasion, stick around, and doing 4 damage could help. Or maybe I'm thinking of LMS. I found them better for levelling anyway. -
Final Fantasy VIII: Remembering the Orphan

I'm not seeing any plotholes there. Merely things that you wanted answers for but never got. I think it's funny how you question how a fat man could make a lot of money. Because all rich people in the world are all super thin. Just remember that Squall's change of heart was triggered by Rinoa's possibly fatal condition, which is no small thing and pretty damn believable. The game also had a hell of a lot of sidequests for its time, and GFs definitely count. Considering GFs often equalled new abilities, and different abilities, they were quite a big deal. Far too much FFX hate and little explanation as to why it all sucked. I think it's weird that you knocked one of the most fluid battle systems there has ever been to a FF game. There was no pile up of commands; you executed a command and they acted. It was grand. -

Final Fantasy VIII: Remembering the Orphan
Sheikah replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in General Gaming Discussion
I'm not sure why you're reiterating the points you've already been making again and again in this topic. What I find interesting is that you knock the ending for this game, despite stating that you haven't completed it. Credibility slash there. Sounds like a very bare bones review (especially given what you were ranting about before). It's mostly just FFVII fanboys who couldn't accept that a game had changed so much in one sequel (and for the better, IMO). It was a bold step to move towards realistic themes such as love...which some people just couldn't fathom. Common negative reasons given are usually "don't understand junctioning", "I don't get to level up like I have in every Final Fantasy previously" (yawn), "Villain only appears at the end of the game" (not true, Ultimecia, for all intents and purposes, was Edea, just with a different appearance), "Huge plot holes" (which people never elaborate on; besides the glaring unlikeliness of all coming from the same orphanage, no one ever bothers to point any others out, or how these completely ruin the game for them). And as for poor characters - Squall continuously tops polls alongside Cloud and Sephiroth. Naturally, other characters have less signficance, as with just about all other FF games. He's interesting and his character has a lot of progression, and I think people really took notice of that. Also, you can get the Ragnarok for Disc 4 provided you do some sidequesting, so you can then go to some places. 4/10 is just a ridiculous score, though. I can hardly take your review seriously. Even with your problems with the ending and the fact that junctioning required some mental exercise besides smacking monsters on the head continuously with a sword to cause character progression, I can't see how you'd place it below a 7. It's a remarkable game, with a tremendous amount of effort put into by (the then) Squaresoft. Judging fairly for the time it was released, it excelled in terms of visuals, sound, gameplay, longevity (particularly sidequests) and the depth of the script. You sound like a bit of a FF purist snob, who particularly likes one or two FF games and rates everything else 2-4/10 for massive impact (e.g. FFX, which was also a game I wouldn't place below 7/10). FFX was a good bit of fun, and overall a good game. Sure it was linear, and in many places a lot like a movie, but the was a hell of a lot of sidequesting and the characters were developed (aside from Kimahri). I think you need to stop looking for FFVII number two, or whatever previous FF game you hold in such high regard, and realise that many of these FF games are great in their own right, albeit different in many ways. -
I'll happily state that I'm outside of that niche, contrary to what you believe everyone on this forum is. We're not all social life-lacking people, you know. All I'm saying is that you often seem to misread people and stumble in these sorts of social situations. Your replies often seem really strange.

Happy Birthday Link! Feel extra happy, as I usually only go into the birthday topics for genuine smashers. And due to laziness. :p

Final Fantasy VIII: Remembering the Orphan
Sheikah replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Just wondering--is anyone excited at the almost inevitable release of this on the PSN Store? It's out on both the JP and US stores now, so it'll probably come here too. I have the actual discs, but it's nice that people who don't have the game anymore can get the chance to play this classic again. -
No wonder most people on here think you're a socially inept weirdo. Really... I'm still somewhat looking forward to this game, but there's a lot of decent stuff coming out early this year. I definitely like the sound of White Knight Chronicles, and Heavy Rain sounds interesting. Choices, choices.

You seriously lack social skills...take a joke; don't call everyone on them.

When I first started there was little draw to the game for me. It took me a while to like the characters and combat system, even though I had loved BG. The dialogue, however, is undoubtedly better than most RPGs. The number of different storyline paths you can take is amazing, and being a mature game means for more realistic dialogue. There must have been a hell of a lot of work that went into the script, as it really is epic. But then, this is something that only becomes apparent when you invest huge numbers of hours. It really won't leave you with anything unless you get hold of a copy and devote some good time to it.

I always justify purchasing the PS3 version (own both) by the fact it's usually always on one disc, I won't need to maintain a subscription to play online (should it have the option) and I may have a console to come back to should I wish to play it again in a few years time. That, and I prefer the PS3 controller, too. And it isn't really loud to have my PS3 on. Unless of course the PS3 version is massively worse, for whatever reason, but given this was initially intended for the PS3 I can't see that happening.

I don't think it's the kind of game that you could enjoy if you only played it briefly at an expo... As with these RPGs, they seem to be a time investment to get payoff sort of thing.
-
I'm enjoying Dragon Age at the moment because it's a throwback to the fun days of Baldur's Gate, but still has that modern feel to it. I love a good RPG where you can channel loads of hours into character development and exploration.
