Well, 2013 is coming to an end, which only means one thing... time to discuss what games we liked the most this year! There's a massive pile of stellar releases this year, so there's sure to be various opinions round here.

I'm doing a top 10 list for my YouTube channel, uploading a video each day for each game, discussing in detail why I like each title. As it's related, here's my pick for number 10:

Despite being close to buying several 2013 games, the only ones I did were Thomas was Alone and Civilization V: Brave New World (don't own it yet, but I did play it, plus I own the previous expansion, which I played considerably).

Out of those two, Civ V takes it. It's such a versatile game, I just love the amount of options you get for building your empire.

The Last of Us and Tearaway will forever remain in my memory. You probably couldn't pick two games that were so different from each other and they were both stunning. Tearaway was absolutely surprising, had no idea it would be close to as brilliant as it was.

AC IV gets a mention but it's another iteration of a worn out franchise. As good as it is, I have franchise fatigue. Should have just been a pirate game.

I still have a few games I need to play (Tearaway, LEGO Marvel, Remember Me, MGR:R, DmC, A Link to the Past, Ratchet & Clank and others), but so far:

  • 1 The Last of Us
  • 2 Tomb Raider
  • 3 Plkmin 3
  • 4 BioShock Infinite
  • 5 The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD
  • 6 Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag
  • 7 Beyond: Two Souls
  • 8 Saints Row IV
  • 9 Animal Crossing: New Leaf
  • 10 Sonic Lost World

Honorable mentions: Lego City Undercover, Star Trek, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, Thomas Was Alone, GTAV, Cloudberry Kingdom

I don't think I've played a single 2013 game this year! :p

Hopefully I might play Rain, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, and maybe get something like Lego Marvel before the end of the year.

Oh yeah I have some 2013 games waiting on Plus too, maybe one or two of those.

If you have an alright PC may I suggest SteamWorld dig? It's cheap, short and bloody fantastic.

Some great games here. I didn't play enough of Saints Row IV to get decent impressions on it, and missed out on Sonic: Lost World.

Speaking of The Last of Us, guess what my 9th favourite is?

P4G is technically a 2013 game since it hit Europe in 2013, even though I bought a US copy and it's a remake of a game from 2008... that would certainly be my most enjoyed game this year. Reintroduced me to the JRPG world after a very, very long hiatus.

After that my favourite game would be Bioshock Infinite. I understand people's gripes about the combat, or maybe how some people were disappointed compared to what was seen in early trailers/footage. However I didn't watch any trailers, and I got to grips with what the combat required very quickly. In fact, a certain vault fight on the hardest difficulty aside, I eventually found it a really dynamic and fun combat style.

But none of that really matters, because the best bit by miles was that it took a typically annoying gameplay element, the Escort Mission, and made it amazing. Elizabeth was just brilliant, and brought together an amazing looking world and a fantastic story. It was way more than the "Bioshock in the sky" that I was expecting when it was announced, loved it from start to finish.

The Last of Us and Tomb Raider were absolutely amazing, too. Zelda: A Link Between Worlds will probably be on my list if I can fit it in before the year's end.

Haven't really played that many games from this year, since I've mostly been hunting down hidden gems and whatnot for the GameCube, DS and Wii.

The games that I did play that came out in 2013 are:

Luigi's Mansion 2

Fire Emblem: Awakening

Mutant Mudds

Animal Crossing: New Leaf

GTAV

Yeah, I guess that's about it.

Still going through GTAV and Fire Emblem: Awakening (and of course, Animal Crossing) and I'd have to say that Fire Emblem: Awakening is my game of the year.

I've only reached about mission 8 or so and I am playing it on hard so I've lost great characters countless of times which meant resetting the game. I had put it on hold in favour of some other games, but I'm itching to get right back into it and nailing a mission after restarting it 3 times

It's bloody difficult when reinforcements arrive at a place where you didn't expect and they have more movement than you so you can't get away...

Time to MOVE AS ONE!

Fifa 13 - I know, technically a 2012 game, but I played this so much with a mate and online.

Persona 4 - Sorry @Sheikah @Happenstance @Shorty ... I haven't finished it, not even close. But I will someday.

What makes it my one of my favourite games of 2013? It distracted me from a lot of shit that was going on during a couple of months last year. So yeah, it kind of has a special place in my heart and I will/have to finish it.

Awesomenauts - another "actually 2012" game. Got released in August 2012. Clocked in 279 hours so far, and there will be more. Probably got 150 hours of playtime in 2013.

It's a 2D MOBA. Great game, if you have the right teammates and opponents (i.e. competent ones).

I really liked Gone Home, The Stanley Parable, Brothers, Guacamelee and Antichamber.

I liked The Last Of Us and GTA V, too.

Still haven't played lots of likely gems that came out this year because they're out for Nintendo platforms, which means it takes a while until I'll buy them as they take longer to drop in price, for some reason.
