Aneres11 Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Supposed to be completing on Friday to move in to our new house. Our solicitor called me on Thursday last week and said "it says here you're using help to buy, but you can't be because youre not first time buyers...?". I said, erm we are using help to buy as we're buying a new build, so we get the government help. He was like oh. Oh I didn't know that. What exactly are we paying him for? So now it's a mad rush this week to try and get the documents and monies through for Friday. It's looking very unlikely now unfortunately so will probably be the week after. My BF can't have any time off next week at all from work so means I'll be moving everything myself if that's the case. His incompetence has been pretty alarming.
Serebii Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 (edited) Had the value and survey done. My friend was right and they are like full obdy scans and you see every flaw with the house and panic sets in. However, the mortgage people didn't inform the surveyor that it was underpinned so they have to send him in again -_- Just when I thought everything would go smoothly. The sellers want to finalise around end of October, but if this doesn't happen fast... Edited October 1, 2017 by Serebii

Aneres11 Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 Exchanged contracts yesterday and we move in on Friday! TV unit, dining table, and new kitchen stuff bought. Rung sky to sort my internet switch over, they can't provide anything at the new house. Not set up. So they've let me cancel my contract with them for no charge with over a year left! So now I've gone back to BT which I'm glad about as their broadband is much better than Sky's. Just a pain to sort out. The line isn't connected yet so I need to wait til the 24th for an engineer to come and do that before I can even consider a broadband package. Then wait for that to be sorted once I order. My neighbour to be has been in since start of September, they still don't have internet and the couple across the road have been in since June with no internet either. When I called BT, I was told I needed to pay for the activation (£65) which is normal, and pay monthly line rental of £18.99. Once I get my line active I can then add broadband and TV if needed and the line rental should be eaten up in that monthly cost. I don't think the two living on the estate have even gone through that with them so maybe it'll work out. Stressing already. The move isn't stressful it's the broadband! 1
Raining_again Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 I spent about 3 months solid complaining about how shit awful both mine and my vendors solicitor were lol They are fucking phone monkeys that check documents, and BARELY follow protocol correctly.... and they want thousands for it n all. Swear i'm in the wrong career (don't get me wrong there are gooduns out there but they are few n far between) 2
Serebii Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 Waiting to hear back from the mortgage people as everything is contingent on them now. I want to get this sorted and be in at the end of the month, which is the seller's goal.

Because everyone I've encountered sucks as both. 1
Jimbob Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 Starting to look at some properties with Sophie. Basically, we can get a mortgage based on what i have saved up (and what my parents are giving me towards it). However, Sophie hasn't got anything near what i have and i'd like her to at least have something to put towards a deposit. Her folk have offered to get the appliances we would need (washing machine, fridge/freezer, tumble dryer etc) instead, so that's something at least.

By the time my wife and I got around to buying a house, we'd been together for long it was hard to work out who'd contributed what. On reflection though, we probably did contribute around half of their deposit each, so it worked out well.

I'm in a similar position to you (although not going to look for a few months). I can afford the deposit by myself so we're thinking of her paying what she can, me making up with difference but putting it as a loan so she pays me back for her half (all contracted and shit). If moving in will allow her to save some every month, could you not do something similar? Set up a payment plan so she pays you £x00 each month until it's paid off (you could also charge her interest if you want, but I wouldn't advise it).
Serebii Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 Some stuff with my accountant is holding it up. A bit concerned that all this faff will make the sellers reconsider

A bit concerned that all this faff will make the sellers reconsider Most people will hang on because they incur costs with their own solicitors too, even if it falls through. So unless the housing marker suddenly has skyrocketed to justify that loss (i doubt it has) they will hang on in. Just keep calm and keep harassing all involved to keep the process moving! Mine waited 6 months and we reckon i gained at least 5 thousand in value in that time lol
Serebii Posted October 13, 2017 Posted October 13, 2017 Nationwide continually holding it up, asking me for more and more details even though I've provided them already.
Shorty Posted October 13, 2017 Author Posted October 13, 2017 If I understand rightly you've been self employed through your site for a long time right? It's much more difficult to convince a bank of your financial situation when you don't just have a basic paycheck. Even people who own companies can have problems if they don't pay themselves a wage normally. Freelancers can have a nightmare. 1

It will just make the process so much easier for everyone. Most people seem to recommend this.
Serebii Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 Seems my mortgage consultant didn't actually file the SA302s and may not actually have them anymore so I need to get them off my accountant again and send them in. This is fucking ridiculous. Don't go with Nationwide.

Raining_again Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 I had absolutely no problem with nationwide, i think like many banks / b.societies it just depends on the branch. Mine couldn't help me enough! 1

Eenuh Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 I think our problem was probably that we were going through an independent broker rather than a branch, so he probably just contacted the main office. And clearly their online/computer forms couldn't handle our info... so he went with a small building society where he said it would be easier to submit our details (probably through paper forms or something). I did actually want to go with Nationwide though, and maybe we'll look at them once it's time to remortgage. Hopefully it will be less hassle then now that Jim's name is changed.
EEVILMURRAY Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 We have our mortgage through Nationwide, which we did use a broker for. We're actually coming towards the end of our two year contract naow... perchance to start shopping around before putting the squeeze on them to give us a better, or same deals.
Serebii Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 Finally got the documents and sent them in. 15th time is a charm, right?
Raining_again Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 I went into the branch directly, wanted to deal with NW as I have my bank with them, makes it a lot easier, less to prove etc. And my advisor was so helpful when I was looking at an Orlit house (which I ended up not buying)
