liger05 Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 (edited) Too soon to criticise the network fully as Nintendo haven't said anything so I don't see his anyone can have an finalized opinion just yet. The one game a month is despicable. I find it amazing Nintendo can honestly think that offers value regardless of how much they are charging. It's a very bizarre decision and really don't know how that idea become something that they thought would be good. The accessories I find are expensive but I really don't think these the joy cons in particular are cheap to make. There is too much tech in there so the margins Nintendo have is probably not that big. I saw on Gaf someone talking about the dock and searching online for a USB-C docks that have power and HDMI for laptops its similar price and more. The whole Mario looks like sonic is so stupid.. Really don't know why a city means sonic. Edited January 16, 2017 by liger05
Rummy Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 I saw a post on Reddit that suggested that the high prices of UK stuff was trying to future proof things against the falling pound once we leave the EU. Could be the case? Hey! I already suggested that ages back! Still the arguments have since been made re: conversions across all the territories - are they expecting those economies to all be negatively affected just by us and the GBP that much?
Dcubed Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 (edited) I think Jim is jumping the gun and forcing things a bit here, I completely accept being disappointed in their vagueness about the online service and virtual console, but I think his fury about the online service is completely misplaced at the moment because we simply don't know enough to think positively or negatively about it. He makes valid points about the accessories being overpriced and the lack of launch games, but the majority of the episode is just Jim on auto-pilot based on conjecture. I'm trying to remain impartial and hear his points but he does seem particularly annoying in this episode. That's kind of the point he's making here. They're being really vague about it and he doesn't see why he should give them the benefit of the doubt (and he doesn't like what they've shown so far about it). They really shouldn't be keeping secrets about the console at this point. The whole Mario looks like sonic is so stupid.. Really don't know why a city means sonic. That's why. Pestneb Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 I'm pretty sure the Switch won't have a browser. Can't remember where I heard / read it but it's apparently not packing one. That's a shame.... even the 3ds browser can be useful at times (though it works with very little these days) but I'd have thought after the 3ds and wii U it was quite likely I hope you are wrong on that though!
Ike Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Youtubers like Shokio make 30 min videos of sheer disgust at Nintendo and its Switch unveiling but then at the very end states he will be day oneing it though...LMAO Paid for thanks to the revenue made by their clickbait videos no doubt. :p

Nicktendo Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 If it doesn't have one, it's probably for security, some of the exploits use the internet browser as the entry point. That's essentially what I've heard as the reasoning to why there isn't one.
killthenet Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 (edited) I do understand the frustration with Nintendo's vagueness surrounding the Switch's online, but I prefer to be optimistic about these things until we here more either way. By charging for online they have put themselves into a position where they absolutely have to prove the value in a paid service. And his criticism of Mario for looking like Sonic is completely unfounded because Nintendo have never shown the complete disrespect for their mascot that Sega have continually shown to Sonic. Ashley Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Well the Switch stream didn't go well for everyone it seems. [tweet]820663761421770752[/tweet]
Falcon_BlizZACK Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 He compared the size of the Switch with the 3DS @ 01.42.
dazzybee Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 I was listening to rfn podcast and they had a developer on. They were incredibly positive about the switch and development. But they also mentioned about the dock, and that it isn't easy for someone else to make so no easy solution because the dock is processing the imaging s dad ding it to the TV.
Kav Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Jimquisition on the Switch (Full gore 18+ mode: on). Yep. Nailed it.
liger05 Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 He compared the size of the Switch with the 3DS @ 01.42. The screen looks banging.
Hero-of-Time Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 That's kind of the point he's making here. They're being really vague about it and he doesn't see why he should give them the benefit of the doubt (and he doesn't like what they've shown so far about it). They really shouldn't be keeping secrets about the console at this point. Exactly. Now isn't the time for Nintendo to be holding back. They need to get people on board and clear up just what is going on. The console launches in less than two months yet here we are still trying to figure out what we are getting for our money. In a sense the big reveal of the Switch is no different to the Wii U. Lack of communication, mixed messaging and general confusion from the consumer is what happened back then and it's happening again. It's not just the online stuff either. Certain games that are launching in the Spring have vague dates instead of something solid. You can't tell me that at this stage of the game they don't know when something like ARMS is launching. It's baffling. @Ashley mentioned in his article that if Nintendo plan on talking more before the launch then they should just come out and tell us. Show us the plan/road map and give us dates for when we can expect these updates. As it is we are left hoping that someone will come out and just clarify just what the hell is happening. In terms of Jim giving Nintendo the benefit of the doubt, why should he? Nintendo have shown time and time again that they just don't get what makes a good online setup. Yes, this could be the attempt where they get it right but history has shown us not bet on them when it comes to stuff like that, especially when you have Reggie saying that Nintendo want to put their own spin on things, regardless if those things are perfectly fine the way they are. I'm honestly trying my best not to be negative but it's hard not to when Nintendo keep making frustrating decisions that could easily be avoided. I want to be excited. From what I've seen the actually console looks to be a very nice bit of kit and the likes of Zelda and ARMS do interest me. Everything else though has been a bit of a balls up, from things like pricing and penny pinching, to miscommunication and general lack of info.
Falcon_BlizZACK Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 The screen looks banging. Yeah nice and crisp.
Sheikah Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 The whole Mario looks like sonic is so stupid.. Really don't know why a city means sonic. Because it just does. That's the first thing I thought...and I've seen others say it too. Something about the low detail style of the buildings.
Falcon_BlizZACK Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 For me, the launch window is decent enough. Owing to ditching the Wii U, I've missed out on the likes of Mario Kart and Splatoon - as I've imagined a good many have also - so looking forward to getting in their respective online modes until the the real bombs drop in autumn/winter.
Ronnie Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Wow, people are still talking about Mario supposedly copying Sega? Who cares if it looks like a particular Sonic game? If EAD Tokyo's track record is any indication, Mario will do it 100x better than anything Sega managed.
tapedeck Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 I think people are just saying that based on what we've seen of the UI, unless it has been confirmed and I've missed it. If it doesn't have one, it's probably for security, some of the exploits use the internet browser as the entry point. It'll probably have one in some capacity as it'll need one to open the eShop. This is why we can't have nice things. :-/ Removing the browser access is fine. They'll just give you a smartphone app to download for it. And the SD Card slot is a pirate's entry point surely... I hope it has the brilliant browser from WiiU with some added security. Nintendo need people to keep on picking this thing up when they have it. Including a browser/Netflix apps etc. is a quick, easy way to do this.

If EAD Tokyo's track record is any indication, Mario will do it 100x better than anything Sega managed. Are people actually suggesting copying? I've always just assumed it was kind of lighthearted joking at the similarities. Although I've not seen the Jim Sterling video.

Was surprised porn sites weren't blocked on the Wii U - was actually the most unsuspected device for it. :awesome:
liger05 Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 I think the non browser thing came out weeks ago. I wouldn't be surprised. Not having things like Netflix or BBC I player would be silly. They need to improve the Netflix app though. The wii u one was shocking!!!

I had a quick look on google and everything I found was speculation, generally linked to the assumption many made (myself included) that the switch wouldn't have a touch screen as it would be inaccessible in docked mode.
