  1. That sounds like describing dragging windows, which isn't what I'm having trouble with, I'm trying to drag stuff between windows that are maximised. In XP I could drag whatever it is down to the task bar, hover over a window title on there, and the window would maximise, now the thing on the taskbar just flashes orange.
  2. So my new laptop's here, kind of nice, kind of annoying, first realising the issue with my RAM, but something really getting on my wick at the moment is the fact that I can't seem to drag between windows using the taskbar! Is there no way for me to be able to drag something from one window into another window by dragging it over the window on the taskbar and then the window opening for me to drop it in? All that happens now is the window I'm trying to drag into just flashes on the taskbar and that's it, it doesn't maximise or anything. (Also, dunno why but despite installing IZArc no sort of things related to it appear in the right click menu when I click files)
  3. This is strangely fantastic.
  4. Hmm, ok thanks, I'll have a look around for more info about it, checked some of my security so far, and it's apparently rather good! We'll see if it changes if I manage to sort out sharing everything.
  5. I don't play my wii much anymore, but when I do, I enjoy it but can't help notice little things that could be so simple and make things nicer, probably not hard to implement given the whole updateable OS system which appears to have been seriously neglected. Just some small things I've thought of along the way. Miis - Bit boring now, could do with some fresh stuff added. Something I've been thinking other than extra decorations and stuff is...emotions! They're simple little faces so why is there such little emotion from these guys? You see some in some games, but not alot in the mii channel or just generally when they're standing around in game. A side note of this is using miis as smileys in wiimail. For example, when you send a note to someone and you can select a Mii(though i was never sure if that was to show who it's from or to), you should then get an option to pick the mii's face in different emotions, to complement your letter! They could also be used throughout the letter as smileys, as I said. Gamecube Disc Channel - Why did they not make it so that when a GC disc is in, it shows a little logo for the game or something rather than just the GC logo? It's already there, so why couldn't it be done? Also annoying is the fact to exit a gamecube game you have to turn the wii off, which bugs me if I want to play another game or do something on the wii. You can't even use the wiimote for it either, so fat people such as myself have to actually walk over to it! Virtual Console Controls - I've mentioned this before, a number of times. Ok, it'd make their rather redundant and stupid 'classic' controller(i hate its entire existence) actually redundant, but what if, as crazy as this is gonna sound, they just add an option for button mapping for VC titles? So you can play with your GC controller, or even your CC, but with the buttons how YOU want them instead of what you're forced to have. Namely, this'd make SNES games easier to play without purchasing a stupid CC. The General Wii Screen - I dunno, make it a bit customizable! Let you have a background there which you could design yourself and take off an SD card, have different colours, different skins and layouts like too. Everybody has the same old boring looking Wii interface, it needs some colour, some more...me! Post any little things you would like to see, or little things that annoy you! I think I thought of some others what I've forgot. (I guess it's debatable what little is, but whatever, go for it!)
  6. I should imagine a simple 3.5mm(kind of headphones) stereo to stereo jack could be used to connect it to the AUX of your hifi, depending on the hifi(might need one of those enlarger thingies though). Alternatively, you can get a 3.5mm stereo to phono(like two plugs red and white, the kind you get on composite leads) which may be able to plug into your hifi. I don't actually know if I've called these by their correct names, so forgive me. Alternatively, there's this that I found with a quick google search, it involves some mutilation and teeny work on your part. http://www.zyra.org.uk/pc-ls2.htm My advice would be to run it through the hifi itself though, I imagine you'd get better sound, and you can also control the volume through there too. As for where you plug it in on the sound card, it's either the one the speakers are in, or line out, I think.
  7. I see, I thought it was possible with just a router, though I'm not sure what gave me that impression. I don't know if it has NAT, it's a D-Link DI-524, but I know that it has DHCP. Would you be able to elaborate on how I go about finding out if it does, and then setting the firewalls to allow windows file and printer sharing(like where it'd be, a setting in the firewall's configuration?)? EDIT:I think it does have NAT, after a bit of fishing on dlink's site.
  8. Nobody has set up their own network? Or is there a really obvious thread I've missed or something?
  9. He's right though, it's not. I mean, you're not racist but... To answer the original question, which I think I didn't, No. Having given it some though, considered my own situation and that of others, No. It isn't racist to be anti-immigration unless you are anti-immigration because you hate people who aren't english/british/where you're from. I see it as simple as that, am I wrong?
  10. It's not quite like other ciders though, in that it's a pear cider which probably had 3kg of sugar in it, but it tastes bloody nice mmmm! I am intrigued by these cans which I've never seen before, and slightly worried that I've heard of the Ikea thing before too, can anyone confirm on these two things? Need a location for kopparberg cans over here!
  11. Did you read the quote in the post you quoted? I feel like you totally missed the point of what he was saying, funny though, because it sort of helped his point in my eyes. It does make sense that people born here should have some more rights than those not, as the people born here are likely born from families who HAVE contributed to the country. However, this is not an alternative to immigrants being let in on a basis of whether they will drain or provide for the country overall, both things can exist at the same time surely?

