Happenstance Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Havent seen this pop up for a few years on the forum, if at all so figured id start one. If you were stuck on a desert island and were allowed so many of the items i'll list below which would you bring? For this one i'll say you can choose 2 in each catagory and they'll be Movies, Music, Games and Books. Omnibous' are ok but no boxsets of stuff. Anyway mine would be: Movies: Spider-Man 2 - Probably quite obvious for me but I can watch this movie over and over (which is probably helpful in that situation!) Star Trek: Wrath of Khan - Decided to go with a Star Trek movie and this one just edged out First Contact but I really do love me some trek. Music: AC/DC: Greatest Hits - Not really a music lover so these wont be well thought out but I like AC/DC so there we go. Top Gear Anthems - Just liked a lot of the songs and a nice mix, helpful when you only have 2 albums :p Games: Super Mario All Stars + Super Mario World - The original Super Mario Bros kept me playing probably longer than any other game so I figured I may as well get the rest of them in there. Football Manager 2007 - I can play the Football Manager games for hours without getting bored day after day and the 2007 version just seems to stick out in my head as the one I played the most and liked the interface. Books: Star Trek: The Return - Ive only just got back into reading books now ive got my Kindle but I have read this book about 3 or 4 times over the years and am planning on doing it again soon. Crisis on Infinite Earths TPB - Probably not my favourite comic story but an epic one that wouldnt leave me wanting to read what happens afterwards.
Goafer Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Movies: Scott Pilgrim - Because I could honestly watch it over and over again. Stand by Me - Because it's one of my favourite movies ever. Music: Daft Punk - Discovery - Every track is gold. Stolen Babies - There Be Troubles Ahead - Again, every track is gold. Also it's just brilliant. Games: Gran Turismo 5 - It's the sort of game that I can keep coming back to. I go through patches of playing it and it's always fun when I'm in the mood. Plus I need some sort of car fix whilst on the island. I'd go crazy without them. WoW - Because there is no bigger game out there. Potentially limitless. Plus on a desert island, it's the closest thing to socialising. Books: Not really a book person, so I'm counting magazines. Digital SLR Magazine - Obvious really. Front - Because it's genuinely funny and has tits for the inevitable loneliness of desert island existence.
The Peeps Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Movies Scott Pilgrim - like Goafer, I could watch this over and over. I also love the soundtrack so that's a bonus :p A Life Less Ordinary - Great film, I could probably watch this a fair few times without getting bored too. Music Madness any compilation really... My favourite band! Elbow Seldom Seen Kid - I like every track... Music is something where I find it difficult to be limited to just 2 choices. First choice would probably always be Madness but my second choice could be one of about 20. Games Lylat Wars - I could definitely play this over and over again forever - and I have done! Blur - fantastic racing game... best I've played in a long while. It's so hard to only pick 2! Books I don't read as much as I used to but I have a few favourites so I'm going to take liberties here... The Book With No Name by Anonymous. There are 3 books in this series (so far) and I'm actually picking all of them :p The Bromeliad - Terry Pratchett. Again, this is a trilogy of books but I do at least own a copy of all of them in one book so this is less cheeky.
ReZourceman Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Movies: Ghostbusters - Can watch over and over and over and over and over. Anchorman - Can watch over and over and over and over and over. Or Airplane!. It'd be tought between those two. Music: Linkin Park - Meteora Fallout Boy - Take This To Your Grave Find them both incredibly easy to listen to, and love all the tracks. Games: Uncharted 2 (providing the desert island has Wi-Fi. Donkey Kong Country 2 - Duh. Books: Invincible Hardcover volume 6 - contains stories of utter win. Don't know what the second one would be. Too hard.
EddieColeslaw Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Movies 1. The Dark Knight. Don't think I'll ever get tired of it, and I've watched it at least 20 times... 2. Shaolin Soccer (少林足球). Some laughs for when I start freaking out about, you know. Being stuck on a damn desert island. Music 1. my little airport - 在動物園散步才是正經事 (Zoo is Sad, People are Cruel). 2. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World soundtrack. (Don't really have an explanation for these.) Games 1. The latest Pokémon game! Which I do not actually have because I lack a DS/3DS! 2. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Entertaining and replayable. Books 1. Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder. Should give me plenty to think about. 2. Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan. Coolest book ever.
