It doesn't matter. Online isn't the be all, voice-chat isn't essential, all about the games, gameplay, etc etc.

For me, for this game online with voice-chat absolutely is the be all and end all.

I don't get this. Without some kind of communication how can you even play this as a team?

In a convention centre with multiple wii us and internet connections, I am sure team playing is easy but no one will ever have that.

How could it possibly affect the balance of the game? Just ridiculous.

Ahahahahahaahahahahaha

Nintendo deserves all the struggles it faces, seriously. I understand that they most likely need to maintain the differential from the competition as their means to survive, but at least adopt the good parts!

Does the project manager live in a complete bubble? Has no one heard the near unanimous call for voice chat? It's just fucking astounding that the concerns expressed on multiple outlets, including their own god damn social network Miiverse, have fallen on deaf ears. No, that's far too naive of an assumption, no way is this not being heard.

That's so worrying. How could communication disrupt things? People are social creatures that want to work together.

But being able to communicate with voice chat would hugely change the way you potentially would play, that's the reason we all want it. So that you can co-ordinate as a team.

But then when you are playing local multiplayer, that communication is there... so the game SHOULD be balanced from that point of view anyway.

So I would say more confusing that worrying. maybe they can't figure out how to do voice chat well, so are making up a different excuse to hide their weakness?

My post was sarcasm. :D

I worry that Nintendo don't understand the importance of online and still assume that the vast majority of multiplayer that takes place is local multiplayer, hence why many of their titles miss key online features.

And even at the most fundamental level it's not about co-ordinating tactics, it's just being able to have fun with your mates! "OMG did you see that!"

Nintendo are too busy not understanding how something can be fun unless they've put their own ridiculous fucking spin on it. Just look at Reggie's spin on the Twitch idea, he takes an imperialistic stance with his opinion and proclaims it's not very fun yet it's fun enough to have many hundreds of thousands of viewers daily on Twitch.

Obviously he's covering his ass because the Wii U can't handle it, but I fucking hate that attitude as it's become so typical Nintendo. I wish they'd just fucking get in the tub all ready rather than be complete fucking wimps that can't decide if the water is the right temperature.

I'd prefer no voice chat personally, would be too distracting. Then again the option of having it on or off seems a good compromise.

I can't even begin to comprehend this post.

Since when has an on and off option been a 'good compromise'? It sounds to me like a bare basic feature pretty much every other platform offers.

Not every gamer is into headsets and voice chat co-ordination. I wouldn't touch that kind of thing. If I played this online, I'd rather do it without the distraction of voice chat, hence my suggestion of an on/off option.

That's completely fine, but the point I was making was your usage of the word "compromise", as there's nothing to compromise on here, it should be an option in every multiplayer game.

I think Nintendo's stance is more looking at the quality of online play, that they consider online to be a poor imitation of it's local equivalent. On that point I would agree.

But with the Wii U being so rare these days, I think it's just about hit 1 console in every 100 households in the UK as an example, I do agree with you and online is particularly important for the Wii U - playing against non-owners tends to be an unsatisfying experience for me, based on past experience.

I guess the MK8 tournament is a good example - locally I don't really have anyone who can challenge me on MK8, but in the online tournament I'm right down at the bottom of the pile, I have to push myself to improve, and that's what I enjoy about multiplayer.

That's how every game with voice chat works. And most allow you to mute individual people or limit it to friends only.

I have to disagree with online being considered a poor imitation of local play. Online is more convenient and gives you access to more players and better competition. You will never get 12 players on MarioKart locally. If they ever added proper voice chat into the mix it would be like your friends were there anyway.

I think we're on the same page about this. By worrying, I meant Nintendo are worrying me about being so blind.

I was convinced to buy this game as soon as I saw it.

My enthusiasm will decline if voice chat is not announced.

Do you really need to bring this up in every thread? You want voice chat, we get it.

I understand that but unlike you, I don't have the time to play games a lot (and if I have, it always feels like work instead of fun).

And if voice chat won't be in, you can still use Skype. ;)

But in a squad/team game where you are co-operating, voice chat is a very useful tool to co-ordinate with team mates, from what we know so far I do get the impression it is something splatoon would really benefit from.

Maybe they want it to be more of a individual thing?

Does Nintendo need to exclude it or put a sub par version in all their games? It is they that don't get it.

Thought this forum was about talking about gaming? It's on topic. Don't see a problem with it. You can always "ignore" me. I actually think I don't really mention it all that much compared to others.

I don't like gaming online on my own and prefer not against random voiceless people over the internet. Rather game with my mates. Personal preference, of course. My enthusiasm will dumb down if voice chat isn't included. May come across as petty but these days gaming for me has formed part of socialising with my mates exclusively from this forum actually who I don't get to see all that much.

How do you know that I have the time to play games a lot? I don't recall ever knowing you.

For your information, I am out of house for normally 13 hours a day during the week, sometimes more. I don't game all that often during the week.

When I do game, as previously stated I prefer to game with people I know and can speak to.

Unfortunately Skype is not an acceptable substitute. Nintendo has to modernise and include voice chat in their online multiplayer games. I acknowledge that they don't though and are unlikely to change. Fortunately I have got the contact details of friends I want to game with in any case.

I really don't get the love of voice chat, its like a big awkwardly long phone call.

I use it with my friends on GTAV and its just a series of us instructing how to do a mission, then silence talking to a person with us or grunting and everything one saying "what" and 10 min explaining, then rinse and repeat....but thats Playstation, atleast with xbox you had a physical mute switch

I miss MMO style text entry, everyone should have a keyboard and just post messages

wish i was being sarcastic, but i'd prefer that