    Drinking

I typed half of this at 6, but had to go out, so i post now, it's long, skip to conclusion for the short version Again, rokhed has a bloody good point, the tax on alcohol more than pays for itself I think, at least in terms of drunks in a hospital, which I'll come onto later. As usual, I left my own opinions out of the first post(this post may turn out long btw), I am split on a number of issues. Underage drinking? Basically what Moria said, the day before turning 18 and the day after, there's no real different except a day has passed. However, there does of course need to be some sort of age limit, and underage drinking comes with the territory of such a limit. I think a part of the underage drinking is caused by the age limit, either people doing it for the rush of being a rebel or just rebelling and trying to be hard or whatever, you tell anyone not to do something and they'll get a slightly bigger urge to do that. It's kind of why I agree with 'encourage kids from an early age'. Not encourage as such, but familiarise them. Admittedly however, it was always about as I was growing up, and I had the odd glass here and there, but it was of a sort slightly forbidden, and in my case didn't discourage me from underage drinking or thinking it was a big deal. Maybe my family didn't realise that they still gave the impression of 'don't do this', which in most circumstances you'll almost really really want to do, whenever your parents aren't looking. Thats a point I want to come onto, if it's gonna be around growing up, there has to be less 'dont do it!' sort of surrounding it. I can actually understand why too now, having just turned 20, I think back to my days as an underage drinker and a legal drinker. I probably started drinking at about 14/15 sort of time, though not regularly, and whenever I did it would be at hall parties and stuff(nipping off to find an off licence that'd serve someone, usually the girls). I started at a kind of young age for drinking when I look back, despite what everyone says and how you shouldn't do it, now when I look back I think it wasn't good really. Why did I do it? Because I though I knew better, and I know now that I didn't. Funny, because people older than me at the time thought the same, and it makes me think what right do I have to dissapprove of kids doing EXACTLY what I did? We can tell them they're wrong, and not to do it, but they'll think they know better and that things are different and do it anyway. Of course, whilst regretting it, I also don't, as I had some good times and I'm the person that I am today. Yeah sure, we drank on the street, sometimes spilling over from parties and whatnot, and indeed I once like a tit drank too much too fast on the street and ended up in hospital around the age of 15/16. Did it change the way I thought about drink? A little, and it put me off some spirits for a while, made me try to be more sensible etc. Did it stop me drinking? No. Really, it didn't even make me that sensible, it just stopped me getting so fucked I'd end up in hospital, though that may be due to chance and circumstance. I've done some pretty fucking stupid things when wasted since, I've been a terrible angry aggressive drunk, but I've also been a nice drunk too. It's been a while since I was a bad drunk, I think, though I sometimes know he's there under the surface when I'm drunk. In Short All in all, I think alcohol is kind of silly in its existence, but it's a part of me and our society, a part that will not be removed easily. I drank underage partly cos it wasn't allowed, I did stupid things, I both regretful for alcohol and glad for alcohol. I don't think I could never have alcohol again or have that restriction imposed upon me, but I have respect for the people who abstain, either with or without trying it(though, i believe everyone should try things once). Who am I to criticise and dissapprove of people for doing the exact things I did as an adolescent? I feel if it's forbidden to people growing up, I believe it increases underage drinking. The stigma of alcohol sort of being 'strictly for adults only' needs to be reduced, and also other issues need to be dealt with. Alot of people think underage drinking is bad and disruptive, but I managed to do it without being a public nuisance or hassling any random people, so why can't the youth of today? Got some sauce to go with that? Only I trust another secondary source more that said smoking at least provides more for the NHS than it costs, dunno about the alcohol side admittedly.
  13. Woah, that's fucking crazy. Screw hard drives eh? It'll be a while until they're cheap though, but it's good thinking to have a universal standard with huge capacity! This mean's they'll work through any SD/MMC reader, right? Of course, I imagine transfer speeds will become an issue at some point, and the fact they're SUPER EASY TO LOSE. I guess the only other issue now, is hardware not capable of like >4GB flash memory?
  14. Surely a good old bit of XP system restore would fix anything like such up a treat? Try it anyway first, as it's completely reversible. Start -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore. Go back to a date before you decided to dick around in your computer like a silly man. What were you doing, and didn't what was telling you what to do tell you NOT to do it, or to at least back it up?

