Helmsly Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 I'm still gutted that Miiverse is getting scrapped. Why? It seems from the Switch you can post screenshots etc to Facebook and twitter but to be honest no-one really cares. At least on Miiverse there was an audience for it. It was really good that you could follow your other peoples gaming progress. Yeah me too. Miiverse was genuinely useful if you were ever stuck in a game. I'd ask a question on there and get responses within seconds from loads of helpful people. I also loved some of the art work you could see on there too. Miiverse was at its best when it was integrated directly into a game, like the hub area in Splatoon. I'm actually really surprised they would remove it now, just as they are about to start charging for online. You would think having something unique like Miiverse as part of their online system would be a nice benefit to trying to sell the idea of paying for online to their fan base.

I've seen many suggest that Miiverse may just be part of their phone app service but i've no idea how this would work. I mean, how would you upload your screenshots? Would the Switch transfer the shot to the phone or something? I'm still clinging to some hope that Miiverse isn't being scrapped but it may be a foolish dream at this point.
bob Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 I mean, how would you upload your screenshots? Would the Switch transfer the shot to the phone or something? That would be quite useful actually. Far better than on PS4 currently where you have to upload it to Twitter to get at it.

Well there is a gallery app now on the Switch, so if this is cloud based then your gallery could just be accessed through the phone app, that would be absolutely brilliant actually. Please be true.... though how do you draw?! No miiverse, no streaming, potentially no web or streaming apps... All very strange. Certainly streamlining the console.
Goron_3 Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Slightly off topic but a developer with a fair bit of inside knowledge was on Radio Free Nintendo for their post-Switch reveal. One thing she mentioned was that the Switch production has been designed to reduce in cost much quicker than the Wii U ever was. Up until the last Wii U's were in production, Nintendo were still paying up to $94 to produce a Gamepad, the same price it cost them when the console launched. Because Wii U sold so poorly and each console could only support one Gamepad maximum, they were never able to manufacturer the item in bulk and cut costs. She also said that she's never been so excited by Nintendo's software strategy, but of course couldn't mention what unannounced games were in development. Funnily enough, I keep flip-flopping over the Switch. I've realised that if I just view it as the most powerful handheld ever (and a MASSIVE step up from the 3DS) then it's an awesome, luxury product. Can't wait.
Happenstance Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 That would be quite useful actually. Far better than on PS4 currently where you have to upload it to Twitter to get at it. You can use a usb key now as well.

This is another reason why I hope the Switch has a browser like the Wii U, as you can directly upload screenshots to image hosts, facebook and twitter from it, rather then just upload it to Miiverse. And the screens come out pretty good too:

It's remarkable that the Wii U was ever green lit. The production costs alone for the gamepad should of immediately meant it was a non starter.
Sheikah Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 I wouldn't pay 94 dollars for it, never mind that being cost price. It was like a Fisher Price toy.
Clownferret Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 She also said that she's never been so excited by Nintendo's software strategy, but of course couldn't mention what unannounced games were in development. There are obviously a lot of games in production. The sample vid at the end of the reveal showed a lot of games that have not been mentioned as yet and we already "know" about numerous in-house titles that again were not mentioned (Pikimin 4, Pokémon, Luigis Ghost House) it does beg the question why they have not given out more info for these. Perhaps they are waiting for E3? Is Gamecube VC a thing or still just a rumour at this point? It's good to see that already the RRP prices are being slashed by retailers, not that you'd think it by all the bitching and moaning on here!
martinist Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Anyone lese get an email from ShopTo regarding the pre-order allocations of the red/blue joycon switch? Looks like it's really limited, atleast thats what ShopTo is saying.

I'm not trying to cause arguments here but N-Europe isn't in some little bubble where we are the only ones not happy about the price. The complaints about the prices have been coming from everywhere, no matter the region. Neogaf, Gamefaqs, NintendoLife, Kinda Funny, RFN...the list goes on.

I'd like to thing that our complaints are mainly because we all want Nintendo to do well, both in terms of sales and quality of games. Nintendo were a big part of my childhood and my teenage years, and I want them to be have that impact on as many people as possible.
Aneres11 Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Yessssss. Ordered the grey on 13th. LAME order being cancelled.

