Murr Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Now that MGM has worked through most of its money problems, the 23rd James Bond movie is finally back on track. The Wrap and Variety are reporting that the studio has officially announced today that the as-yet-untitled film will go into production later this year and premiere Nov. 9, 2012. Daniel Craig will be back for his third turn as 007, and Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Jarhead) is still on track to direct. Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan will write the screenplay. No word yet on which studio will distribute the film for MGM, but at this point… just be glad you're getting another Daniel Craig Bond adventure. Source - IGN.com Yay
Mokong Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Movie wise this is great news, though I wasn't fond of Casino Royal and have yet to see Quantum of Solace, it's always good to know Bond is not dead. Game wise I'm not sure if I like this news. This means Activision will focus on a game-movie tie in. I was actually hoping for more from Eurocom in the vien of Goldeneye, taken an older film and remaking it within a game. Well with the film not due till 2012 they'll likely still want to bring something out for 2011 I guess.
Oxigen_Waste Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 How can you not be fond of Casino Royale? oO
Beast Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 With Daniel Craig as James Bond, quite easily! :p
Murr Posted January 12, 2011 Author Posted January 12, 2011 This guy should be the next 007 Tom Hardy is awesome
david.dakota Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 This guy should be the next 007 Tom Hardy is awesome Willing to bet my hat he'd not want it.
Retro_Link Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Yeah as AWESOME as Tom Hardy would be, maybe it would be best he stayed away from the series. Casino Royale is pretty good, but after a few watches I now find it a bit boring really, outside of the first 15mins. Quantum of Solace... pretty aweful! This is good news, but not if it's anything like the last film! Which was trying to be way to serious for its own good.
LostOverThere Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Casino Royale was absolutely amazing, although I'm sure in part this was because Martin Campbell was directing (who of course did GoldenEye, that other brilliant Bond film). Quantum of Solace I'd rather forget about, on the other hand. Nevertheless, I can't wait for this.
The Peeps Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Bond films are always good to see. If Activision do publish a movie tie-in, I hope Bizarre Creations get to make it (though I'm not sure they will want to do another). 007 Bloodstone is a fantastic game.
Daft Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Tom Hardy is too good for James Bond. This is good news, though. I am pleased.

Bond 23 to Get Video Game Tie-in Bond 23's confirmation brings with it the unsurprising news that a tie-in game is being primed to accompany the film's release. Deadline reports that a game has been given the go-ahead – and it could well be the title that Raven Software is seemingly working on. Bond's enjoyed some mixed video game outings of late, turning up in the critically lauded Goldeneye reboot and the less well received Blood Stone. Bond 23 has been slated for cinematic release on November 9 2012. Source - IGN
Jimbob Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 This is excellent news. Being a fan of the series, i was afraid that i would not see Bond return. Glad MGM have solved the money situation. Hopefully they havn't made too many cuts within. It would be terrible to see Bond not arrive in a new Aston (i know he drove a Lotus in a previous outing).

The Tommorow Never Dies car, whilst equipped with awesome gadgets, was a real shocker!
mcj metroid Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 With Daniel Craig as James Bond, quite easily! :p Yep everyone always gives the same reason. LET BROSNAN GO! I'm looking forward to this. I like me some bond but I didn't really take to QOS.
Coolness Bears Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Giant Meh. I will watch it though Quantum of Solace was lulzy. Casino Royale has grown on me but its still average.
Dannyboy-the-Dane Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Bond hasn't really been Bond since the over-the-top films with ridiculous gadgets, nonsensical plots, hilarious supervillains, etc. Especially the new Craig Bond is way too serious for his own good. The Bond films have turned into action films.
gaggle64 Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Glad to hear it - more Daniel Craig-Bond can only be a good thing. Quantum was slightly disappointing but Casino was a superb reboot to the series. More poker-faced battles of wits and slightly less Bourne-esque shenanigans again please.
Aimless Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Old Bond movies were products of their time. I don't want to watch lecherous men making single entendres in front of comic book villains any more. The Daniel Craig reboot was exactly what the series needed.
Dannyboy-the-Dane Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 I just can't help but feel the Bond franchise is turning into a generic action film series.

I don't want to watch lecherous men making single entendres in front of comic book villains any more. The Daniel Craig reboot was exactly what the series needed. They're also, if I might add, quite shit.
Daft Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 I only actually like Goldeneye and Casino Royale...and maybe You Only Live Twice.
Dan_Dare Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 The Living Daylights was also good. I think. Been a long time since I saw it but it was always the darkest of the series.
Jimbob Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 He drove a couple of BMW's during the Brosnan era! The Tommorow Never Dies car, whilst equipped with awesome gadgets, was a real shocker! Why did i forget the Brosnan era. Yes, Goldeneye started with an Aston and ended with a BMW. I'm shaking my head at my own dissapointment. The Living Daylights was also good. I think. Been a long time since I saw it but it was always the darkest of the series. License to Kill is a darker Bond than Living Daylights, in my opinion.
jayseven Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 I think the 'reboot' of bond was totally adequate and utterly called for. The problem lies in the archetypal Bond; invincible jack-of-all-trades, super-sleuth and world-saver. his modus operandi is to always win when the bets are big and the odds against him. The matter is in just how many times can one agent repeatedly find himself in the same death-defying situation always and forever! From an audience's point of view, we know more than he does. We know he wins, we know he gets the girl, and we know he kicks ass along the way. Suspense is nonsense, so truly we are left with a desire for epic! I think the action-orientated direction is the only easy way forward for the franchise. If there was, say, some focus on the other 00 agents and perhaps a comparison/contrast of the calibre then we could see an expanded universe unfold, which could allow for subtleties in plot and narrative. With the reboot we are left with the entire retconned canon at our disposal. Minutae currently unexplored; Q, his wedding (vaguely done, so maybe scratch that), Trevelyan and, as I said, other 00 agents. But such an exploration would come at the cost of 007 screen-time and I guess that's simply not what's called for. Bourne showed us how espionage could be done differently, and heck we have Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy to look foward to this year. Perhaps the espionage genre is... done?
Dannyboy-the-Dane Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 You may be right that it was the only way forward for the franchise. I'm just afraid they're moving further and further away from what Bond was and stood for.
