Ramar Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 Yesterday me and my friend thought we'd go see the new Mr Bean movie, and I almost ****ing died at the prices. In Luton we have a crappy Cineworld cinema, the only cinema in town. The price to go see a film on a regular day before 6pm for an adult is £7.10. Luckily I had my student card so it was £5.40. Which in my opinion is a complete rip off. Next comes the popcorn, you could probably get a bag of butterkist from your local grocery store for about £1. For a regular popcorn and regular drink it set me back £6.10. Apparently this was a bargain deal, if had brought them seperately I think the total cost would be £7.40. To me this is disgusting. As a kid I use to go a small cinema before it closed because of Cineworld. A ticket was £2.50 a child, £3.50 an adult. Popcorn was only a pound or two. Cineworld use to keep with these prices but once it squeezed the life out of the poor little cinema its been monopolizing (sp?) the town and upping prices. I can now see why some many people resort to illegally obtaining films, its outrageous.
Letty Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 There isnt a cinema here... I have to wait till I go to the main uk, and then its a treat
Monopolyman Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 I'm OK with my local cinema (Vue). That's because on Tuesdays ticket are only £4, and £2.50 if you have a coupon which they give you every time you buy a ticket; and I get Tuesday afternoons off and so take advantage of this, so going to the movies is as cheap as shit to me. But yeah, cinemas usually so fuck you in the ass.
Guest Stefkov Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 The prices are very irritating. However in the past 6 months I think I've only been to the cinema once, and that was for 300 a couple weeks ago.
Sarka Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 There isnt a cinema here... I have to wait till I go to the main uk, and then its a treat The Garrison is kinda a cinema. Every months we have about 4 films that come up. Adult tickets are a fiver and kids are £3.50. Not bad, and the snacks don't include popcorn - just kitkats and the like.
Fierce_LiNk Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 I can now see why some many people resort to illegally obtaining films, its outrageous. I completely agree with you. Add to the fact that we sometimes have to wait a while after a film gets released in another country before we can see it here (see, it's not just games), is it any wonder piracy is on the up. I also went to see the Mr.Bean film, and it cost me an arm and a leg. I had a single drink, a j20, which cost me £2.50... There's a reason I don't go to the cinema often.
Platty Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 My nearest cinema at Greenwich is £8 and I think Bluewater (the next nearest) is more or less the same. Other than that Leicester square is like £15. Seats are good, cinema is good but £15 jesus. *There is a more local cinema in Bexleyheath but its a crappy cineworld and is just a mess. sticky floors, ripped chairs, strange smells, havent been there for years.
harribo Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penistone_Paramount_Cinema http://www.penistoneparamount.co.uk/index.asp My local cinema. Its like £2.50 a ticket or summat like that, still has an interval half way through but it has a small screen with poor picture and sound quality, compared to Cineworld, Odean etc as well as shitty seating. Personally I'd rather see a movie at the extra price in a decent sized cinema and get the cinema experience.
ShadowV7 Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 When I went a couple of weeks ago it was round about £6 odd for a ticket and for 2 small drinks,2 hot dogs and a regular pop-corn costed like £14. Expensive stuff if you go often. That's why I only go to the movies on dates, and completely agree with you in saying that's why people download them. And with the cinemas near me you have to buy your stuff their unless you can sneak your own grub in
Cube Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 I saw Casino Royale in Jan at Cineworld (Llandudno Junction) in the Deluxe screen, Thursday evening, £5.50ish...did't seem that bad. And you just take your own food/drink in...

I saw Blood Diamond, which is a brilliant film, for £2.60! OK, that may not be quite right but that's what I remember it as, I'll have to check. But still, go on Tuesdays! Oh, and don't bother buying anything other than tickets at cinemas. Unless, of course, you wipe your arse with £20 notes...
triforcemario Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 Fortunatly, my local cinema only costs around 6 euros for one (same price for both children and adults), but popcorn is rather expensive, so I don't usually bother with it.
Ramar Posted April 2, 2007 Author Posted April 2, 2007 There's a reason I don't go to the cinema often. Indeed, since 2004 I've been to the cinema only 9 times (I know this because I've kept the stubs in my wallet since then). My main concern is in the coming months there is a few films I want to see, but for the price I have to pay for entry, some may have to wait.
Blackfox Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 Costs me £4 with a student card up in Hull, or about £6 here in Manchester. As for buying food there- just take some with you, they can't search you at all. And if they get shitty they can only refuse you admission - and then they have to refund you... Once we went to the cinema and my mate bought £6 of pick and mix. I spent a quid at Asda and got more...
Demuwan Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 I saw Casino Royale in Jan at Cineworld (Llandudno Junction) in the Deluxe screen, Thursday evening, £5.50ish...did't seem that bad. And you just take your own food/drink in... You can;t do that where I live (Kent). I had to sneak my KFC in under my jacket (got a few dodgy looks:heh: ) when I went to see 300 (last time I went before this was probably 5 years ago). otherwise I wouldn't have been allowed. Cost me £7.50 what a rip. Thats why I always download:awesome:
rokhed00 Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 Most I pay is £5.70 at my local Odeon. I bring my own beer and snacks, fuck paying for cinema food.
Cube Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 One thing about cinemas I do want to moan about: They still tend to use rubbish film projectors, with flickers, holes and stuff. Perhaps I'm just spoilt by my HD projector at home.
ShadowV7 Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 I remember one time I had a small and thing bag with a NOM in it like 5 years ago (seeing Atlantis) and they actually took it off me incase I had food and drink in it.And this was a realy thin bag and I had to ick it up again on the way out.
The fish Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 I bring my own snacks, fuck paying cinema foos. QFT Girl's handbags do have a use after all, it seems...
Marshmellow Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 No Cinemas where I live, but if there was I'm sure the prices would horribly outrageous... When I went into Anchorage with my Family it cost like $23 for all of us to go see "We Are Marshall" without any snacks.
rokhed00 Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 QFTGirl's handbags do have a use after all, it seems... They haven't made a handbag big enough to hold the beer and snacks I need to get through even the shortest film. Carrier bag does me, they don't say anything even with beer obviously in my possession.
conzer16 Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 I pay about €8/9 with a student card in my local cinema. Absolute rip-off. Onl been once since September. Imported thai dvds FTMFW! (I love ftw latey!)
