Owen
Owen's sig just reminded me about Rasmus's song funeral song, that kinda freaked me out... Dunno why i listened to it, i hate the rasmus.. The Rasmus's most depressing but superb song is 'Liquid'. Which i heard was about a fan who killed herself because she couldn't be with Lauri (the lead singer). Could well be wrong though, could just be a mis-informed person who said that.
Dan_Dare
Joy Division. 'Nuff said. quoted because it won the thread. Joy Division are the kings of achingly taunt emotion in music.

Platty
For depressing music you need to get some Radiohead. You will soon be in the bath thinking about ending it all.

MunKy
Havent read the rest of the thread but its unlikely this has been posted anyway. Daddy by KoRn, its about when Jonathan Davis was sexually abused as a child, at the end end of the song he breaks down in tears and just crys while everyone thinks of what to do. Its such a powerful song, if it doesnt make you feel anything, be it disturbed, sad, sick or tearful you have something wrong with you. *Awaits insult from Dan Dare about how shit KoRn are*
Schizoid Man
Maximo Park are depressingly bad, Arcade Fire are depressingly good.

I find Radiohead Melancholy, but not depressing. it's never made me sad, just thoughtful and contemplative. *Awaits insult from Dan Dare about how shit KoRn are* Your wish is my command: 'poo'. EEVILMURRAY
I am a huge fan of derpressing music - e.g. Gary Jules - Mad World Dear God I'm so sorry, have the doctors found a cure yet? The whole of H.I.M-Dark Light,When i lsitened to dark light, i actually got depressed. I disagree. I love HIM, but i wouldn't say the music is depressing, because his gothic, wears alot of black and sings about gothic stuff doesn't make it depressing, more enchanting! Anyway his songs are really catchy! I concur. Plus I like their cover of Don't ph34r Teh Reaper. Any version of Hallelujah while, not that depressing to me is a banging track not unlike Mad World [in the sense that it's actually good.]
Roostophe
For depressing music you need to get some Radiohead. You will soon be in the bath thinking about ending it all. I hate it when people call Radiohead depressing, not every single Radiohead song is depressing. "Bones" and "Black Star" off The Bends are somehow uplifting IMO. But I don't know how. One quite depressing song is "Falling Away With You" by Muse. The beginning starts off quiet and slow, whilst Matt Bellamy sings in a style reminiscent of Jeff Buckley, before the drums and bass kicks in and it all goes into a hard-hitting rock track. The second verse is a lot different, same riff to verse 1 but there are drums and bass included, Matt still singing like Jeff Buckley. Then there is the second chorus and the ending. It's all one fantastic yet quite depressing song. Arcade Fire, none of their songs are depressing IMO. Songs like Haiti and Rebellion are uplifting and calm. The album is only seen as depressing because of the name and of the circumstances the album was made under.

Blackfox
Gary Jules is pure unadulterated shite. He killed a perfectly good Tears for Fears song.
Schizoid Man
Oh but Neighbourhood (Tunnels) though! His voice is pretty heartbreaking, and the lyrics. Same goes for Laika. I find Arcade Fire's most depressing stuff is the best anyway, hits you that bit harder. The whole of ( ) by Sigur Ros is pretty morbid. It's a good thing kids! Wesley
AH! Someone said Morrissey and The Smiths for depressing music?! I'm a huge fan of The Smiths and they're one of the few bands that really lift me up in spirit! Oh my.. By the way, I have lots of bootlegs made by small companies which I bought at a local indie record store. I didn't think they were illegal, if they are no one seems to care then half the store is full of them.
Atomic Boo
I have a japanese music CD 'the best of the far east' and it has some depressing songs on it. Its pretty cool to change from rock to the instruments the japanese use like the koto and shamisen. The track I particularly like is called Tokyoshere. has the smooth flute going through it making some stange sounds and then the zither, guitarish instument goes along with it and it all sounds quite nice yet depressing
Monopolyman
I love both of those songs, I've got a really good live version of each if you want them (much better than the normal song). Note to mods: bootlegs are legal so there's no reason to delete this post for talk of downloading Nah, it's OK, I think I got something like that somewhere. Anyway, to add to this list, anything from 'The Wall'.

Nintendork
Johnny Cash - Hurt This just came to my mind, and I'm very surprised it wasn't mentioned sooner. Watch the video for maximum effect, it nearly brought me to tears. It's so powerful and pure. This thread might as well be over. Quoted for truth, See the live version with Nine Inch Nails... most atmospheric performance ever. It's on 'Further down the spiral' Best. Song. Ever. Bar none. I didn't really have a prescriptive set of music.. I just based my selection earlier on what music can be comforting when you are depressed. I don't see music as something that can make you sad.. Nothing has been written to make you sad. Except emo music which is just a fad. There's nothing depressing about anything constructive like that.. if you get depressed by music you're probably looking to get depressed.
Shorty
Josh Radin- Winter. Please don't just skip over this track, it really is beautiful. Yeah, i'd agree, it's disturbing. Emo, then? Brand New - The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot The Used - Poetic Tragedy And non-emo - mewithoutyou - Gentlemen. Sorta.
