EMP matrix stylee! I didn't really mention it as a serious suggestion, I saw some thing on TV once where they were talking about how devastating an EMP would be as some sort of weapon, they got a room and basically did it to a computer, the thing wouldn't boot at all, completely buggered up. I dunno how you'd really go about making one, but getting a magnet and proper molesting up your hard drive with it should help wipe it I imagine. Would waving a magnet around it do a good job of making data on it unrecoverable?

If you could be a fruit what fruit would you be?
Rummy replied to Coolness Bears's topic in General Chit Chat
Seconded, all of it. Orange is the way forwards my friend! Though the question is, which came first, the colour or the fruit??? Second option would be a mango, cos it's so sweet and delicious and mmmmmmm. -
They probably were worried due to the fact it may have been the proceeds of crime, as mentioned(well, the act) in the original post. Admittedly, if it happened to me, I'd spend that money until the police pulled me up on it, THEN tell them where I got it.

Does this mean you have to keep it in classic view though? It was something I'd noticed, and was immensely pissed off with, it's like things are moving backwards, not forwards!

I saw a thing about hard drives on BBC once, quite shocking stuff. Alot of trashed hard drives end up in nigeria and get scimmed proper for data and that, it was unbelievable the sorts of details they were getting from them about people. FORMATTING THE HARD DRIVE IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Apparently. I don't know the technical sides of it, but I imagine formatting it just makes it believe everything is writeable/blank space, however there's still an imprint of the data there until it is actually physically re-written. Like when you delete something off the hard drive on your computer, even from the recycle bin, the data should still exist there until the sector is actually written over like. I'd suggest breaking the shit out of it, or hitting it with some massive magnetic pulse(hard drives read/write magnetically, right?). I'd say to be 100% sure it's broken enough too. Another suggestion, though I dunno if it would work, would be something like a factory restore. How alot of pre-installed computers come these days, with OS and software already installed, and a restore disc with an image of the harddrive. I dunno how much of the harddrive those actually re-write, they might completely restore it to original condition. I remember the BBC documentary saying you could get software that would overwrite the hard drive like. I guess another option that would theoretically work, is clearing the hard drive completely, then filling it up completely with new data like? Again, I don't know alot about how they work.

Are you for real? Seriously?! Congrats man!!!

Well, the next book is out soon of course, and the actors are like...17-19 at the moment? I imagine filming has begun on HBP in order to get through it in time so they aren't actually 30 by the end of it, I reckon the films'll be finished and out by like 2008/2009 time if they properly worked non stop on them like, by which time they'll be about 20-22, so it's doable if they can make them appear younger. How old are they supposed to be in each of the books? It's like 11-18 isn't it?

I thought it was more in the style of Lost, though I haven't really seen very much of Lost to pass judgement, but it's all rather mysterious like. Razza, I must have missed that guy you mentioned in the spoiler, I don't remember anything of the sort! I was well confused by them talking about how Beautiful that girl was though.

To kill him, or not to kill him? He may have been begging him to do something else, it doesn't actually say if I remember rightly. I was thinking he may have been begging him to do something like help Harry, or...well, I dunno, I haven't really thought it through. I'm not saying Dumbledore's gonna be a big thing in the next book, but I think she'll have him feature in some way other than just through portraits/paintings/pictures, whatever the things in the office are.
-
Apparently not, though as I said I'm averse to spoilers I won't say much(go wiki the book). Rowling has hinted at some things, and that thing about Death being the next great adventure is mentioned by Dumbledore in book 1. Near the end with harry in the hospital wing. Sometimes I get the feeling that man knows, like...everything. I wonder if he has travelled through time, if he can See, or what, everything seems to go his way, he knows what's going on, I think he watches Harry very closely(well, did, before his demise). I was surprised how well his plan to save Sirius in book 3 worked, almost as if he already knew it would sort of thing. It was like he knew everything about that night before that night. EDIT: I meant apparently not on the End of Story front, not on them being not dead or dead, as it were.

I haven't read this thread, I request that supposed spoilers(not personal speculation though) be dealt with very harshly in this thread, and noted in the first post. As for the book, I'm getting revved for it, reading through the series again for a freshen up and to develop my (numerous) conspiricy theories and general theories. I think Dumbledore IS dead, but both him and sirius will make some form of appearance, after all, Death is but the next great adventure!

I watched it, and I'm watching E4 now for the next episode, I came here because I have a question about it. What...the fuck? so, they're all in some village, appears to be a witness protection village but, everyone must be ex criminals? main character is there with wife and like teenage twins(brother and siter), the brother's a bit weird, the girl's got some spark with the town's handyman who seems a bit sex crazed who runs to the main character's house to find his daughter because apparently she's his last hope or something, finds her in her room, only it's her brother dressed up like her, and because the brother is scared his starts to beat him up and tries to rape him then the dad comes home(who's been running away from some other guy) strangles this guy in front of his son but, it's like half the fucking story is missing, it's acting like these are all normal things that happen every day, and have a perfectly logical and obvious reason, so obvious we should know because they clearly arent letting anything slip? I am thoroughly confused.

lol, I'll get to killing Norton soon(i've only just read that post, not been on N-E for a few days). I actually turned off the automatic liveupdate feature and the bitch still randomly opens its liveupdate apps, so it solved nothing. How does avast! compared to NOD32? I used to have avast! on my other laptop before it monged out, and never encountered any real problems. I'll look into NOD a bit more tomorrow when I have some more time, thanks for all your help Nuke, it's much appreciated!

Haha, you people snuffed at AOL once but I am having no issues of the sort! Well, not yet anyway, get me some nice 150kB/s transfer rates in utorrent, but that was only after I set up the port forwarding on my router, which took me a while to do and figure out, and I'm still not entirely sure how I did it. I think I found a guide through uTorrent itself though, but it seems you're not having a problem with that. Have you asked anyone else you know with the same ISP/package?

