Well the title doesn't have to be purely functional. "Movie in which a woman and a man fall in love" etc etc

Titles are part of the whole thing, as Jay said. In ones in which there're "Spoilers" like The Virgin Suicides, it's intended.

I was just trying to show, in my own dickish way, how difficult it is to draw the line between "acceptable pre-viewing material" and not. What about advertising (print and video)? Blurbs at the cinema? Casting (for film serieseseses)? Or what about when a trailer gives away the opposite? Like when a film trailer makes a film seem like an action packed exciting film and its not, they just stuck it all in the trailer. Is that spoiling a film (plot wise) when in fact its not accurately representing it?

Thoughts. Rambles. More jayseven likeness.

So long as the people pay to see the misrepresented movie they probably don't give a shit.

Yeah, I know all that. I know it's not possible to have a film industry where people go watch films based on just the title (effectively the only thing that doesn't give away ANYTHING. Maybe the name of the director too.), just that people don't make films to have the twists/plots etc known about beforehand. But having the thing unwrapped before release is just what happens and is unavoidable...I never really debated that fact.

I wouldn't say the title doesn't give away anything; Fifty Pills, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, The Iron Giant, Battle Royale, Finding Nemo :p

But yeah, I was mostly being stupid/pedantic in a desperate attempt to procrastinate.

But titles don't have to give anything away. And when they do it's intentional. Or rather, in the case of Finding Nemo of The Iron Giant, it's effectively just what the film is (about).

Sunshine

Or 28 days later in space!... in that 2/3rds of the way in, things go mental!

It was worth wathcing, though not something I'd be all that interested in watching again. But had some good effects, good enough cast of characters, and a nice twisty turny storyline that kept shaking things up.

It did seem like it was cut together far to much, I don't know if that was the style he was going for, but whilst I could follow the story, some of the scenes were difficult to keep track of... camera shake, quick camera changes, too dark, not showing enough of the scene etc...

Anyways, perhaps a 6/10

My Sisters Keeper

I begrudgingly agreed to watch this, but ended up absolutely loving it. Em burst into a fit of tears half way through, something I've never seen happen before with a film. The story started out strangely, but as it developed I got completely pulled into it and when the little girl and Cameron Diaz were curled up on the bed, I couldn't help but get horribly emotional. It was absolutely heartbreaking. Not what I expected at all considering Cameron Diaz's acting usually consists of that insane smile of hers followed by some annoyingly cute squeal.

Anyway, fantastic film. I dare you to watch and not cry before the end.

My Sisters Keeper

The book's ending is about 1 trillion times sadder. Seriously, you thought it was sad, you don't know the meaning of sadness until the you've read it. It's bruuutal!

The Fourth Kind

Decided to watch it again and take it seriously all the way through this time. I think that it was better the first time round. The second time round was just rubbish!

Terrible film. "You can believe what you want to believe". I just heard that and though "so it's all crap then?". I honestly think they cut the line short and that as soon as the cameras stop rolling, they add "you suckers"

Seriously, they expect me to believe that aliens can miraculously make people levitate off the bed and stretch their mouths open, with no long term damage? All this is happening when the person is under hypnosis, miles away from any aliens. It's like they thought "that posession malarky is scary too, lets add a bit where someone levitates like in that other film"

Toy Story 2 in 3D.

Great movie which has not aged at all, no real standout 3D effect though but the animation is so clear and crisp you really don't mind.

A classic roll on part 3 :D

I know right! When she was like "What you believe is yours to decide" like 5 times in the movie, I was like "Cheers for giving me the decision in what to believe in!" lmao. It was like I never got the message, lol.

But it was so ridiculous. Another thing I missed was when she was saying "They took her daughter away. She floated THROUGH the ceiling and flew away" or something like that, what nonsense! The makers of the movie said they made everything up, it's completely fake...no shit Sherlock!

Superman IV

It was on Living earlier. Nowhere near as good as the first 2, but still worth watching in my eyes. Stars the late great Christopher Reeve as the Man of Steel.

The best bit of Superman IV is watching out for the shots of Milton Keynes that they used to pretend to be Metropolis

Been watching some comedies recently.

Hot Fuzz and The 40 Year Old Virgin

Watched both these films dozens of times and they never fail to cheer me up.

10/10

Knocked Up

It has its moments but it gets a bit too serious for what it is at times and I'm not keen on the drugged up roomies.

6/10

EDIT :

Disney's Robin Hood

Decent. Nicely animated, but the voices didn't seem to suit the characters and the baddies were too nice in my opinion.

6/10

New York, I Love You

Considering its the city that never sleeps they sure did make it dull. Load of uninteresting pretentious stories. Watched it for visual porn but it kind of fell short. Gossip Girl does a better job in that respect. Although crazy cast:

Bradley Cooper, Natalie Portman, Rachel Bilson, Blake Lively, Shia LaBeouf, Orlando Bloom, Hayden Christensen, Drea de Matteo, Christina Ricci, John Hurt, Andy Garcia etc.

Any film with Zooey Deschanel can only be described as too short.

I spent yesterday evening watching The Shawshank Redemption. Seen it a few times before, but it just captures my attention each time. There's not a lot I can say about this that hasn't been said, but if you've never seen this film before, you must see it at some point in your life.

I've not seen many films with Tim Robbins, but I thought he was brilliant in this, as was Morgan Freeman. There's not too much emphasis on action, or on special effects. Just good script-writing, character/relationship building and acting. :)

9.5/10 for me.

Is that a rip off of Paris, Je t'aime?

It is indeed.

500 Days wasn't that long was it? Sure it was the standard 90-100.

95 minutes according to IMDB. So yeah, it really wasn't that long at all, and never seemed too long either I think (at least to me).

All About Steve

I had to see this purely because I'm in love with Sandra Bullock. It started out predictably, but I genuinely enjoyed the last hour or so. Not that I laughed much, but when I did I couldn't stop myself. When the children fell down the mineshaft, I burst into a fit of laughter that continued for about 5 minutes. People falling is hilarious.
