Are you planning on growing a pair and playing Resident Evil 7 sometime in the future? Not at all. Although a while back I did toy with the idea of playing the game on a very small LCD TV that I use for retro gaming. I figure the jump scares will have less of an impact if they are on a little screen. 1

Interesting idea but I can assure you that it doesn't work. I've been playing on a small LCD monitor for years and I've noped out of many games. It's usually the sound that gets me. Maybe playing horror games on mute might help. And with eyes closed. And swap horror games with other genres. Yeah, genius plan. 1
Hero-of-Time Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 (edited) Quote PlayStation has named Guerrilla Games managing director and co-founder Hermen Hulst as its new head of Worldwide Studios. He starts the role immediately and will manage all of Sony's game development across its 14 internal studios. Meanwhile, Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida will leave his current role to lead a new initiative that will look after and nurture external, smaller independent studios. The changes are part of Sony Interactive Entertainment's restructuring ahead of the launch of PS5. "Hermen is a European who will be taking one of the major offices at PlayStation," he said. "I think everybody in Europe should be thrilled and happy and proud that that is happening." He continued in a statement: "Hermen is one of the most effective and well-respected leaders in the video game industry. He is a passionate advocate for the teams he leads and understands how to empower creative talent to build great experiences. I have no doubt Hermen can lead our teams to deliver compelling and diverse experiences at a steady cadence." Well deserved! Happy to see someone from Europe getting such a role. It's also a great move for Shu. He's probably looking to retire in a few years and this smaller role will probably suit him. Sony has been criticised late in this generation for not pushing indies as much as they used to and this new initiative looks to correct that. Edited November 7, 2019 by Hero-of-Time 1 2
Dcubed Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 (edited) Interesting that this promotion and the Shu move comes off the heels of this interview with Jim Ryan... https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2019-11-07-sonys-jim-ryan-we-had-to-make-changes-to-deliver-our-ps5-dream Jim Ryan keeps denying that they're Americanising the company, but I still get the feeling that this consolidation is a mistake that smacks of old school SEGA America VS Japan... Heads are gonna no doubt butt between Jim and Herman I bet; as the fight for dominance between Sony Europe and America rages on. It's good to see that they're taking critisism to heart, especially regarding their recent lackadaisical attitude towards indie developers as of late, and that they're listening to people's concerns (make no mistake, this interview is a reaction to concerns over Sony's consolidation and fears over Americanisation). But I know my history and I've seen this before with SEGA. There are some positive moves being made here, but their big name staff losses over the past year tell the tale far louder than anything Jim is saying here, as actions always speak louder than words. Things are not OK at Camp Sony, no matter how pretty a picture Jim tries to paint. We'll see if these changes end up having a positive effect, but my SEGA senses are still firing on all cylinders right now... Edited November 7, 2019 by Dcubed 1
Hero-of-Time Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 It will be interesting to see if we see similar deals over here. One of my sisters is after a PSVR for my nephew and a PS4 for my niece so these discounts will come in very handy for her.
Ronnie Posted November 24, 2019 Posted November 24, 2019 I just got an email saying my PS+ has automatically renewed for another year and my card was charged 50 quid. I had no idea I was on auto-renew, let alone that it was up for renewal at all. Just got in touch with Sony 5 minutes after getting the email requesting a cancellation and a refund. I checked my transaction history and I haven't downloaded anything off PS+ for over a year, and haven't touched my PS4 in that long to use online play, so if I don't get a refund it'll be the biggest waste of 100 quid ever.
Hero-of-Time Posted November 24, 2019 Posted November 24, 2019 I wonder why they charged you £50 when it's currently on sale on PSN for Black Friday? If you don't get a refund you should at least kick off that PS+ is currently on offer at the moment. I hate that auto renewal is pretty much standard on everything these days. It should be opt in not opt out. So many people get caught out by it. 1

To be honest I thought I had cancelled it, but evidently not. Edited November 24, 2019 by Ronnie

Magnus Posted November 24, 2019 Posted November 24, 2019 (edited) I got an email a month before my subscription automatically renewed. But maybe I'm special. I also knew it would auto-renew in advance because I know how online subscriptions work... Edited November 25, 2019 by Magnus 1

Ronnie Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 Just did a quick search on Twitter and it's full of people asking for refunds because they got charged without any warning. In fact half of them seem to be saying they'd switched auto-renew off and it still signed them up for another year. Seems a pretty flaky system, I haven't got any email from them apart from "Thanks for your purchase!". Oh well, hopefully they'll give me a full refund.

