Mike Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Ick.. What an ugly game. Not too excited about this yet, but hopefully I can be convinced.
James McGeachie Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 So, new features, but all we get to show it is throwing a giant egg. Still, that was nice, I guess. They've fucked up the visual style a bit though.
Serebii Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 I want them to zoom out so we can see where we're jumping
Agent Gibbs Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 i'm not so happy with the 3d Yoshi and semi cartoon backgrounds they seem a little mismatched, but it was a zoomed in early demo so i'm hoping that it will improve that said Yoshi's island was one of the best games on the SNES so this could be epic if it keeps true to its formula
James McGeachie Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 that said Yoshi's island was one of the best games on the SNES so this could be epic if it keeps true to its formula Yoshi's Island DS kept very true to the formula. It was good, but felt almost like the whole game was just an expansion pack of slightly blander levels. I'd prefer if they switched something up for this. So far it looks like very much more of the same, but with the art style slightly molested.
yesteryeargames Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Looks lovely, a bit like the ghost jungle levels on nsmb u
Rummy Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Feeling a little similar on the art, coins feel a bit misplaced and Yoshi kind feels to me like he's popping out too much? Like he's got a magic light on him or something. I'd be interested to see how good it is in comparison to the original, because I felt quite similar to James McGeachie about YI-DS. It was staying true and trying to do more but just kinda...missed it a bit, I guess.
M_rock Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 I LOVED the DS version (never played the SNES one), but I'm not really fond of the way Yoshi looks in this game. It's like he doesn't fit in with the backdrops. I just really feel sad that sprites are being dropped out of every game suddenly, while I feel it would look much superior in this game than the pre rendered 3D sprites they showed off now. But if the gameplay is still as good, and the game has some new stuff, I'm looking forward to play this!
RedShell Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 The art style really reminds me of the intro from the SNES game: Despite being a massive fan of that game, I'm not hugely hyped for this. But if Fuzzy is in the game... then I'll get hyped! I want to "touch Fuzzy and get dizzy" 3D style.

Hogge Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Seems cool. And at least we get the classic Yoshi sounds. Some games in recent years have had a really annoying version of his "voice".
-Dem0- Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Don't really like the art style myself, thought they had a winner with the original Yoshi's Island. I still think that it's one of the best games I've ever played and the visual style of that game is timeless. Always looks great, but this game it seems that the backgrounds look better than Yoshi & Baby Mario... and the enemies... I want to "touch Fuzzy and get dizzy" 3D style. That stage is sheer awesomeness (good thing I've always got it with me!). I know Hamish is HUGE fan it and Yoshi's Island as a whole... Where is he?! Audio
Rummy Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 (edited) They probably should have taken the original style, crisped it up a little, kept it simple and used it to make really awesome/popping 3D. Sticker Star had some really great 3D on it imo, and I think the simple and vibrant art style helped to make it pop more. This looks a bit weird to me. It's a bit like they tried to take the Yoshi's Story art style and put it into the Yoshi's Island art assets; but Story worked well because they felt crafted hand in hand. This doesn't. Dcubed Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Hmm... So far they haven't really shown much actual new gameplay here... We'll see... But hey! At least Artoon can't be making this one now that the studio is dead! THANK CHRIST!
Blade Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Im looking forward to this and it was a nice surprise announcement. Never played the DS version but loved the original SNES version when it got first released. Im not too bothered if they dont revamp the gameplay too much.

Dcubed Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 So hey, I just saw this... http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/blog/33905 And he makes some good points! HAL is probably the studio most likely to be making this game I reckon. They've been awfully quiet since releasing Face Raiders (and no, I don't think that the whole studio has been busy working on the Wii U web browser since then...), EAD is too busy working on other projects and their other studios are either seemingly tied up with other projects or are unsuitable for this game. Would be really cool to see the Kirby guys working on a Yoshi game! (also matches up with what happened with Good Feel and HAL working on Kirby games at the same time before )
Londragon Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Who's working on the Yoshi Yarn game for the WiiU? Is that HAL?
daftada Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 That'll be Good Feel, developer ok Kirbys Epic Yarn, I believe.
Fused King Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 I think the 'Development List' thread should be updated again so that we can see what developers are still free to work on WiiU games.
Dcubed Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 I think the 'Development List' thread should be updated again so that we can see what developers are still free to work on WiiU games. Gonna go bump that thread now (but the new announcements don't really tell us much in the way of developer deployment TBH)
Beaneth007 Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 The original Yoshi's Island was and still is one of my favourite games of all time, cutesy music, stunning art style and just a whole load of fun. I loved how, for a "kids" game it was very tense...Just though thought of losing Baby Mario as the clock ticked was pretty scary in its own way haha. I hope this can be at least half as good.
Serebii Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but this does require me posting. I was checking for Pokémon domains from the provider as I do twice a week and I spotted something in the registrations two days ago: NewYoshisIsland.com It may be nothing, we see domains get registered all the time but it could be a sign of the name. MarioandLuigiDreamTeamBros.com was also registered on the same day. So yeah, discuss...