MadDog Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Movies Toy Story 3 - Could easily watch this everyday. Star Wars - Love them all (3,4,5,6 actually). Music Paramore - Could listen to them all day, and my favourite band. Rihanna - It would be silly to pick a band/artist of a similar genre, so i'd go for something different. Games EVE Online - When i'm into this, i play it alot, so it would help pass time very nicely. It's also amazingly fun. Uncharted 2 - My favourite game ever. Books Playstation Magazine - I don't read books or magazines really, but i've bought this a few times. Top Gear Magazine - Again, i've bought it and enjoyed it a few times.
Cube Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Films Firefly - I know it's not a film, but it is only one season. One wonderful season that I could watch a million times. Dodgeball - A strange choice, but it's a comedy film I could watch a million times. Music Maximo Park - Our Earthly Pleasures - My favourite album. Justice - Cross - Epically awesome. Games Banjo-Kazooie - It fills me with joy even thinking about it/ Star Trek: Bridge Commander - If I also had the modding tools when this would last me forever. Books Michael Crichton - Prey - I've read it a few times before and can definitely read it again. Michael Crichton - The Andromeda Strain - See above.
Happenstance Posted April 1, 2011 Author Posted April 1, 2011 Star Trek: Bridge Commander - If I also had the modding tools when this would last me forever. That was nearly on my list as well!
The Peeps Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Nearly picked Banjo Kazooie. It is such a great game
Nolan Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Firefly is depressing.....stupid Fox. Movies 28 Days Later, I could watch an endless loop, and if I got bored of watching, the soundtrack is phenomenal. Pulp Fiction, similar reasons as above. Music Nine Inch Nails: The Fragile it's two full discs of musical bliss. Violent Femmes: Add it up. A compilation of the best songs from the best crappy band. Games Fallout 2, it has quite the bit of replay in it. Pokemon Black Books Ilium and Olympos. Two books that create quite an odd story. What with the Martian Trojan war going on in the future, and Robots from Jupiter. And earth has Post Humans.
heroicjanitor Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Movies The Matrix Hercules(Disney) Music The Eminem Show Something by Globus probably, just for a source of epic. Games The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - The characters seem to acknowledge you, which I would need after a while, and it has longetivity. Shadow of the Colossus Books Harry Potter books - If I had to pick one I'd say the 3rd one. A book about desert survival.
Pancake Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Films Terminator 2 Rain Man Music Return of Saturn - No Doubt Tales of a Librarian - Tori Amos Games Zelda: Ocarina of Time Resident Evil remake Books It - Stephen King My Booky Wook - Russell Brand
Hamishmash Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 FILMS Pee Wee's Big Adventure The Rocky Horror Picture Show MUSIC The Archandroid - Janelle Monae The Best of Bowie - David Bowie GAMES Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World Any Pokemon game (finally have a chance to try and catch them all!) BOOKS The Bible (so I could properly read it and write a list of all the contradictions and promotions of violence and hate) The Tempest (I know it's a play, not a book, but it's my favourite Shakespeare and it's sent on a desert island. :P)
Beast Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 MOVIES 1) Scott Pilgrim vs. The World- Just like everyone else, I could watch it again and again 2) Porn- Hey, you telling me you wouldn't? :p MUSIC 1) Sucker Punch soundtrack- Just love it! 2) Eminem- Curtain Call- A great album GAMES 1) Dance Central- Played it once and fell in love, a great way to keep fit on the island 2) Gears of War 2- I like the Gears series so this would be a must BOOKS 1) Any Harry Potter book- I just love Harry Potter so this is a must 2) Any Stephen King book (most probably IT)- I just love Stephen King so this is a must This was surprisingly incredibly tough for me! I did think of Castaway as a joke but realistically, it would be Scott Pilgrim!
Paj! Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Tales of a Librarian - Tori Amos I know it's her only single CD collection, but the sound mixing/remastering on that is disgusting. Spark doesn't even sound like the same song. Terrible. But I guess it covers multiple albums...
