E3 Wii U and 3DS Rumours Cause a Stir - Mario, Zelda, Final Fantasy and more

With E3 Expo creeping up in a matter of weeks, rumour mills have exploded with potential new titles for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.

As with all rumours, these should certainly be taken with a pinch of salt. A fair few suggestions seem pretty out there, whilst others lean into the feasible territory.

The rumour creator pulling the strings is an IGN member who goes by the name "100-Year-Old-Gamer". Having posted a handful of rumours that turned out to be true in the past, he has returned to spill more beans on what could be in store for Nintendo fans at E3.

Remember, these are purely unconfirmed details with some practically a given:

Pokémon News

Pokemon X and Y and Pokemon Rumble U news expected with no other Pokémon games revealed.

Game Updates

Yoshi Wii U is said to be a late 2013/early 2014 title.

Games said to be at the E3 showfloor: 3D Mario, Mario Kart, Pikmin 3, W101, X, Mario and Luigi: Dream Team.

Rumoured/Unconfirmed Games

Capcom supposedly working on a Resident Evil remake from their back catalogue.

Nintendo wanting to continue Picross on Nintendo 3DS.

New Star Fox title, said to be more like Lylat Wars, expected this generation.

Star Wars expected on Wii U as "Disney likes the Wii U so far".

Nintendo titles to use NFC - new IP from Nintendo.

New Animal Crossing expected, but "way off" for Wii U.

Nintendo tried to regain Banjo Kazooie but it didn't work.

A Final Fantasy remake is being developed for Wii U.

Games that will use dual GamePad controllers will be announced.

Legend of Zelda

New Legend of Zelda is said to feature a return for past races like the Gorons, Zoras plus new additional species to encounter.

The game is also venturing into more "RPG-like" territory without "going full out RPG", like Skyward Sword.

Hardware Revisions and Performance

Wii U periperhals expected this year (to connect to the GamePad).

A New Nintendo Wii U is expected by the end of 2014 with more internal storage but Blu-ray is unknown.

A new Nintendo 3DS revision is expected, but not within the next two years.

Denies Wii U clock-speed increases.

Achievements and linked accounts said to be coming but "in a different way than anyone else does".

Nintendo working on trying to get more engines supported by Wii U.

Virtual Console Releases

Nintendo are expected to show and highlight classic GameCube titles heading to Virtual Console.

Online multiplayer for classic Virtual Console games isn't likely from Nintendo but "third parties will".

Plans to release classic titles, like Xenoblade Chronicles, on the Wii U eShop is likely at some point.

Retro Studios Wii U Project

The upcoming, untitled game from Retro Studios is said to be first-person, futuristic and "something everyone wants them to make".

Said to be working on a Donkey Kong track for Mario Kart Wii U.

Whilst some are more likely to be true than others, it's certainly worth digesting and thinking about for Nintendo's much anticipated E3 2013.

Which of these E3 Wii U and 3DS rumours do you think are true?

Being that the source is 'Cubed3' I'm going to take these rumours with a DK Barrel sized serving of salt for now...

... but who knows? Some of it at least sounds half plausible. : peace:

Star Wars expected on Wii U as "Disney likes the Wii U so far".

Strange. Disney have already announced that they are not making any Star Wars games for consoles. Mainly because Disney don't like games consoles or PCs.

Disney are making Star Wars mobile and Facebook games.

Unless it's that Metal Gear Solid Anthology thing that's getting a release on the PS3, I honestly wouldn't get your hopes up for a Metal Gear title on the Wii U. Just won't happen. [/negative nancy]

There's a worrying lack of Wind Waker HD news there.

Just a few months ago they talked about how the original Wii U game was a long way off and that Wind Waker would satisfy fans until then. I can't believe they'll show anything of it already.

Unless he's extremely high up (in which case he would be sacked by now), I have no idea how he would know something like that - discussions would almost certainly be directly between Iwata and Kojima.

While I do take this with a BIG pinch of salt, I think that whether it'll be out for the Wii U or not won't be something held private between those two. First off, Nintendo have stated that they'll provide technical help to those who release games for their system, secondly, MGS is a quite big deal and I think Nintendo are going to make a big deal out of it if it turns out to be true.

But I do doubt that it's true.

Regarding the Final Fantasy remake rumor: that would be great. The obvious candidate is of course Final Fantasy VII.

As much as I love the Prime series, I really hope Retro are working on something brand new, their own creation - or at the very least reimagining a really old IP from NES days. But preferably something new.

The above rumours however are no doubt bull shot.

RUMOR - 3-5 Nintendo Directs coming around E3, Mario, Retro and Smash Bros. talk

Information that should be taken with a big grain of salt. These details come from someone that has supposedly gotten info correct in the past, but the later details are a little too far-fetched for me.

- Nintendo will air three to five Nintendo Directs before and around E3

- this will start on May 30th

- 3D Mario for Wii U will be “huge, bigger than any Mario game to date”

- the title looks “unlike anything you’ve ever seen”

- Retro's game will be first person, futuristic, and something everyone wants them to d

- when asked if “a certain Super Saiyan” would join Smash Bros (since Namco is involved), the source claimed it “hasn’t been decided yet, but there is a chance”

What's bigger than the 'U'niverse?

No.

Because that would mean that it'd probably include the Miiverse.

Seriously, keep the Miis away from the classics. And the new IP's.

On second thought: ban them to the realms of the OS for all eternity, and may each and all of them find a million insects in their underpants if they even think of intruding on an actual game.

That would be the most utterly stupid thing to ever happen.

Thankfully, it's very unlikely.

Edit: NeoGaf has looked into it and plenty of this guy's rumours turned out to be incorrect.

It would also mean you play as a character who stands still for 95% of the time.

Why would Nintendo want to buy Banjo?

They've never done such a thing and that market is already plugged with Mario as well as the DK universe.

Stupid rumours defy logic.

The mulitiverse - should you subscribe to such theories.

Multiplatform mario title incoming!

Ahh, reminds me of playing SSBB online.

The market for it also isn't great, and Banjo fans wouldn't be keen on it without Rare. It may be the best platformer made, but sales-wise it wouldn't be worth the effort from Nintendo.