    Smoking

Yeah I know why you said it, my point is, even technically, it wouldn't count as manslaughter would it? I'm fairly sure the law on manslaughter has some slight further constraints than that simple little definition. In fact, I specifically added the word significant to my post to point that out. We got any law specialists here? Trying to get back on point, other than rokhed and a few others, I don't recall having actually read much opinion from smokers on the ban, as opposed to be arguing in favour and against smoking. It's their opinions I'm most interested in. Also, tax on cigarettes actually brings more in for the NHS than smoking related stuff takes out, so don't go using that argument here. I don't have a source to hand, but it was on The Wright Stuff the other morning, and I'm fairly sure they had a reputable source for it. For some of you, I cringe reading your posts, you seem to make an argument for one side, but totally disagree when it's completely turned around from the other point of view, effectively making you hypocrites. Sort it out.
  16. I've never seen it in cans either! Second, when did you change your name? Third, when did you become a mod? Fourth, you can buy the pear(clearly superiorest) ones in sainsburys for like a little less than what you would in a pub, like £1.50 each?. I'm talking in cheap places though, like wetherspoons.

    Smoking

You'd think that, but for some reason I've been thinking along the same lines as rokhed, that some tit IS gonna call the police on someone for smoking in the street, or at a bus stop(apparently next on their hitlist). As for arresting you for manslaughter, that's just stupid, it'd never stand as it's not a significant enough contribution plus I imagine it's lacking sufficient intent also, in fact, it's completely ludicrous you could think it even possible to be done. I don't think it is actually, technically, manslaughter. Not related to anything or anyone in particular, but I keep seeing it in people's posts, and I'm pretty sure the term is to bear things in mind, not bare.
  18. I've got some shifts booked at the hospital now, which is basically because I have a flexible 'job' where I get work as and when they need me, so there's kind of always a job there but no actual obligation to work(or for them to provide work, but it's the nhs so there's always gonna be if you look hard enough). I've actually got 3 nights booked in the next week, which pays more than working during the day, which is pretty good considering the base pay is above minimum wage anyway!
  19. A counterpart the 'Smoking' thread and borne out of some of the opinions creeping into there, I decided to make this thread to stop that turning into it. So, what are people's opinions of drinking? I'm talking the alcohol kind, not just regular drinking of stuff. Do you approve, disapprove, think it's ok in moderation, think it should be banned etc? What are your opinions on the consumption of alcohol by people, and yourself? What about the issue of age for drinking, and underage drinking, are the laws good enough?
  20. I agree totally too. It's stupid how much fuss was being made about it, especially given the circumstances in which it occured(the parents going out and leaving their kids home alone, in a foreign country). Yet, they get so much exposure and help, it's stupid!
  21. I've skipped most of this thread, but I'd like to say that ginger chris's first paragraph pretty much sums it up for me, immigrants should be able to give at least what they take if not more(and both my parents weren't born here btw). It should be about what you can contribute to the country, not where you're from.
  22. I thought bard looked like a sad arab freak with longer hair in that photo, was it just me, or is it just an effect of this thread? I finally uploaded my photos from Herts, though there aren't many good ones, or ones of me! I also took a picture of the sunset, but a bit late I was trying to take this myself, I think it shows; £1 pint night struck
  23. I dunno if anyone's mentioned this anywhere already, but there's a site and a trailer courtesy of my friend who just told me about it. One thing which is really fucking annoying me? The fact the site and trailer refer to The Golden Compass. SCREW YOU AMERICANS AND YOUR APPARENT STUPIDITY! http://www.goldencompassmovie.com/ It appears Nicole Kidman is staying blond, whereas I'm sure Mrs Coulter had a sort of goldish brown colour to her hair, more on the darker side. Same friend said he was thinking more along the lines of Catherina Ztea-Jones, to which I said 'oo'.
  24. I have a microphone somewhere, and that's it. I'll record something in a few days I think, when I get my laptop through, I'd be quite interested in it!
  25. I think I agree with Solo, the only truly annoying character that I hate was Navi, Navi or the goddamned Owl! They're well annoying if you play through a second time, though you can always skip the owl's crap. As for bowser's children, I thought they were all great!