Fierce_LiNk Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 MOVIES Aliens - This movie is like an old friend to me. Despite seeing it a million times, it still hits the right spot. Ghostbusters - My kind of humour, and it's got a nice mixture of action, comedy and a tiny bit of romance as well. Bill Murray is a God to me. MUSIC Oasis - (What's The Story) Morning Glory? - My favourite all time album. It has so many of my favourite songs and each track is a classic in its own right. Albums like this don't get made enough. A true classic. The Zidane Sountrack by Mogwai - I've listened to this countless times and it is just so beautiful, haunting and relaxing all at the same time. GAMES Eternal Darkness - So replayable. An awesome story line to boot, as well. I always know I'm starting something special when I start the first chapter of this game. Super Smash Bros. Brawl - there's just so much to do in this game, I know I'll never be bored. So, this would last me for the end of my days. BOOKS The "His Dark Materials" trilogy. Cheating, I know. But, I love the books. If I can only have one, I'll have The Subtle Knife as that's my favourite in the trilogy. 1984 - a mindfuck, and also an important piece of fiction. Chilling, in its own way.
EEVILMURRAY Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Omnibous' are ok but no boxsets of stuff. Games: Super Mario All Stars + Super Mario World Hell no, that's a digital boxset if anything :p Movies, A Fish Called Wanda, classic film. Die Hard With A Vengeance, I slightly prefer this to the original. Music, Billy Joel Ultimate Collection, because I'm that retro. Elton John Greatest Hits, see above. Games, Eternal Darkness, so pr0 Some massive-esque RPG, Tales of Symphonia/Final Fantasy VIII perhaps. Or the 100 Classic Book Collection for the DS, fuck you 2 book limit! Books, River God by Wilbur Smith. Best fucking book I've ever read. A Discworld book to be later determined. Or I can rip the covers off and stick 'em together and pass it off as an omnibus.
Happenstance Posted April 2, 2011 Author Posted April 2, 2011 Hell no, that's a digital boxset if anything :p Its a game released in one cartridge, im keeping it.
Pancake Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 I know it's her only single CD collection, but the sound mixing/remastering on that is disgusting. Spark doesn't even sound like the same song. Terrible. But I guess it covers multiple albums... It was my first Tori album, and i loved it. When i came to listen to the originals, it was them that sounded 'wrong' to my ears, because i'd grown attached to the Librarian versions. Also yeah, you're only allowed one disk, and it's the only way to cover songs from multiple albums. Wish Raspberry Swirl was on there though.
EEVILMURRAY Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Its a game released in one cartridge, im keeping it. Calm down sport, you know there's nothing but love between us.
Magnus Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Is this a desert on an island (that'd be kind of weird) or are we on an island in an oasis or something? MOVIES2) Porn- Hey, you telling me you wouldn't? :p Being stuck on an island would be a great opportunity for some personal time, but it would have to be a really great porno not to get dull before you're rescued.
EEVILMURRAY Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 not to get dull before you're rescued. Such is the danger with everything we pick here.
gaggle64 Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Movies Belle Ville Rendezvous - I love this movie so very very much, my absolute favourite. It's like one of those incredibly vivid dreams you wish you could remember more clearly later on. Undercover Brother - endlessly re-watchable goofiness. Arguably better than Austin Powers. Yeah, that's right. What you gonna do about it? Music A Copland Celebration Vol 1 - a great collection of my favourite composer. Quiet City breaks my heart on every note. Athlete: Vehicles & Animals - a seminal album which they simply haven't lived up to since. Games F1 2010 - I'm going figure out how to get round Monaco without pinging about like a pinball even if it fucking kills me. Rome: Total War - The emotional state I have once I've marched an army into the breach and murdered everyone inside is probably something I should consult a therapist about. Books Too Black Too Strong by Benjamin Zephaniah - the best poet alive today. End of. Ruined City by Neville Shute - An impossibly human tale that hit me rather close to home in a couple of odd spots. My favourite.
Nolan Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 (edited) Also yeah, you're only allowed one disk, Wait, when did that rule come into effect? Edited April 3, 2011 by Nolan
Paj! Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 MoviesBelle Ville Rendezvous - I love this movie so very very much, my absolute favourite. It's like one of those incredibly vivid dreams you wish you could remember more clearly later on. Yes! Such an apt description. Got same feeling from The Illusionist too (Chomet's most recent one). Beautiful films. Need them on DVD actually.
