The Google search result also states it a bit more plainly:

Yeah I saw a screenshot of a tweet (or maybe bluesky post) with the price listed but with I checked it was TBC but I guess the installment thing would be an oversight.

Yeah, that makes sense.

I'm guessing they've updated it somewhere in the background with the price ahead of tomorrow (placeholder or not), which is only showing in a Google search, and that installments plan has just been automatically generated off the back of that same figure.

Nice find either way! I'm honestly more surprised we didn't get slammed with April Fool's versions of this cropping up all day

I'm expecting two SKU's, one at £349 or maybe even £399, and one with more storage and maybe Mario Kart pre-installed for £500.

The Switch launched at £279 and that was a fairly cheap chipset which we know Nintendo got a great deal on. Better hardware, more storage, inflation etc...

So you think that Simply Games is adding a premium to the instalment plan? From a quick Google they seem to offer credit through Paypal Pay in 3, an option which doesn't usually add any extra charges to your total so I wonder if Simply Games is offering a bundle or something. But it could be accurate, given inflation and all the mad shit going on in the US.

£500 is surprisingly high though, I never expected Nintendo to make it that expensive so I hope it will be cheaper.

On their site they say up to £2000 can be on interest free credit so presumably no premium under that price.

They may have put £500 simply because if they have to go lower customers will be happy, but if the price was higher they'd lose out because customers would still be entitled to that price so better to guess high.

PayPals pay in 3 is between PayPal and the buyer, it's transparent to the retailer so they don't know you paid in 3. They don't get charged any fee or anything. The retailer gets the full amount immediately. PayPal will get any interest fees, there's no reason for Simply Games to charge more for pay in 3.

Probably a placeholder price in the high end. I don't know about British rules but in Denmark, if you order something for a certain price, even if the price goes up before the product is available, you get it at the price you ordered it for - but if it goes down, you get it for the cheaper price. Thus, shops set the price tag high enough to guarantee that they do not lose money on the product.

There are ongoing tests to verify the compatibility of original Switch games on the Switch 2 on this page https://www.nintendo.com/us/gaming-systems/switch-2/transfer-guide/compatible-games/

There are pdf lists of games that currently have issues too and to be honest there aren't too many games on there - I'm sure it'll be the same sort of thing as PS4 to PS5 where only a handful of games won't work in the end and it'll likely be limited to stuff like Labo VR that just straight up won't work (although it seems like you'll be able to play stuff like Ring Fit and the other Labo games if you connect original joy con wirelessly)

Select Switch 1 games will get a free update instead of a "Switch 2 Edition".

https://www.nintendo.com/en-ca/gaming-systems/switch-2/transfer-guide/games-with-free-updates/

That's good news, hopefully there will be more than that too. I'm sure some third parties will offer free upgrades too, but I'm really curious to see how much these upgrade vouchers are going to cost - £10 would be pretty reasonable but given the cost of some of the software makes me think they'll be charging more

Some interesting notes

- Switch 1 power cable can be used to charge Switch 2, just not power it in TV mode.

- You can use a standard microSD in a Switch 2 to view screenshots on video taken on a Switch 1. I wonder why you can't run Switch 1 games from one, it seems strange to just add support for screenshots.

Going by the Japanese pricing. It seems like games that don't have new content (BotW, TotK) will be around 10 quid, and games with extra content (Mario Party, Kirby & the Forgotten Land) will be around £20.

Info on Game-Key Cards and a summary of Switch 2 Edition features, as well as a look at Switch 2 UI (...it looks the same):

Z-A being the laziest effort of the Switch 2 Editions make sense.

It does look weirdly ugly, I wonder if this is a subtle way to discourage people from buying physical

Honestly, that + the prices vs digital + the silly "Switch 2 Edition" branding being inconsistent (and being a step down in terms of branding from DX versions on OG Switch?), just...yeah, it feels that way to me as someone who likes to buy physical

:(

Just noticed that some upgrade packs come bundled with your NSO Expansion Pack subscription including Metroid Prime 4, BOTW & TOTK

There really is a tsunami of information that Nintendo have just dumped online - learning new things every few minutes

Yep (too many places to put it so I just put it in the NSO thread lol)

Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom - Switch 2 Edition upgrades will be available at no additional cost to NSO + Expansion Pack members.

Only wording I'm seeing so far is about BOTW and TOTK getting their upgrade packs included, unless I'm missing something - the other games pictured seem to have been included pretty confusingly!

I imagine that this is the same kind of deal as what they did with the MK8 BCP DLC, you get it for free as long as you’re subscribed to the NSO Expansion Pass.

They’ll probably do similar offers throughout the Switch 2’s life with other upgrade packs.

Oh!!!

Very important tidbit about how the Game Share feature works on Switch 2 from the Ask The Developer interview…

https://www.nintendo.com/us/whatsnew/ask-the-developer-vol-16-nintendo-switch-2-part-3/

Quote

Having to wait tens of minutes to play a game together isn't very practical.

Kawamoto: So, we thought that by taking advantage of the Switch 2 system's processing power and using the same streaming technology that Wii U uses to send images from the console to the handheld Wii U GamePad (21), we could share the gameplay instantly without having to take time to transfer the software. I thought it’d be nice if players could share games instantly and play together competitively or cooperatively. This was another feature I asked Sasaki-san to look into. Achieving it must have been a nightmare. (Laughs)

Game Share uses the same video streaming tech as what the Wii U Gamepad used! Rather than copy the actual game over, the host Switch 2 broadcasts a video stream over WiFi.  So that’s where the rumour came from!

That also means that it should indeed be possible for Switch 2 games to use another Switch 1 or 2 as a second screen, Wii U Gamepad style! :D

Edit: From the same interview…

Quote

Kawamoto: It wasn’t an easy thing to do. The quality of the game image is reduced when it's transferred using streaming technology, so the team tried to find a way to maintain the quality as much as possible through trial and error. Also, with GameShare, there are games where it’s better if players aren’t shown the same screen, so we’ve created a feature that enables each person to see a different screen even if they're playing together with just one copy of the game. For example, when playing card games and mahjong in Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics, each player is shown a different screen because it wouldn't work if everyone was shown the same screen. So, with GameShare, you can play cards or mahjong with players locally or those connected online via GameChat right away

51 Worldwide Classics does indeed work like a Wii U game on Switch 2! Broadcasting multiple viewpoints to different players!! Second Screen gaming is back!! :D
