Dcubed Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Just tried it out at the MCM Expo... It's even worse than I had feared! Not only does it look like garbage, but it RUNS like garbage too! Battles run at 30FPS, while the out of battle scenes run at 60FPS. But not only that, both different sets of scenes also seem to have a really nasty judder with the animations (almost like telecene judder). It's like all the animation key framing is completely fucked! And if that wasn't bad enough, there seems to be a ton of input lag too! (I tried going back to the XMB to see if it was an issue with the TV itself and nope, the game itself had far more input lag than the XMB). So yeah, the port is hot steaming garbage (they've obviously just ported over the PS2 version and not fixed the framerate, while simultaneously fucking up the visuals and performance even more). Buy ONLY if you are desperate to experience the PS2 version's exclusive content in English - otherwise stick with the GCN original... Although mind you, TOS 2 seems to be a good port with no visual problems and a proper 60FPS framerate...

Hero-of-Time Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Limited Collector's Edition... ShopTo - £69.95 Less than 10,000 in Europe Day 1 purchase. Cheers for the heads up. That's one sexy boxset. *clicks preorder*
Ike Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 I kinda want the novel, but not sure if I want it enough to get the stuff as well. Hmm.
S.C.G Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 I kinda want the novel, but not sure if I want it enough to get the stuff as well. Hmm. Might as well pre-order anyway before the price goes up, that way you can get it and if you really only wanted the novel then you could probably sell the set on even minus the book for a profit I expect or just make your money back. 10,000 in Europe, that's the same amount as Panzer Dragoon Saga so this is surely a collectable of the future.

Strangely enough I was just looking at videos for that yesterday. I never got to play it back in the day and the price of it now is through the roof. Saying that, most Sega Saturn games are like that. Deep Fear, Shining Force 3 ( awesome game ), Shining The Holy Ark ( equally awesome ) and Burning Rangers all sell for a premium price. Quite the collectible console is the old Saturn.

Curse you and your logics. Preorded for now while I decide if I want it. Got some Shopto reward points so can bring the price down a bit if aI decide to go for it.
EEVILMURRAY Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Oooh, a nice box set... Most temptedings now.
Sméagol Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Is this a shopto exclusive? I may pre-order this, but I'm not sure if this will be available in The Netherlands, and I prefer ordering from Amazon for things from the UK, but I don't see the collector's edition there.
Emerald Emblem Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Awesome, what the hell. *pre-ordered*
Tales Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 I don't care much for figurines but the rest looks interesting. Could only find one shop that lists it though, and it's listed as "sign up to notified..." which means the price is not set or it's (a pre order) that's sold out. I fear it will be even more expensive here though.

Nope, GAME are selling it as well. Amazon said they would relist it soon. They took it off after they put it up with the wrong price.
Sheikah Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 This is £10 cheaper to preorder digital on the PSN Store (£25). No idea if it will stick around that price on/after launch.
EEVILMURRAY Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I've preordered mine at Grainger Games, they'll be getting the special edition too, but I'm going to see how much they sell it for before I consider upgrading.
EEVILMURRAY Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Hardcore bumpage. I must say I'm not noticing any framerate difficulties. But it's more difficult than I recall. My team runs out of TP crazy quick and there's no free-running, which was my key strategy in later Tales. It wins hands down for story, having the extra twist on later Tales titles, but as for gameplay (and skits) it shows it's age.
S.C.G Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Are you sure there's no free-running? I was sure that you could always do that in Tales of Symphonia except you needed to equip it as a skill or an item of some description... unless my memory is failing me. :p
Dcubed Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Are you sure there's no free-running? I was sure that you could always do that in Tales of Symphonia except you needed to equip it as a skill or an item of some description... unless my memory is failing me. :p Free running was introduced in Tales of the Abyss; you're probably thinking of the Manual control option in TOS (which lets you jump whenever you want by pressing up on the control stick). Anyway, I should mention that the port is in a better state now than when I first played that demo. It's on par with the PS2 version performance wise (solid 30FPS at all times), just with the loading times improved to the same standards as the GCN version. I still wouldn't say it's a great port, even compared to the PS2 version (the new outlines look crap and the celshading looks a bit weird at times - sometimes it looks like it's not even there at all), but it's a chance to play the PS2 version in English so it gets the job done

I was sure that you could always do that in Tales of Symphonia except you needed to equip it as a skill or an item of some description... unless my memory is failing me. :p I had that thinking too. But after going through the instrucrion booklet several times and a search on The Google I found my memory was wrong. Still good fun though.
Jonnas Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 If there's more than one enemy, you can change targets to make Lloyd turn direction, and the enemies themselves can do this with your team, but that's about it. If you think you could Free-Run back then, you're probably thinking of Symphonia 2
EEVILMURRAY Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 If you think you could Free-Run back then, you're probably thinking of Symphonia 2 More than likely. There's been many Tales' since then and have clearly got mixed up. Which isn't hard with most RPG series'.
EEVILMURRAY Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Very guttedsings now. Juat completed the game and saved over my normal save file. I thought it would do what other games do and take you to the last save point so you can go back and explore but sadly it won't let me do anything except start a New Game with the plus shit using your Grade. Bullshit. I wanted to do the rest of the Demon's Arms and the last Sword Dancer (which was still to bloody appear.)