Jimbob Posted November 29, 2019 Posted November 29, 2019 (edited) 6 years ago today the PS4 came out in the UK. Still got the launch model, still working well. Resogun was one of the first games i played on the machine, and it still looks good to this day. Couldn't quite hit the high scores people were getting, but it was a fun experience none the less. Another of my highlights include Horizon Zero Dawn, that was just a fantastic experience throughout. I plan to replay it before the PS5 comes out, and hopefully Platinum it. The PS4 was my first proper experience of a PlayStation machine, and can't fault it. Got a Vita soon afterwards on a recommendation from @Sheikah. Edited November 30, 2019 by Jimbob 2

Crazy how time flies. I've upgraded to a Pro about 18 months ago. No regrets. The PS4 is my favourite console/gaming device ever (followed by PSVita ). And it's insane how it's still going. Selling well, with some great titles still on the way. Couldn't be happier with it In fact, I bought a 12 month PS+ subscription today because I will definitely get my value out of it next year (and it was only 30 bucks, so ). 1
S.C.G Posted November 29, 2019 Posted November 29, 2019 I'm still on my launch model PS4, it's sobering to think that beyond a few games which I would keep coming back to, I've barely played on my PS4 at all in those six years. Of course, there are plenty of games on it I still plan to play, but it has just really hit home that I need to start prioritising what I play a lot more if I'm to stand any chance at all. Devil May Cry, Shenmue and Yakuza... those are the three main seris I'll be prioritising playing for now. Monster Hunter World: Iceborne and Dangerous Driving... those are the two games I'll go back to inbetween playing other games hopefully. God of War and NieR Automata at some point. Well, it's a start.
Ronnie Posted November 29, 2019 Posted November 29, 2019 I'm glad I got a PS4 but I haven't played it anywhere near as much as I thought I would, and it's been collecting dust for a year. I've also wasted money on PS+ for a few of those years, I don't think I once fired up any of the free games they offered, but that last part is more down to me just not finding the service particularly attractive. Enjoyed Detroit, Tearaway Unfolded (so much wasted potential), Shadow of the Colossus Remake and God of War on it though, struggling to think of any other big games that made a lasting impression. Infamous was fun and the Order looked stunning for sure.
Goafer Posted November 29, 2019 Posted November 29, 2019 I think my highlights have been Persona 5, Witcher 3, Shenmue 3 (and the 1 and 2 collection), Until Dawn, Red Dead Redemption 2, Nier Automata and GTAV. All masterpieces IMO.
bob Posted November 29, 2019 Posted November 29, 2019 I enjoyed Horizon, Yakuza 0, SotC, No Man's Sky and Spider-Man.
Hero-of-Time Posted November 29, 2019 Posted November 29, 2019 (edited) It had a slow start (I didn't buy one until around 10 months into the life cycle) but once it got going there was no stopping it. I've had so many great gaming experiences, from Infamous Second Son all the way up until Death Stranding. The console ushered in a revival of Japanese developed games, something which was sorely lacking during the last generation. World of Final Fantasy, Persona 5, Nier Automata, Dragon Quest Builders, Dragon Quest XI, Yakuza 0, Tales of series, Kingdom Hearts 3...the list goes on. All absolute amazing titles that I lapped up. It also hosted the reinvention of the Monster Hunter series, which is something that needed to happen, and Capcom were well paid for bringing the series back home. The console gave VR a push to the more mainstream audience and gave me the opportunity to finally try VR without having to break the bank. Astro Bot will forever go down as one of the most amazing and engaging gaming experiences I have ever had in my life. I think the technology still has a long way to go but this was a great first step at an affordable unit. I think Sony went from strength to strength with their exclusives this generation. If you look at what they started off with and look at where they are now there's no denying that some of their studios have have matured and grown. Thanks to things like Horizon, God of War, Uncharted and Spider-Man, their 1st party studios now seem to command a lot of respect from both within the industry and gamers alike. The mix of high quality 1st party software and very strong 3rd party software, all spaced out very well ( Sony seems to let the 3rd parties have the second half of the year while they fill in the first half ), has led to me never really feeling a drought period throughout the whole of the time that I have owned it. The amount of variety on the thing is staggering. I've put in a crazy amount of time on the PS4 across a stupid amount of games and I don't think it has ever let me down in terms of features or software. It's done and played everything that I wanted. Hell of a console and it's easily up there as being one of my favourite consoles of all time. Edited November 29, 2019 by Hero-of-Time 1

Either way, have a good one. Maybe I'll play one of those games you keep recommending so often... I did actually pick one up recently, Enter the Gungeon... on the Switch though of course. Perhaps I'll give that a blast later, or start/finish one of the many PS4 games I've been meaning to which are listed in my previous post. 1