Changing programs because of recent events
Rummy replied to EEVILMURRAY's topic in General Chit Chat
Hahahah, I did exactly the same as Flink! Only, I didn't realise it was cliffhanger because I'd never seen cliffhanger before. I didn't know they'd changed the programming because of recent events, what a fucking joke. I'm sposed to be going up london tonight for my mate's early birthday celebration, but some of his friends are being shit and not coming because of all this bomb shit in london. THEY DIDN'T EVEN GO OFF! Not to mention we went up london for his birthday friday after the original 7/7(which is his birthday) and managed to come back in one piece, and that was much more devastating. I HATE PEOPLE. -
Not so much a picture of me, but I finally got round to taking a huge picture of my pint glass collection, with the occasional half pint glass too;

Well I tried the java re-install and it didn't work, so I started looking at the processes and couldn't work out what it was. Obviously the CPU counts move too fast for me to add up and check either. I took a couple pictures of it as soon as I could, but then I noticed the 'show processes from all users' button, I don't remember seeing that in XP. I clicked it, and at first thought it was the system idle process until I saw the desc. of that, so I couldn't figure that one out. Then suddenly another process popped to the top of the list, and I should have fucking known. It's fucking norton liveupdate, as soon as my free 90 days run out I'm getting this shit off here, stupid bloody norton. Thing's opened itself about 5 times already today, how many times does it want to look for updates?!? However, it doesn't explain the other problem, of IE half responding, not opening new windows, right click menus not appearing, and new apps not opening until IE is ended(well, they will open according to task manager, but they don't actually appear anywhere other than there).

I had tonsilitis once(possibly twice?) but I think other than that I've been pretty cool on the -itis front. Pretty weird you talking about this, I was reading about the uvula the other day(never knew its proper name, always wondered) and how it could swell up like tonsils, and I thought 'wow, never heard of that happening'. Until now. How's it feeling anyway, getting better? Seen a doctor?

Right, some of you may know I have a new laptop as of a few weeks ago. Something is really annoying me however, I know it's gonna seem basic but it shouldn't be happening anyway. First, my laptop's specs can be found here; http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/123116 I just copied and pasted that, the important stuff is there with some other stuff which I wasn't sure about. The 1GB of memory was made up of 2x512, and I bought an extra gig by Kingston(here) which meant I had to take a 512 out, and now it says that it has 1.37GB(1406MB) of RAM. 2.00GHz is the speed of the processor so it says. I also did a Windows Experience Index thingy, picture of that's results follows. Anyway, to the actual issue. As I said, it seems trivial, but basically I play Runescape. For those of you not aware, it's a Java based game not requiring much spec at all. High spec option is 128MB RAM and 500MHz CPU and low spec is 64MB and 300MHz. It's an MMORPG, and sometimes I get some serious lag on it, which can be quite hazardous in online stuff. I determined the problem is caused by my own computer, I opened task manager and found that whenever this lag occured, the CPU was being pushed to 100%. I couldn't understand why, I thought it might be Vista being too fancy, so I turned Vista back to the Win98 look hoping that might resolve things, it didn't. I thought maybe it was IE, as I've found another problem with it that is quite annoying. If I have IE open for a while, browsing the internet and using various tabs, I find that after a while right click menus don't appear if I try to open a link in a new tab it won't load. Also when this occurs, I find I am unable to open any new applications, unless I close IE first. Sometimes IE will close, but it hasn't really as the task is still running in task manager, and I must end it through there. So, I tried to use other browsers in case this was an IE caused problem(Maxthon and Firefox) yet I find the 100% CPU thing/lag still occurs! I can't understand why this is happening, it never ever happened on my older computers running XP(well, the CPU may have hit 100% at times, but it wouldn't affect Runscape). I have also done full virus scans and adware scans in the case of worms or malicious software but nothing's been found. So, what the hell is wrong with my computer? The thing is brand fucking new and I can't work it out! I thought for a while Vista might just be shit(I was gonna title this 'Is it just me or does Vista suck'), but having read the Vista thread it seems that it's not the case, I just seem to have a fucking annoying problem which as my language may show, really frustrates me! Serious thanks to anybody who can shed some light or help on the issue!!

Wow, didn't know they'd made a SNES port thingy to hook it up to the Wii, I'm tempted to buy one, though for that price I could probably fund a 'classic' controller instead, though my contempt for them makes me unwilling. Does anyone know anywhere you can get old SNES pads from? I still have my original one, but I'd like to get another one to use and keep my original one as alive as possible.
-
Yes, I still get very worried about how warm my wii is, especially considering it's supposed to be such low power consumption, what's making it so hot? sim1987, what is this fan stand you're talking about?
-
I am tempted by this, as I have longingly tried to find a Mario Party to match up to the standards of the original(MP4 didn't really cut it). I got an email and checked out the site, watched some trailers, however that really annoyed me. I hadn't actually realised, but it seems Nintendo are still totally faking up those people playing kind of adverts, as two different trailers had exactly the same game footage in them. I dunno why, but it annoys me.

I caught it from the bit where he was in the lion's den when I came home from work, looked a bit pants at first, but then it grew on me and now I want to see the next one to find out what's going on and who that mysterious woman was!

Ahh, I saw like the last 40 min of the omnibus, but that clears things up a bit more. It's like monday-wednesday I was more missing out on, I can't believe it. I can't believe clare is still alive neither! I found A website, it seems to have a very very brief summary of next week, and two weeks ago, but not in between grrr!
-
Noooooooooo! I missed the goddamn omnibus! Please please please can someone either sum up the week's events, or link me to somewhere that does?
