    • I wonder it that's because Dragon Quest has a generally more light-hearted tone, so that when the darker, or more somber moments hit, it feels more impactful. It's probably why PMD has such better plots then mainline Pokémon, it follows a similar tone. Final Fantasy, since XII, funnily enough, have steadily distanced themselves away from the sillier aspects. I like XII's story, but it doesn't feel like Final Fantasy, and it only gets worse from there. That said, I quite liked XV's plot. Granted, I played the pocket edition, which cuts a lot of the bloat. Still a bit too serious, mind.
    • I honestly hated that scene. It really highlighted just how little dialogue there was from Sutherland in the game and how bland he was when he did speak up. Me and my mates joked that he said sod all because he was getting paid per word.
    • I think a big problem with the most recent entries has been with their narratives. Both XV and XVI done some pretty cool things gameplay wise but both of their stories were a mess, especially XV.  I don't think there's anything necessarily with sticking with your strengths. Look at the Dragon Quest series. It's pretty much followed the same formula all of these years and it seems to go from strength to strength. DQ XI is one of my favourite JRPGs of all time and I think it easily eclipses the more recent Final Fantasy games.  Yeah, I'm a big fan of the work they put in with the spin off games. Some of them are stupidly fun.
    • Still chipping away, and I have a lot of thoughts to share but little time to do today, so for now I'll just bring you up to speed on where I'm up to and get into all that next time: I just completed Episode 30.  This game is phenomenal. The part where it finally starts to feel like MGS, at least in terms of the plot, is some 20+ episodes into Chapter 1...and it's exactly what you want out of a Metal Gear Solid plot, Kojima through and through, I was smiling from ear to ear when I clocked onto where it was trying to go. I'll continue to see how it plays out, of course, but if nothing else this is the best dynamic stealth gameplay I've experienced and that's got to count for something; even with this being a Peace Walker sequel rather than a true fifth MGS entry proper, I'm totally along for the ride
    • What's annoying about the higher prices is that I guarantee something like Mario Kart will have DLC or some kind of season pass somewhere down the line. So what went from a £40 + extras has now gone to a £70 + extras. Shawn Layden (ex PlayStation boss) gave an interview the other day and this issue was discussed. Ultimately, Nintendo have people by the short and curlies because if you want to play the latest Nintendo made games, then you have no choice but to pay the higher price. Nintendo know this and they can afford to do it. Had the Switch been a failure then I don't think they would be pulling this move but, like every gaming company after a successful generation, arrogance sets in.  Despite the high prices, I imagine it will do stupidly well, just as the Switch has. Nintendo pretty much have the Japanese locked down at this point and most gaming outlets/sites and stupidly excited for it. Like you, the price of software has put me off the thing but also the software that the console is launching with. It's a VERY weak line up, with no big Nintendo single player game being ready at launch. I'm still baffled why the line up is so poor. Considering how long the original Switch has been going they should have had an amazing software schedule going. As it stands, it's relying heavily on upgrades and old 3rd party games.
