PlayStation 3 Console Discussion

Recommended Posts

@Andyliini ironically FFXIII also appears on the PS3 and in HD (the 360 version isn't). I've never heard anyone say that the 360 has better exclusives than the PS3, it sounds to me like you haven't really put any thought into what games to buy and are suffering the consequences.

The Wii is a pretty shocking console with relatively few really good games. I really don't know how you found 20 to be honest.

Yes, I am fully aware that FFXIII is also on PS3. Actually, I first played that game on the PS3 as I borrowed it from my friend, but got it later for 360 for I found it cheap. Personally, I didn't find staggering difference in graphical quality between the two versions.

And to say I haven't done my research, I beg to differ. I follow video game news on a daily basis, and read about every big-time game there is. To say about exclusives, I don't have them that much for either console. For PS3 I have MGS4, MAG, Killzone 3 and Rachet and Clank -game, whose name I forgot as exclusives, but R&C I got for free, Killzone and MAG were dirt cheap games, and I bought them knowing I would probably never play them. MGS4 on the other hand... I must rise a flame shield now, but I hated that game.

On 360, I have Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey as retail exclusives, and those two are already better that all my PS3 games together. Of course, this is just my opinion. Maybe it's my taste in gaming, but to note that I am very Japan-centric gamer, and mostly only enjoy Japanese games, it might come as a shock, but 360 has offered better games than PS3.

I could also list my Wii games, just for fun I would like to see if I really have that 20:

Wii Sports

Wii Sports Resort

Wii Play

Wii Fit

Wii Fit Plus

Wii Music

Xenoblade Chronicles

The Last Story

Pandora's Tower

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Castlevania Judgment

Disney Epic Mickey

Project Zero 2: Wii Edition

Dead Rising: Chop till you Drop (gonna get rid of this soon!)

Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles

Madworld

Sin & Punishment: Successor of the Skies

Red Steel 2

Donkey Kong Country Returns

Metroid Prime Trilogy

Metroid: Other M

I think that's all of them. There's 21, most of them being exclusives. There are good games, many people just tend to overlook them.

We had so many suggestions for our Top 25 that we had to increase it to 50.

MGS4 on the other hand... I must rise a flame shield now, but I hated that game.

After an hour I still had no idea how any of the game mechanics work, so I gave up.

The two InFamous and three Uncharted games are some of the best this generation, and those alone more than justify the PS3.

Eledees is the best Wii game in existence.

Lower flame shield, MGS4 could definitely be justified as ass. I enjoyed it but it was missing a certain...je ne sais quoi...oh, yeah, I remember, it was missing half of a game.

You're missing three Uncharted games and 2 Infamous games. And God of War. And Journey, Flower, WipeOut and Super Stardust HD, and all the other PSN exclusive games. And Resistance 3 (ignore the first two). And Heavy Rain and pretty much evey other exclusive worth owning.

Bar Ratchet and Clank, you have genuinely invested in the worst exclusives. Though you avoided Lair and Haze so kudos there, I guess.

You definietly wasted money buying a PS3 if you aren't going to pick up those games.

And LittleBIGPlanet.

Arguably set the PS3 back a couple years, too.

...Along with all the other horrendous decisions Sony made.

I'm sorry but the vast majority of those Wii games are pretty mediocre, or hardly great.

The only 'amazing' game on that list is Xenoblade Chronicles. Metroid was great on the cube but 3 wasn't really amazing, and Skyward Sword was another rehash of content that doesn't match up to previous Zeldas. Kinda odd you neglected Mario Galaxy.

I know you're saying you've researched your exclusives but I really don't think the selection you put forward for PS3 was even that good (bar MGS4). Also you should consider the absolutely massive number of games that appear on both 360 and PS3 that don't appear on Wii. That's a huge reason to have a dislike for the Wii. Lack of big-hitter titles or delays in making a gimped down version for the Wii.

Surprised this site is still going, seeing as it's probably been three years since my last visit .

Just been browsing this thread and a little surprised by Andyliini's comments regarding exclusives on the various platforms, but each to their own. After all, we all have different preferences regarding games and I'm not going to start getting into 'THAT' which console debate.

Personally, in my time away from this place, I subsequently got bored with the Wii so ended up going temporarily down the Wii360 path until I just dumped the Wii altogether. This was back when the 360 still offered exclusives that interested me, sadly those days have since passed and that console has now also bitten the dust, I really need to update my console information should I decide to stick around here.

Just after E3 last year, I finally took the plunge for a PS3 and TBH, I haven't looked back in the slightest. The exclusives on the console are of much more interest to me and I don't think I've spent as much time gaming over there last 7 months than I have done previously. There's still plenty more over the coming year for me to look forward to, but again, that's just my preference.

As I said, I know I bought those games only because they were cheap. The Killzone 3 was the Helhghast Edition I got for 16€, and I just couldn't resist. I always knew I probably wouldn't play it, but maybe I will one day if this great flood of good games will ever stop.

