A monster of a find: Couple walking their dogs discover 30ft carcass of sea creature rotting on beach

A couple were left shocked when they discovered the rotting body of a sea monster while walking along a beach.

Margaret and Nick Flippence made the incredible find as they exercised their dogs at Bridge of Don, Aberdeen.

Mr Flippence, 59, who lives nearby, said: 'We were stunned. I thought, "oh my God what is it?"

'It's like nothing we have ever seen, it almost looks pre-historic,' he told the Sun.

Curled up by the foot of sand dunes was the 30ft-long body of the unidentified animal with head, tail and teeth all discernible.

Experts are now examining the pictures with one suggesting it could be the body of a whale.

Rob Deville, a marine life expert at London Zoo, said the body could be that of a killer whale or a smaller pilot whale.

Whale expert Mark Simmonds told the Sun: 'it died a long time ago and tides caused the body to wash ashore.'

Personally, I don't believe it's a known type of whale, as there are no ribs or flippers. The head also looks like a reptile's, with "ridged" eyes. However, it's not too dissimilar to this:

Interestingly, a creature like this has been spotted in Canada. All the famous lake monsters, eg. Loch Ness Monster, Champ, Ogopogo are seen on a similar line of latitude, eg. Canada, Scotland, Northern USA.

Why are 'experts' now examining the picture and not the actual animal? I assume this has been gone and been looked at by someone, otherwise this could just be an elaborate fake.

It also looks more like 15ft (3x as long as her), than 30ft!

I must admit I'm sucker for all these monster stories. Very strange looking whale if it ever was one.

So do I. You can't beat a bit of cryptozoology. :)

I'm afraid to say, though, that I have seen a simple explanation for this picture: the skull is upside-down. With this knowledge, you can't help but see how similar it is to a whale.

Still, there's always another story: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2016445/Loch-Ness-like-monster-Alaska-captured-film.html

Looks like a pilot whale to me. The body profile is very similar and the placement of the occipital cavity look about right. That's also why I don't think it's a killer whale.

99% sure it's a mammal though just by looking at the spine.

Oh I just realised this washed up in Canada so it could easily be a Beluga whale.

Personally I hoped this was a thread celebrating one of our scottish members' birthday.

Scottish people have the internet?

Well, that certainly explains \b\
