Oxigen_Waste Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 I'm guessing you'll be disappointed with it.. I vote the world in general will, if the trailer's anything to go by. It is one of the most beloved books in recent history, after all, and they seem to have completely butchered the story potential, judging by the trailer. Of course, just like good trailers meaningless, sometimes, so are the bad ones.
bob Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 Actually i meant Looper , but yeah, i'm not expecting Life of Pi to be as good as the book. Can't deny the trailer doesn't look beautiful though! (Well you can....but....well....hmmmm)

Can't deny the trailer doesn't look beautiful though! (Well you can....but....well....hmmmm) Meh, I loved Brick and honestly I'm just looking for some decent action sci-fi, so as long as it's decent, I won't mind it. It does look beautifull, but it does seem to be going about it with too much melodrama. I hope they deliver that last third as powerfully as they do in the book.
Coolness Bears Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 Amour | Michael Haneke (2012) This film has broken me as a human. A harrowing but excellent film that I do not need to see again for a while. The best film I have seen this year by miles. Second place being taken by another french film Holy Motors. Well done France.
Murr Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 I recently watched Looper and The Campaign. Looper - I was disappointed with it to be honest, I thought it was going to be alot more JGL vs Willis / hunting him down. And thought it was going to be a lot more sci-fi-y. I was never bored while watching it, and I didn't lose interest, I was just expecting more. I won't be buying it on DVD when it's out. The Campaign - pretty funny. Will Ferrell was alot funnier than Zach GialongnamethatIcantremember. Especially liked the answer machine message that Ferrell left on the Christian family voice mail. This is one I would buy on DVD :p
Charlie Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Went to see Hotel Transylvania last night. Definitely a kids film and we definitely laughed far too much at it. Some serious 'lol' moments in it.
Dannyboy-the-Dane Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Went to see Hotel Transylvania last night. Definitely a kids film and we definitely laughed far too much at it. Some serious 'lol' moments in it. I've wanted to see it since seeing the trailer. It looks really cute.
Charlie Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 I've wanted to see it since seeing the trailer. It looks really cute. Yeah, she is.
Ramar Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 Went to see Hotel Transylvania last night. Definitely a kids film and we definitely laughed far too much at it. Some serious 'lol' moments in it. I went to see that Sunday. Fun movie, you aren't alone at laughing too much.
Cube Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 Are you telling me that there's a funny Adam Sandler film?
Frank Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 I just finished watching, "Old Boy". It's one of the most well-known and greatest..wait for it..korean films. Shock! It's quite easy to find online so I would genuinely suggest watching this film if ever looking for a film to watch. It's slightly quirky, intensely disturbing and really thought-provoking. The way that the film is shot is also incredibly beautiful, I really enjoyed how the directer played with the camera. Just clever and interesting ways of shooting, just because he can. I liked the villain too, he was pretty rad.
jayseven Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 I'm sure they are, but be sure to have Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance on your list. The form the bookends to the 'Oldboy trilogy', and each is quirky and thought-provoking in its own way.
bryanee Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 The Cabin in the Woods - You like Pain? Hows that work for ya?/10 Fun gory film. It felt very much like an extended, bloody Buffy episode without Buffy. Very enjoyable.
Ashley Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 Watched it this morning as part of the LFF. Basically Life in a Day, but focused on Japan on March 11th 2012. Good mixture between every day and poignant clips. Afterwards there was a slightly awkward Q&A with the directors and some of the people from Tokyo.
Wii Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Are you telling me that there's a funny Adam Sandler film? Yes but they're in a land far, far away in a land that time forgot.
jayseven Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 I love recommending movies to people, because I feel like I have an actual ability to recognise a good movie from bad. However, I have come to find that I still need to work on recognising whether the people watching the movie are good movie goers or bad. I counter-balance this by simply not watching the movie with them. I bought drive for my cousin's b'day, and I'm glad I did the balancing act. He and my my uncle watched it and afterwards just said "meh". At that point I've either got to try and explain the movie to them, or just give up and consider buying Gone In 60 Seconds instead...
bob Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Dude you do not seem like a fun person to watch a film with...
Charlie Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Films I've seen this last couple weeks since getting my Unlimited card: Cacking my pants the whole way through it. Not a horror movie fan but the actual film was OK. I can appreciate how the film works and builds up the tension the way it did. Exactly what I was expecting, glad it didn't go on much longer than it did. Liam Neeson shows again that he only has one tone of voice. Can't say that I overly enjoyed it but I knew what I was going to. Decent film, little bit confusing at the start until I got what it was all about then I quite enjoyed it. Can't wait for Skyfall, going to wait until next week to see it so the cinema is slightly quieter.
bryanee Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 (edited) Arnie looking badfuckingass on the set of his new movie, Ten. Frank Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 I'm sure they are' date=' but be sure to have [b']Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance[/b] and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance on your list. The form the bookends to the 'Oldboy trilogy', and each is quirky and thought-provoking in its own way. Guessed right, i watched Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance a few days ago. wow, I feel it was just as good. The camera work was even possibly better. The characters were just so fucking well done and amazing and I fell in love with Ryu, a teency bit. [his hair rocks] disturbing is certainly a word I'd use for this too and I'm expecting the same for Sympathy for Lady Vengeance. damn, I then made the mistake of watching Irreversible afterwards.. basically a weird french film - I watched the first 30mins and shut it off [it's basically explicit gay porn and more explicit violence]. i just wanted something nice & pretty. ANYWAY - tell me you're favourite of the trilogy! what are your thoughts on them?
jayseven Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 It must be about 3 years since I watched, but I do remember thinkiing Mr. Vengeance was my favourite. Oldboy was great, don't get me wrong, but I appreciated the slower and more introspective narrative of the first film. Lady Vengeance was my least favourite even though, iirc, it is full of artsy flourishes. I can't remember the details but I do remember coming on here and someone basically saying I didn't 'get' something important/significant.
ipaul Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Very good, as I expected it to be. I understood the mild buzz that seems to swirl around this once I had watched it. Well...that was a film. Loved it up until the last fifteen minutes or so, which was still brilliant, but my internet-affected attention span was wearing very thin by that point. I hate myself sometimes Never quite seen anything like it before. Think everyone should try it at least once.
Paj! Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 <3 Synecdoche, New York. Need to watch that again actually. So awesome. I love the ending.
Frank Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Herro guys Does anyone have any recommendations for a good ol' fashioned film for me? Sorta looking for an indie-ish / avant-guarde film , preferably uplifting and based on something simple like friendship. That's specific. Hrm, well I have 2 packets of cookies, a carton of milk and a pizza waiting for me so I'm easy for anything
ipaul Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Watched Dazed And Confused earlier tonight. I enjoyed it, a kind of affectionate look at american youth culture in the mid 1970s, although one that didn't suffer from being too nostalgic. Nothing earth shattering but I enjoyed it and the soundtrack was pretty sweet. Although the 60s Zeppelin song from which the title borrows its name was nowhere to be heard It was also very weird to see a young Ben Affleck in this film playing the typical 'highschool douchebag' role.