And what you know, I just bought a PS3 game today, once again, for it was cheap. I got House of the Dead: Overkill Direcor's Cut for 9.90€, which is bargain. I probably won't play it until I get myself a Move, as Dual Analog for me is a nightmare to use on FPS-games.

As for those games people mentioned, no. I'm not interested in those. Yes, I haven't played Uncharted games, but my friend (who is a Sony player mostly) told me that those games are tubelike corridors, with very little exploration in it. Doesn't sound like something I would like for an action game. God of War, again, no. I could beat Lords of Shadow because I love Castlevania (that was NOT a true Castlevania BTW), as as they say, it plays pretty much like GoW. As it has no Castlevania aspect to push it, I have no interest in it. For the rest, I have barely heard of them.

The only 'amazing' game on that list is Xenoblade Chronicles. Metroid was great on the cube but 3 wasn't really amazing, and Skyward Sword was another rehash of content that doesn't match up to previous Zeldas. Kinda odd you neglected Mario Galaxy.

Now this just... the heck? Saying that Xenoblade Chronicles is the only amazing game in this list makes me want to rip my hair out (and considering I've been growing it for 6 years now, it's quite a feat). Really, DKCR is one of the most acclaimed games of this list and you ignore it. And stating your opinion on Skyward Sword as a fact is something I would expect to see on GameFAQs board. I like most of those games, have finished most of them, an there's not a single game on the list I regret buying, bar Dead Rising.

As for Mario Galaxy, I know. I've been planning on them for a long time now, but haven't found local versions of them for a good price. I'll get them one day, though, that is a fact. Hopefully I have more time to play my games, too much to play, too little time to do it.

But enough of this off-topic. I'll let my case rest in peace.

Personally, I don't think HotD is worth €50-€60 (as there isn't much else to use Move for, and it's pretty expensive).

Also, mentioning DKCR, Mario Galaxy and Skyward Sword (all fairly linear games) while complaining about Uncharted being linear (which suits being linear, unlike Zelda and Mario) is a bit wrong.

I'm likewise - I ignore game suggestions if I haven't heard of the game beforehand. The suggested game might as well not exist frankly!

I think this makes me a clever man.

PS3 has no games.......

really? if this was the start of the last gen then maybe, after i bought my PS3 with MGS4 (which is a game composing of 30% game play 60% cut scenes and 10% loading one or the other, the game is good just not enough of it) it must have been a year? maybe more before i bought another game for it, as multiplatform were cheaper on the 360, and at the time it had exclusives worth playing.

Fast forward now and the last 360 game i bought was Skyrim, well i say "I" bought but it was a present for christmas, the last one before that would Arkham City.

However now my PS3 is my most used console, i've traded in most 360 games bar the odd exclusive, or game that works better on it (skyrim) but that might be rectified soon..

I don't understand the ps3 has no games argument now really..... well unless the £3-4 saving on a game's price at retail *cough*GAME/HMV*cough is that important

Start of the last gen i'd have ranked it (best) 360>DS>Wii---->psp-------------->ps3 (worst),

Now switch PS3 for 360! seriously the 360 has no exclusives actually worth keeping a console for, and Live has become like a porn site with how many adds it has, its an absolute joke how small your game is compared to the revolving adds on the same screen

This Gen i'm probably going to avoid MS alltogether unless they pull a rabbit out of a hat and have a must have exclusive, which even then will only be obtained by Bill Gates flying on a jet pack to a developers studio and showing money on the for 40 days and nights

All Microsoft need to do is to let Rare make their own games with their own amazing franchises instead of forcing them to do Kinect rubbish. They're sitting on a goldmine of franchises.

What the hell, you said you researched your games but now you're saying you just buy any cheap old tat? Tbh most PS3 games are under £20 anyway, I recommend just digging deeper and buy the actually good games and not the mediocre. The games you listed are certainly not the A* stellar titles of the system so I'm somewhat doubting your research...

It is though. The rest are mediocre with the odd decent. Skyward Sword is not anywhere near as good as, say, Majora's Mask, Ocarina of Time or Wind Waker. It is simply not.

Except this is a dream since the Rare of now is not the Rare of old. Get someone else to make those franchises.

Nintendo should just make new instantly classic franchises.

I think that's a perfectly unreasonable expectation from me.

On a serious note, Nintendo really do desperately need to diversify.

I just don't think Nintendo have it in them to create a number of the genres they're missing though.

For that reason I think it would be good for them to take over some of Rare's IP's, as they've already done the hard job of creating the property in the first place.

For the vast majority of their 1st party games Nintendo probably use a series of drop down boxes to change the villain, serious threat to the planet or player, trivial powerup, annoying tacked on control method and (in the case of Zelda) gimmick transportation method.

It's pure cookie cutter conserved, uninspired wheeze. They know it will make money, idiots will buy it. Endless first party game after first party game with the vast majority kept the same. Nintendo made some really great games but now they're just soulless basdtards churning out profitable garbage on their shitty, cheap consoles.

Even MORE utterly strange is that he said he really liked FFXIII! This is without doubt one of the most 'corridor' games in history, it was universally slated for this very reason. You spend a huge amount of the game walking down set paths with no veering off the course.
