Ashley Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Just watched Mysterious Skin. Was surprised by the quality of the child acting especially with the content of the film, and also of the "gay" scenes of Joseph Gordon Levitt. Interesting to watch. And then there's the 'shower scene'. Felt the need to rock back on the floor after that.
Cube Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Just found out that this is out a week on Friday. I really want to see it, could be Whedon's best film this year. I may even overlook my hatred of cinemas to see it.
ReZourceman Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 could be Whedon's best film this year. .....................................
Cube Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 His other one will be really good, but everyone will probably be disappointed due to overhyping.
Ashley Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 I've heard its really good from a few friends who have seen it. Trying to score free tickets to see it :p
Murr Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 Dumb and Dumber 2 Shooting Soon Back in October, it was revealed that sibling filmmakers Peter Farrelly and Bobby Farrelly had signed on to develop a sequel to Dumb and Dumber. And yesterday, at the junket for their soon-to-be-released remake of The Three Stooges, Peter Farrelly announced that not only was the project still a go, but production is now slated to begin this September. "It's the first sequel we've ever done," the filmmaker told ComingSoon.net, "and we've got Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels back." And even though the 1994 comedy classic was given a prequel followup back in 2003 (Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd), the Farrelly brothers want to make sure that people know their own sequel will be a completely different movie. "We did not do Dumb and Dumberer," Farrelly continued. "That was a studio thing. So we've always wanted to do a sequel and finally Jim called up. Jeff always wanted to do it. We always wanted to do it. Jim was busy, but he called and said, 'We've got to do this thing again.' He had just watched Dumb and Dumber and he said, 'This is the perfect sequel. Let's do it.'" This along with Anchorman 2 are sequels that I really do want. Glad that Jim Carrey & Jeff Daniels are up for it.
Hamishmash Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 I seem to be the only person who thinks Ted looks bloody awful...
bob Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 It looks.....strange. I like how they didn't bother to explain why there is a talking teddy bear at all. Might be quite funny.
Hamishmash Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 The film. "Cute thing being crude" just doesn't make me laugh, I guess.
Coolness Bears Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 I seem to be the only person who thinks Ted looks bloody awful... Nope it looks dire.
Ramar Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 Went and saw this film this evening. Really enjoyed it, good animation and funny throughout. Orange Wednesday too.
Fierce_LiNk Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 Finally saw Rise of The Planet of the Apes last night. It was amazing. This is how you can make a new film/reboot that contains several nods to the originals whilst still containing new things and ideas, whilst not shitting on the original. It was brilliant. I loooooved the nods to the original, especially the ones that you wouldn't get unless you knew the film inside out. - I loved how two of the characters were named Dodge and Landon, who were two of the four astronauts in the ship in the original film. - Bright eyes, which is what Zira called Charlton Heston's Taylor in the original. - Caeser - the name of the protagonist in Conquest of the Planet of the Apes - the many lines which were almost lifted from the original "it's a madhouse!) - When Caeser says no, which links in with a dialogue that takes place in Escape from the Planet of the Apes, where Cornelius talks about the first Ape named Aldo who says "No", as he stands up to the humans - Caeser being led around on a leash, like Taylor in the original and Caeser in Conquest there were loads more, too. Overall, it was sci-fi porn for me. I thought it was very clever how: The virus was subtly interlinked with the Rise of the Apes, so you weren't explicitly told that the virus made the way for the apes, but you were able to put the pieces together and imagine that this is what then happened. James Franco was brilliant. Kept the human element of the film alive, whilst also showing how flawed the humans were. On the one hand, he wants to save his Father. On the other, he damns all of mankind. I would be ecstatic if there is a follow up to this in a similar style. This destroys the film that Tim Burton made, which is terrible in comparison. Really enjoyed this.

Really enjoyed this. I agree with all of the above. Me and a friend watched it thinking it would just be 2 hours of mindless ape fights, and were both pleasantly surprised.
Coolness Bears Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 damn dirty apes YES! Surprise hit of last summer. MY GOD. I was excited just from the trailer and orgasmed 4 times in my seat right there and then. I still need to get the film on Bluray but it was like MONKEYYYS everywhere. The subtle references to the other films made it though. A great treat for any planet of the apes fans and it helped wash away that horrible tim Burton taste from my mouth because even when I saw it when I was 10/11 I though it sucked.
Cube Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 I didn't get any of the references (I've only seen the remake) but it was still a brilliant film.

You grow more beautiful to me everyday. I'm not ashamed to say that I'm still on a high after seeing this. It's great to have a new film in a series or as part of a reboot that isn't just "okay".

The original film in particular was hardly about the action, it was a voyage of discovery for Taylor. This. What I loved the most, besides all the other great points you've already highlighted, was the fact that the film didn't go the easy route and make it into an "apes vs humans" revolution thing, but made it seem like a realistic evolution.
Coolness Bears Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Yeah! I like how it's the humans that just messed it all up for themselves. :p Sounds about right.
Tales Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Finished watching Chloe just now. Very good psychological thriller. Anyone who has watched this know of similar movies?
Ellmeister Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 Got tickets to see Battleship premiere next Tuesday. Looks awful, but free tickets!
Beast Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 One of the things I have never watched in my life were the Alien series (well, I've seen AVP and AVP:R but people don't tend to count them) so after watching the Prometheus trailer, I decided I was going to watch them all. Alien is just so good. I really enjoyed everything about it and I find the Alien to be a heck of a lot more freaky-looking and scary in this one than I did in AVP or AVP:R. I also love Ripley. I'm going to be watching Aliens tonight and I really hope it's either just as good as Alien or better. A few people tell me it's better or just as good but some people tell me it's rubbish. I guess I'll see for myself tonight.
Paj! Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 but some people tell me it's rubbish. I guess I'll see for myself tonight. Discount these people's opinions from now on.