Nintendo are a massive part of my gaming DNA and I want them to do well. You're talking to a guy who grew up with every Nintendo system, bought 2 of every amiibo, still plays on his Wii U, and just this morning picked up two N64 games off of eBay this morning. I love their history and their output and I'd honestly not want a gaming landscape without them in it. It's just that they make some flat out crazy decisions that seem to hinder them time and time again. I think it's easy to just assume that people complain because they are negative or want to company to fail, but in this case it couldn't be further from the truth. Yessssss. Ordered the grey on 13th. Nice. Got the email myself. At least I know i've got one for launch, should I choose to keep the order. Not gonna lie, i'm a little excited now that I know I could have one at launch day. May keep my second pre-order too for my nephew... Can't wait to play Zelda on Switch. If my young self could imagine a (portable) Ocarina evolution to BoTW levels, I'd say 2017 was what the future was meant to look like. We Ghibli now.:awesome: People only spend hours pouring over their decisions and debating and reacting as they care what Nintendo are doing. In Switch, the hardware looks superb and modern and when Pokemon, Mario, Mario Sport/Kart/Smash/Metroid etc. hits; their local multiplayer components will make this system shine. Can't wait for a warioware game on this system!
S.C.G Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 It begins... http://store.nintendo.co.uk/nintendo-switch-console/nintendo-switch-with-neon-red-joy-con-neon-blue-joy-con-controllers/11396090.html?widget_id=505877 Red/Blue Joy-Con Switch now Out of Stock on Nintendo, ShopTo and probably other places too. Hopefully this isn't indicative of not enough stock but it does make you wonder, how long before the Grey Joy-Con Switch sells out? My pre-order for Nintendo Store is safe, as far as I know - it had better be considering what I've ordered from them! - and my back-up Shop-To pre-order is locked in, here's the message for that in case anyone is interested... Dear Customer, We are pleased to inform you all customers who have pre-ordered the Grey Switch Console will be receiving the console for launch on 3rd March. Unfortunately, the red/blue console is very short in the market so customers who ordered before Saturday 14th January at 1.30pm will be fulfilled. Pre-orders after this time will be after launch in the second wave, the date is unknown at this point. If there are cancellations on either of the consoles, then the site will allow new orders to be made up to the pre-order allocation received from Nintendo. Kind Regards, The ShopTo Team Interesting times ahead...
Ashley Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 I wonder what percent grey vs coloured stock there is generally. 75/25?
Julius Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Locked in pre-orders for Amazon and ShopTo for the Switch, Pro Controller, Breath of the Wild, and some other accessories. But I have to ask: has anyone used gameseek.co.uk before? Seen contrasting reviews (2/3 days early, great service; ZombiU being a bundled version as opposed to single with damaged packaging), but the potential savings to be made on the Switch are why I ask: it's currently available for £198.50 (£81.49 below RRP) with them.
Space Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Got the ShopTo email, very pleased to hear my grey one will be here on launch! I reckon the neon ones were something introduced into the plan relatively recently to aid marketing efforts. My original impression of the teaser months ago was it was very grey, expect that came up in research. Good to have choice though.

The complaints about the prices have been coming from everywhere, no matter the region. Neogaf, Gamefaqs, NintendoLife, Kinda Funny, RFN...the list goes on. To me it just highlights that gamers in general are a bit on the irrational side and the whole "I care about Nintendo so my rants are warranted" (not speaking about you personally) reminds me of the sort of language used in dosmestic abuse cases. The thing is the pricing sounds reasonable for the tech being used and the current financial climates. I remember browsing for Dualshocks at some point in time and seeing £49.99 price tags - for me it was never worth it but I don't quite remember seeing the same uproar. Nintendo certainly gets a different treatment, even when it does things similar to its competition. I understand the frustration from some of their decision-making... But I reckon half the quarrels could be squashed if we relaxed a bit and exercised patience, waiting for official news instead of rant-like assumptions ala online services for example.
martinist Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Pre-ordered the red/blue joycon console on the 13th. If I was a day later I would be scrambling for another pre-order right now or would have just switched to the grey one. Garenteed release console for me though so I'm happy ^_^

It WAS that price, they now have preorders for all their allocation and so it's not up for preorder any longer... they're saying they are honouring the price for people who preordered it but once it goes back up for preorder you can expect the price to go to the RRP.
Falcon_BlizZACK Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Ooooh, my red/blue preorder was made on Sat 14th at 11.20am... Reckon its safe to delete my grey preorder?
