Retro_Link Posted October 16, 2012 Author Posted October 16, 2012 So Agent Coulson has been confirmed to be a lead character in this series! Which asks the question... - Did SHIELD do all sort of magicky stuff on him after he seemingly died? - Or is Series 1 of SHIELD set before The Avengers?
bryanee Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 RETCON. They didnt do shit to revive him. They obviously just wanted a fan fave from the Phase One films in the series to give the public some one they know to latch onto. A prequel series wouldnt make much sense so imo I reckon they have retconned the whole reason the Avengers decided to stop be prissy tits and save the world. This could explain why they edited out the actual blade protruding from his body when Loki killed him for the international blu ray release.
Retro_Link Posted October 16, 2012 Author Posted October 16, 2012 (edited) This could explain why they edited out the actual blade protruding from his body when Loki killed him for the international blu ray release.I did think this; but the fact that everyone who watched that film remembers him dying surely doesn't make it quite that easy? bob Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 I'm pretty sure the blade thing is just so they could rate the bluray for as many people as possible and sell more. It was probably the only thing preventing the bluray becoming a 12 in Western Samoa or something.
Shorty Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 I thought the Blade thing was one of a list-as-long-as-my-arm why the UK blu-ray release sucks. It's in the US release, they just made a mistake with ours and took one from somewhere like Germany.

It was probably the only thing preventing the bluray becoming a 12 in Western Samoa or something. The BBFC rated a version with the blade sticking out and it got the same rating. It was changed quite late. I read that the BBFC was going to investigate the new release as that wasnt the version they were sent to rate. That isnt the only thing missing in our Blu ray, we dont have the Whedon commentary either.
Ashley Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 The series will apparently be a different take/whatever. i.e. the events in the film don't affect the TV series, like parallel universes or something. Like how the Ghost in the Shell movies and TV series aren't part of the same universe (and even take place in different cities if I recall) but use the same characters/back story.
Ashley Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 I think I read it as speculation and in my head got muddled up and confused and tired and sleepy and confused and...
bryanee Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Ahhh the Alison Brie gif game, one of my faves.
Ashley Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 I was hoping to find one that said "What's a dimushushsu returch?", which would have accurately represented my brain yesterday. That was the closest I could find.
Retro_Link Posted January 27, 2013 Author Posted January 27, 2013 http://uk.ign.com/articles/2013/01/27/cobie-smulders-talks-agent-maria-hill-in-shield-and-captain-america Cobie Smulders Talks Agent Maria Hill in S.H.I.E.L.D. and Captain America Some speculate that classic Marvel characters will begin to appear in the show should it be picked-up for series, and that the decision to primarily separate the universes within the central cast was done deliberately to avoid any potential continuity issues between the films and the television show. As Eric Goldman reported earlier this month, S.H.I.E.L.D. does take place, "after the battle for New York." Meaning, post the cinematic Avengers team-up, and after Coulson's apparent death. Whedon, who is also set to direct the upcoming The Avengers 2, may be shaping a plan to weave the worlds together, though. For her part, Smulders said in a recent interview with I Am Rouge that, "The commitments to [How I Met Your Mother] don’t affect it [her inclusion in S.H.I.E.L.D. ]. And I can’t really say, but there are definite talks about it." Of course, as she says, Smulders is set to return as the scotch-guzzling former Canadian pop-star Robin Scherbatsky in the upcoming 9th season of How I Met Your Mother. So if she has a role on S.H.I.E.L.D, it will presumably be as recurring guest star, rather than as a series regular. The actress is set to appear as Hill in 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier alongside fellow The Avengers alums Samuel L. Jackson and Scarlett Johansson, as well as Cap himself of course, Chris Evans. She is tentatively scheduled to begin shooting the film in March or June, but revealed to the outlet that she’d only seen parts of the script. “This is Marvel! They don’t let you know anything," the actress said. "It’s very watermarked scripts, heavily watermarked. Yeah, they don’t let you know like the day of, but they are very secretive and I think they are still figuring stuff out." The more Cobie the better!
EEVILMURRAY Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 This is going to blow. I can tell. They won't feature any villians/characters which are mega popular, and it they do they will either be cameo/guest appearances or the character will be watered down to fuck.
Retro_Link Posted January 28, 2013 Author Posted January 28, 2013 I'm looking at it as hopefully being 'SHIELD does Smallville'... and in that respect I think it could be great!
Cube Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 I'm just hoping it's Joss Whedon being Joss Whedon.
Shorty Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 I'm looking at it as hopefully being 'SHIELD does Smallville'... So you're hoping no real Marvel heroes show up until the last 30 minutes of the tenth and final season and then they're just CG'd in? Or perhaps you're hoping that the budget is cut to pocket change half way through and the majority of the cast leaves? Oh I got it, you must be hoping that they never stick to a continuous story arc and instead wrap up an irrelevant plot each episode by murdering a randomly generated supervillain.

Think he more meant that random, lesser known, Marvel characters would appear :p
Magnus Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 I thought he meant he was hoping it would be trash?
Cube Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 Full name and cast announced: http://www.bleedingcool.com/2013/04/06/joss-whedons-shield-show-gets-an-official-plot-blurb-and-full-title Joss Whedon (MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) shows us not all heroes are super with MARVEL’S AGENTS OF SHIELD. Fresh from his role in the summer’s box office smash, MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS, Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) returns to the worldwide law enforcement organization SHIELD. He puts together a small, highly trained, team of Agents to tackle the cases that haven’t been classified yet, the new, the strange and the unknown. That team consists of straight arrow Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), an expert in combat and espionage; pilot and martial artist Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen); and brilliant if socially awkward scientists Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge). They’ll be joined by civilian new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet). Prepare for an epic adventure that showcases the hope and wonder of the human spirit. This is a world of Super Heroes, aliens and the unusual – of action, spectacle and world spanning stories. The show will speak to the human condition through the lens of our very human, non-powered SHIELD agents – that together we are greater than we are apart, and that we can make a difference in the world. Executive Produced and co-written by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen (Dollhouse, Dr.Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog), Jeffrey Bell (Angel, Alias) and Jeph Loeb (Smallville, Lost, Heroes) comes Marvel’s first live-action TV series, Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD. The cast seem to be people who haven't appeared in much, except for Ming-Na Wen, who was utterly dreadful in Stargate Universe.
Magnus Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 Maybe she realized she was on Stargate and phoned it in. She was fine on ER, though she did disappear without a trace between seasons, and that's always annoying.
Ashley Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 Well J. August Richards is also in it, but his role is a TOP SECRET MYSTERY!
Magnus Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 I'm sure that whatever it is, he'll end up being completely useless past season 2.
Jon Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Ming-Na was class on ER until her stupid father related storyline that got so boring, and as Maggie said, she randomly forgot to come back to work and they wrote her out.
Happenstance Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 The pilot was picked up. Looking forward to seeing how this show turns out.
