Pokémon Go! (Android/iOS)

I wanted to post my experiences of playing this game last night but I got so caught up in the game. This is possibly one of the most monumental games I have ever played.

A friend and I played all day yesterday (from 10am to 8pm) and I have met so many people through playing this game that it's crazy. At one stage, we were at a shopping park and there was easily about 10 people walking around and talking to each other and getting excited with which Pokemon is where. We had strangers come up to us and had a good conversation and we eventually started talking to other people. My friend is new to the area as well and wanted to find ways of socialising and he actually said he's never spoken to such a volume of people in his life, haha.

We both went into Primark because there was a Meowth there and I found him...ON A HARRY POTTER MUG where I also found a bunch of Hogwarts stuff like bedding and whatnot. Coincidence? I think not! It was destiny for Meowth to be caught by me! :hehe:

We were in the park catching Weedles and Pidgeys mostly but it was sweet to see an old couple attempting to play it. I say 'attempt' because the old bloke couldn't throw the Pokeballs at the Pokemon. My friend and I smiled but they said "We started playing it with our granddaughter but then we started to do it and enjoy it. My daughter set up the internet and satnav for us and we were bored" haha. They are my goal in life.

We also saw a bunch of people near Pokestops and they told us where there were the most and places where there were hard-to-get Pokemon. There were people in my gym running on treadmills to try and hatch their eggs (I still question if that works, could someone answer this before tomorrow morning because I know what I'll be doing at the gym tomorrow if it's possible).

This game is brilliant. It's genius! It's also made me walk so many steps on my Fitbit as well. I'm also happy because one of my friends had told me that her autistic nephew started playing it and it's helped him socialise and cope with being around people, which is so amazing.

I also love the fact that everybody I know with a smartphone has downloaded it. I've been telling everybody for years that Pokemon is cool, now they believe me! haha.

Oh and the staff in Poundland was playing it as well, which was hilarious. My friend and I were getting a cable to buy one of them portable batteries for our phones. Found them and we were just walking around when we saw a couple of staff on their phones (along with a few customers as well). We turned the corner and saw the actual manager playing it as well. It was really blatant too because she had the sound effects on. She told us where to find different types, that she put out a lure on the shopping centre sign and stuff. Mental.

I finally caught Jynx today! There's a Squirtle near me and I can't find it!!! Frustrating as Hell!

So do you both (all) 'see' the same Pokémon in the same place, or is it phone specific?

If so is it first come first caught?

We both see exactly the same Pokemon in exactly the same spot. One might pop up before the other although my phone (Android) saw it first before my mate's (Apple).

It doesn't matter if either one catches the Pokemon, you'll both be able to get the same one.

I JUST CAUGHT A FUCKING SQUIRTLE!

Oh and to add to the Meowth part of my post, yes, I did buy the mug and it's beautiful!

Am I right in thinking there's a difference between wild Pokemon that just appear out of nowhere and the ones you actually have to look for? The latter being the more rare/powerful ones, is that right?

Also, I seem to have this weird bug, no matter where I go, all of my Nearby Pokemon are three footprints away. It's been like that all day, regardless how many times I restart.

Yeah, nearby is bugged at the moment

So my short experience yesterday. I walked around the neighborhood passing a number of stops to get some more Pokéballs. I saw a couple of kids on bikes who were taking over every gym in the area with their >CP800 'mon, very frustrating haha. Caught a Psyduck and some Magikarp near a little creek, and ran into some foreign students who were also playing. They chitchatted with me for a bit and another guy also joined, insane how this game brings people together.

I continued to the city center where there are a lot of stops, so stocking up some serious items. I was going to meet my gf and some friends in a bar, but had to take a small detour since I saw a Pokéstop with a lure on the market place. Sat there for some minutes catching mostly Caterpies and then continued to get a well deserved beer!

Yes, the game is rather simple and plain but maybe that is why it allures to the masses. I hope that The Pokémon Company can keep up the momentum with some added features in the future.

Can somebody tell me how Nearby works? Like the page shuffles around so is the Pokémon on the top line on the left the closest one?

It's currently bugged out. It's meant to go down by footprints when you're near

Oh. I see the Nearby page shuffle too. So if two Pokemon (say Caterpie is top left and Pikachu is top middle) and both have one footprint, would the Caterpie be closer?

Damn, at least I know now, me and my friends came across a Staryu that was 3 steps away wherever we walked, we thought maybe it just kept moving away from us somehow

My enjoyment of the game is being hampered by the glitches and crashing. In all my years of a gamer I can't think of any game that I've played that had this many issues. Freezing on loading screen, crashing on the pokeball section, game freezing, steps now not working...it is a bit of a mess.

A big part of me is surprised that the game was launched in this state. Nintendo have a very good reputation of having games that are well polished. Yeah, this isn't directly a Nintendo game but their name gets attached to their products, whether they develop them in house or not. You think Pokemon, you think Nintendo.

I'm hoping that the game does get smoothed out ASAP, so that I can enjoy it more.

Yep, servers are dead. Unable to authenticate errors.

Feel sorry for all the inevitable weekend meetup groups that won't be able to play on this lovely sunny day.

I also feel sorry for myself, unable to play on my own in my stuffy flat.

Anyone else having problems logging on with a Trainer Club account? I know there were some problems before but I thought they had been fixed....

I am 100% certain I've typed both the username and password correctly, but it says it's incorrect and after a couple of more tries to be sure (including trying to log in on pokemon.com as well to make sure it wasn't just a problem with the app) I'm locked out for 15 minutes. Great...

Being locked out from my account on pokemon.com is pretty bad as well considering I need to get on there to get a TCG tournament sanctioned soon. :/

(Hopefully it's just because of the server issues, but it's a bit disconcerting when it says my password or username were incorrect instead of just giving me an error message...)

Pffft, typical Nintendo :p

To be very fair, this is doing a bit more than 'voice chat' - its actually making people get together - I say its even more effective than something like Tinder. Yesterday me and my gf went out and about walking past people sending out positive gestures such as "gotta catch em all"... I don't really like random people but this has been making me warm to people more - Regardless of the bugs etc, this is still just purely amazing in what its doing.
