Goafer Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 Lost my level 13 character fuck you GTA - fuck you right in the ear! Its sad but true - I'll be back as GTA Online is so damn good! It might not be gone for good. Check the Rockstar Social website and see if it's still on there (It should be under character stats). It could be that it's still saved to the cloud storage, but the game can't access it right now. I've heard the best way to start and exit the online is to go through single player first/after. So start single player, then go into online, then quit back to single player once you're done. It's not foolproof, but I've heard it gives you the best chance.
Agent Gibbs Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 My original car (Ocelot coupe that looks like a jag) never ever returned so i stole a Dodge Charger like @Happenstance and coloured it exactly the same..... got to level 10 before switching off today, $22k in the bank not long till i can buy a house only 1/5th of the way there lol

I still don't get why it's not storing a local copy as well?! Thing dropbox it has a locally stored folder of files and the ones in the cloud when your computer starts up it checks the two folders and syncs/replaces/copies over any new content why can GTA not do that so you will always have a local copy of your most recent progress at the very least?! Unless there is a technical reason this can't happen?
Helmsly Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Note: Please do NOT use the “Retry” button after receiving the message “Rockstar Cloud Servers are unavailable” as this may result in loss of character data. If you are trying to access GTA Online and Rockstar Cloud Servers are unavailable, please exit to GTAV Story Mode and try entering GTA Online again through the Pause menu in Story Mode. We will be issuing a title update that will fix this issue as soon as possible. Rockstar Support
Goafer Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 What a joke. The last patch added the retry button, only for it to apparently delete characters. Wonder how they'll fuck up the next patch. Really starting to dislike this game. We get a half assed story mode so that they could spend their time making a multiplayer that doesn't work and is actually a bit disappointing when it does.
Cube Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 (edited) But the story is the best one in any GTA. Edited October 7, 2013 by Cube

Happenstance Posted October 7, 2013 Author Posted October 7, 2013 As much as I have been getting more and more riled up everytime there is a new issue with the online and complaining about the game, it was never about the single player. I dont think it suffered at all in development because of the multiplayer.
Murr Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 The single player was incredible, I loved every bit of my 2 play through's. A massive step up in terms of story and character interaction than previous GTA's (with the exception of Vice City that had some of the most memorable characters and story but that's my opinion). But this is most definitely an awesome attempt from Rockstar. If there's one gripe I have with it, It's that Los Santos (the city) isn't big enough. And that's not me saying the maps too small, that's not the case at all, Blaine county and the mountains, desert, lakes etc are all fantastic, I love it, can spend hours driving by admiring it. But The actual city of Los Santos itself, it was big, but not big enough, it appears dwarfed when you see it on the map. I know we can't have it all, and I love the game to bits, I love the map. I just wish it was more a GTA San Andreas as in a state rather than just one of the cities from San Andreas. Limitation wise I guess it must be a nightmare to comprehend fitting San Fierro or Las Venturas onto the game as-well. All I can think of now is GTA6. What 5 years or so away? Possibly more due to R* supporting Online and keeping that updated for a year or 2.
Tales Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 (edited) I think Los Santos is pretty big actually. There have been a few cases online where I have went "wow, I haven't been here before?" While messing around, I eventually got trapped in the river that I think runs down from the dam, and had to try my luck in the sewers, it was surprisingly big and diverse. I eventually found the exit that happened to be where you go during one of the heists. Is the online working now btw? No one appears in the world map, and I can't invite anyone and no one send me invites, but I am playing in the online world no problems otherwise. Edited October 7, 2013 by Tales
Goafer Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 I enjoyed the single player, but it just seemed like a bit of a letdown. Even more so now that I've had time to think about it/the initial hype has worn off. And just to be clear, I'm talking about the main story/missions, not so much the free roaming. It was too short. I seem to remember taking much longer to complete the main story in the other games. I wasn't even playing GTA 5 as heavily as I did previous games. It never really felt like a challenge or an achievement. Other than the first and last heist, the rewards were pretty much non-existent. Large areas of the map, such as the casino, race track or dam, were unused/pointless in single player. Even San Andreas had a working casino. Felt completely rushed. Here are the main bad guys just roaming the map. Go kill them. Should have been a much more climactic ending, given that they were the main antagonists. I'd say only 2, maybe 3 heists actually felt worth it. The one with the submarine felt like it was only there to force you to use a submarine. Not even a reward for doing it. It never felt like you actually progressed. The whole island was unlocked from the beginning and once you'd done the first heist, you had enough money for pretty much anything. The only thing you need huge amounts of money for are the properties and they only really unlock a regular income. If you've just spent millions on a property, you probably don't need the income. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed the single player. It just felt a bit lacking compared to previous GTAs/Red Dead Redemption. I wouldn't really mind if the multiplayer made up for it, but it's a mess at the minute and the missions seem a little bit lacking. So far it's only been collect the cars and steal the drugs. Maybe it will get better, but it's not like I'm going to get to find out any time soon by the looks of things.
flameboy Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Never posted an animated gif before but here goes this is hilarious! Personally hate the huge checkpoints in races which they had found a more elegant solution.
RedShell Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 ^ Awesome. :awesome: I swear, you could play this game forever and still not discover/experience everything it has to offer. Messed about onilne a bit more today. It seems to be running really well now, and when it does it's just so good. I remember seeing that it'd be possible to create custom races and stuff in the trailer, but can't seem to find any option to do so. Is that available now, or is it being added later?
James Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 A 16 player cross country motor bike race is really something to be admired.
Tales Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 I have yet to get a race with more than three players in it, including myself. Anyway, didn't get to play online today, (I only tried for a little while), I was in the online world but was unable to connect to any players at all, world and jobs. Will try again tomorrow.
Cube Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Online was smooth today. Had some games with Fernie and Cooky, which were fun. However, I hate the economy in the game. It's bad enough that it takes ages to earn money and everything is so expensive, but you lose so much from deaths. Going crazy and having fun just destroys your progress and requires a ton of grinding to recover. It turns it into a system where half the players want to avoid other players. Also, you're discouraged from defending yourself if the person trying to kill you is in a car. Destroy too many and you'll only be able to play with other bad sports, and you'll be banned from joining your friends and crew for 48 hours. Having own car is great, as are other features. But many aspects come with the cost of reducing a fun. In GTA4 you could start a lobby, turn off the cops and just have fun. The thing GTA5 needs the most is a freeplay with no consequences, even if earning money would also be blocked in that mode.
LazyBoy Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 Anyone fancy getting together for a session tonight? See if we can get a group of us going. 8-ish?
MATtheHAT Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 I see we are posting pictures of our sweet rides. Here's mine: On top of mount Chiliad.
Agent Gibbs Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 i didn't realise the money situation on death was so bad until yesterday i had £37k in the bank, and came across some guy robbing a store, so since i try to be a helpful player i sat outside and shot the cops when they arrived to give him time to escape...the douche shot me then and challenged me to a deathmatch, which i did found it hilarious, only to finish and discover i had £26k left of my money.... since then i've avoided everyone, it needs rebalancing
Tales Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 (edited) Yeah, I said this before, losing money because you die take away the fun and make you avoid any and every confrontation. Are there any I haven't added yet? @RedShell ? My username is Tahles, but add a short message if you add me, like "N-E". Am I added to the N-Europe crew? I see the logo next some of you guys, but nothing next to my name? Too bad about the final level @LazyBoy ! But there was no way for me to take down the choppers without a rocket launcher. Was surprised I even got that first one though, swear I had like one hp left.. I'll be back in an hour and then I want a race! Edited October 8, 2013 by Tales Automerged Doublepost
