Nintendo Switch - Happy Switchmas Everyone!

Of course they'd say codenamed NX since it's not the actual name.

Plus they announced this as a preview trailer, hence why it's 3 minutes

I know. I'm just reiterating from the official press release to stop people getting too carried away.

Now about those 3 peripherals... ;)

So after more snide comments, it turns out she was absolutely right. I'm SHOCKED!!!!! Seriously, no one is THAT confident and ballssy if they don't know

So...were you in this thread the other week at all :p?

I was in the know :(

Hey now, bob didn't mention any names! Besides which you only help illustrate the point - Emily too is supposedly even more in the know than yourself(albeit apparently far more accurate too) - that's exactly the point. Everyone claims to be right and confident and then they're wrong! It heavily discredits said people for the future. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Probably yeah. I'd still expect some supplementary details on the main site though. We're supposed to be getting the reveal of Beyond Good and Evil 2 for NX as an exclusive at the same time as the NX reveal itself and I'm pretty sure that won't fit into the 3 minute slot...

Ok that could be part of a later video, but the rumour/leak did say the NX "reveal", which would rightfully be today, so...

I'm hoping that as someone suggested earlier this mini-reveal will allow 3rd parties to open up and talk. I think having the news come from more sources from just Ninty and especially 3rd parties will be good for some of the NX's image. Just hope there's more than Ubisoft on board!

Still saying codenamed and describe it as "preliminary announcement".

I wonder if a series of trailers/Directs/presentations over the next five months would be a smart way of doing things in this day and age of social media. It would keep the conversation going constantly with new bits of info revealed every month until release, and have people talking about it much more than say the usual big blow-out with everything on the table then not much else after that till release. Just a suggestion really...

Most of the ones listed are third party, but yeah I concede :p

Still, after saying new system twice and new console once, any media outlet with any sort of integrity/skill shouldn't have made that mistake

You're British, you should have known full well that the chances of that happening were zero.

He also said it was an "emphatic absolute" that the console would be right for everyone and it would be utopian so...

He said it was a new console once. Arguably the phrase "this is the new controller for Wii [pause] U" didn't help. There was a sufficient gap for it to sound like the controller was called "U" and it was "the new controller for Wii".

The rest of the video...

Switch from TV to the New Controller

Draw on the New Controller

Play only on the New Controller

Use Motion to Control with the New Controller

Get New Views with the New Controller

Stay Fit with the New Controller

Take Aim with the New Controller

Play Across the New Controller to Your TV

Make Video Calls with the New Controller

Browse with the New Controller

It also doesn't help the console itself is seen from a distance and looks like the Wii anyway and the majority of the games they showed didn't seem particularly more technically impressive than Wii games (they showed a bloody game of Draughts come on)!

But we'll see if they've learnt.

They should be fine as long as they avoid the pitfalls of the wii u reveal. That was 5 mins and a total disaster.

I've actually just re-watched that reveal - am I right in thinking that about less than half of what we saw in that video actually ended up being a WiiU reality? Like the actual things shown; I don't recognise much of it!

If I'm actually right and not just terribly mistaken - it takes me to wondering how much a 3 min reveal today might hold relevance to a final product in 6 months time!

Yeah, remember the concept of using two Gamepads on one console?

Whatever happened to that?

It would be good to do that sure, but I'd say you need a big information blow-out pretty early on and elaborate on that kind of information as time goes by. Revealing the look of the console today, the release date next month, the technical specs the month after etc etc would be frustrating.

It's a busy time of year and there's a lot of information to come across, not all press are specialist and thus their editorial approach is going to be different and Nintendo didn't make it clear. Saying it twice while saying "New Controller" a dozen times means the main message is "new controller" not "new console".

It ran away with the European Nintendo TVii.

Things I've done between the NX being announced and the NX being shown:

  • Quit my job
  • Got a new job
  • Released a video game
  • Begun working on various projects
  • Been to Greece three times, Italy, France and Portugal

What about you? :heh:

Critical time for Nintendo this now. Let's see if they can make their console appeal to something that a mass public who is quick to jump down their throats can get on board with.

Willing to believe the much rumoured console-handheld hybrid is true, just be curious to see how they've gone about it.

I've just thrown up.. but its not from excitement (even though I am excited :heh:) I just genuinely feel more ill than I ever have in my life :hmm:

I really hope it doesn't tarnish my thoughts on this special day!

I'll have the IV ready just in case they announce a mobile phone and all of their games from now on are going to be freemium titles.
