Er what?..........

Most of us are over the age limit. We are just annoyed that we are not even giving the choice.

farenheit only got a 15 here yet it got an AO in US. Guessing because of the sex scene towards the end...guessing also thats the only reason San Andreas (the only GTA to carry one) has an AO cos its sexual references and girlfriend mechanic

GTA:SA got AO because it had a "Hot Coffee" section that Rockstar didn't delete of the disk properly - you needed an action replay-type device and code from the internet to access it.

yeah thats the norm for america, an AO is only really used for sexual content, M covers violence, worth pointing out manhunt 2 does apparently have scenes of a sexual nature...

GTA:SA only got the AO because of the hot coffee mod, once Rock Star removed the code it went back to it's M rating. So yes AO for GTA:SA was only there because of the "sex" proving that in america it's okay for a 15 year old to simulate beating a hooker to death with a dildo. But not okay for them to see CJ having sex with his clothes on.

I'm talking maturity, not age, and I'm not talking about anyone in particular.

I've read the BBFC's statement and it all seems pretty reasonable to me.

Well no 'regret to' email from sendit.com today either.

I would have thought the only thing that can stop the the game is some problem with the PAL distributor, or some serious intervention by UK law.

Things are looking pretty groovy atm in respect of this game being in my collection on release day.

Yes what they have said is very true most people here have never played manhunt 2 i know this when i hear comments like It's not as bad as gta or they might ban resident evil 4 next.

The first was worse than anything ever and the second is supposed to be even worse. I would not mind if it was a worldwide ban BUT it feels annoying to have different treatment from the US of all places and especially even some countries in Europe itself.

What makes us more stupid than the french and for gods sake the americans.

I Don't think a death in Ireland has ever being blames on computer games, not sure about Britain.

I wouldn't count on the game being released on Wii, at all, anywhere in the world.

I just read on Nsider that Nintendo will apparently announce in a few days that they have refused Take Two their license to release the game on the Wii.

Isn't that your personal view on censorship though? I don't have a problem with it being uncertificated but banning it is an insult to the intelligence of every adult in the country.

I'm sure you will agree that, while adults should have a certain amount of freedom and choice, a line has to be drawn somewhere in regard to content in entertainment media. Where would you draw it? Rape? Torture? Child abuse? Racism? Are these acceptable?

A game like Killer7 has themes such as those, but you don't see children actually getting abused, etc. Nevertheless, it's a violent game.

Still, it seems like there's one rule for film, but a totally different one for gaming.

Videogames are a different medium, they should be treated as such.

But, how so? In what ways should they be treated differently?

Different levels of interaction and involvement, and the moral implications of this.

Video games are the most interactive form of media and other than other media they promote the actions required to complete the video game. Games are more real than film.

To a certain extent I understand this banning even.

The reason why moveis containing those themes are banned is more to with the fact that financially supporting such media inspires the film makers to perform acts which are illegal. Also I'm pretty sure that these have to be real depictions of those action as it would make for the reason why all the Saw movies never got banned or any movie with rape in it.

Computer games do not use real people. The game, from what I have read, aims for the player to experience the nature of psychosis, a very powerful notion that I don't think any other media could convey in such a way. I enjoy dark films and i do find some of the themes touched on in horror movies intriguing. I have been playing Condemned:Criminal Origins and that has very dark, disturbing themes. You are constantly bludgening people to death with anything you can find but that is integral to the game and its theme. I had to rip a guy's jaw clean off today! But I can step away from it. No one got hurt and I won't go hurting anyone due to playing that game. I don't see any reason why that game is different from any movie.

I do see what you're saying. But, nowadays, the industry seems to be striving towards realism, and you'll not only find the usual realistic graphics, sound and physics, but games are now addressing real-life issues. Killer7, for example, includes themes of terrorism, rape, abuse, mental instability, and the ongoing theme of violence.

We've been subject to themes like this in film for many years, but slowly over the years we're finding more "disturbing" games. Games which are trying to act like "interactive movies." But, these games ain't for everyone, and just like their film counterparts, they're aimed at a specific audience. Fans of Fight Club may love Killer7, for example, as they actually share a few similarities. The multiple personas/mental instability being one of them.

It depends where you stand with the whole "playing violent games makes you a violent person" argument. Personally, I've played a few violent games down the years, some I have liked, many that I have disliked, and on the whole I have formed my own opinion on them. Thing is, now many people won't be able to form their own opinion on Manhunt 2, as the game has been banned. From the off, I think it was obvious that this game isn't aimed at children, or young teenagers. It's definitely an adult game, and if that wasn't obvious, then the BBFC should have made it obvious by giving it a mature rating or something. Banning it completely is just lowering the gamer's choice, the same gamer who might enjoy violent films, books with dark storylines, etc.

I saw a few trailers of this today and they were....disturbing to say the least.

Did I feel uncomfortable? Yeah, a fair bit if Im being honest. But I think that the real crime here is the fact that there are no laws in place for the sale of such products, so that if it cant be awarded an 18 certificate then it must be banned. After all if the country is willing to sell drugs (cigarettes and alcohol) freely to those of age, then things like this should be subject to extreme laws, but allowing consumers to choose.

If Im being honest I wouldnt buy this game, but all the hype means I want to see for myself what has actually been banned.

I remember a while back an interview with the head of IFCO and he seemed really relaxed, a fair decent bloke being honest. I must question whether once again the Irish people are suffering because of the British decision, I find it hard to believe Ireland had any other reason to ban it (well apart from the obvious) other than Britain did.

Ive been thinking, that if a movie displayed actual events of torture and pain, it would also be banned from the shelves.

Isn't that the whole "Horror Porn" (or whatever it was dubbed, can't remember) movement about? Saw, Hostel, Paradise Lost and all those.
