Oxigen_Waste Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 (edited) EDIT: Synopsis Boardwalk Empire is a period drama focusing on Enoch "Nucky" Thompson (based on the historical Enoch L. Johnson), a political figure who rose to prominence and controlled Atlantic City, New Jersey during the Prohibition period of the 1920s and 1930s. Nucky interacts with several historical figures in both his personal and political life, including mobsters, politicians, government agents, and the common folk who looked up to him. The government also takes an interest in the bootlegging and other illegal activities in the area, sending agents to investigate possible mob connections but also looking at Nucky's expensive and lavish lifestyle for a county political figure. Like the historical Enoch L. Johnson, the Nucky of the television series is the second of three crime bosses who head the Republican machine and use racketeering and power politics to control Atlantic City. However, Terence Winter has stated, "Nelson Johnson's book was really just a jumping-off point." [/edit] (thanks, wikipedia) Just saw the pilot... I'm well impressed, I am! Fantastic everything. Dream cast (Omar's back, all you Wire fans)! Has anyone else seen this? Seems like we have another winner on our hands! Edited November 18, 2010 by Oxigen_Waste
Sméagol Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 A reminder please (well, I could google, but..)? I recall the title, but I have forgotten what this was supposed to be about. I do recall I was interested as well.
Ashley Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 I mentioned it a while back (just for information purposes, not suggesting a bump) but not watched anything other than the pilot. It seems to have an intense complex plot I don't have time for at the moment unfortunately.
gmac Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 it's currently on my "to watch list" (have all the episodes ready to watch) so just need to make some time for it
Oxigen_Waste Posted November 18, 2010 Author Posted November 18, 2010 I mentioned it a while back (just for information purposes, not suggesting a bump) but not watched anything other than the pilot. It seems to have an intense complex plot I don't have time for at the moment unfortunately. I've only just realised I've been saying the show's name wrong... ah ah. I did a search on threads too, but since I typed Broadwalk instead of Boardwalk it came back negative. Sorry 'bout that. I love it when these things happen... it's just unofortunate that I noticed so early... this would probably develop into one of those awesome moments when you realise you were doing something wrong for a long long time. For instance, I only discovered it was Dumbledore when the movies came out... I always read it Dumblemore and once you see it wrong, it's hard to see it right, as you're not looking for it.
Sméagol Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 Thanks. Must have been the Scorsese name that brought this series to my attention. Anyway, haven't seen the trailer, but it does sound interesting. I'll go watch it later, and keep the title in mind, and in the meantime, I'll tell the people I know to keep an eye out for it.
jayseven Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 (edited) I was meaning to watch this ages ago! Currently attempting to burn through Star Trek TNG... I envision a sort of Deadwood meets Sopranos/Sons of Anarchy. Buscemi's in it, which surely means everone on earth should watch it. I'll probably get round to it next week. Oxigen_Waste Posted November 19, 2010 Author Posted November 19, 2010 We just can't get the name right, can we?

ReZourceman Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 Omar's in it!? Ah! I watched the first five minutes then had to go pick someone up. Now I'ma have to watch it all.
Murr Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 Omar's in it!? Ah! I watched the first five minutes then had to go pick someone up. Now I'ma have to watch it all. I'm in it? Moving on, will be watching this when it airs on British TV, i'm not into all this new fangled technology were you watch it on your pc. I Love Scorsese, so it's a must!
The Bard Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 Can't wait to watch this shit, but I think I'm gonna have to wait until it's out on DVD.
Dan_Dare Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 This is currently on The List- really want to see it but have so much to watch already and a full time job. Woes.
Oxigen_Waste Posted December 13, 2010 Author Posted December 13, 2010 Just finished the season. Okay, it really is one of the great ones. any other followers yet?
Dog-amoto Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Bumpy. Just finished the first series and watched the first episode of the second. Absolutely fantastic stuff. Favourite character has to be Agent Van Alden. He actually scares me a little (ok, a lot) Is there any more love for this on the forums?
Magnus Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Late to the party as usual, Dog-amoto. :p But yeah, it's pretty great.
Dog-amoto Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 So...new series starts this weekend. Who'll be watching?
Magnus Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 I'll be watching! It'll be interesting to see if the show can stay good after the events in the season two finale.
Dog-amoto Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 Looks like just me and @Magnus will be having a discussion in this thread then! Was quite shocked they killed off Manny so early - it's been a while since I watched series 2 - did Richard Harrow know that it was Manny who killed Angela? I forgot what happened. And that new gangster looks a mean son of a bitch. Killing a guy and stealing his dog for mocking his knowledge of oil... And Van Alden as a door-to-door iron salesman? Ha!
Magnus Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 Looks like just me and @Magnus will be having a discussion in this thread then! AAAHHH TOO MUCH PRESSURE. Was quite shocked they killed off Manny so early - it's been a while since I watched series 2 - did Richard Harrow know that it was Manny who killed Angela? I forgot what happened. I'm so glad you said that, because I had no idea who that man was or why he got killed! There are too many characters on this show. :p But yeah, I have no idea how he suddenly knew who the killer was. You'd think if he'd known all along he would have killed him earlier. Maybe he's been walking around killing people since the end of season two and just got lucky! That scene with Nucky and the thief really reminded me of that scene from The Sopranos when Tony's talking to some kid and he gives him a soda and makes him feel like everything's going to be alright. I felt really sorry for that cop guy when he didn't win the money he deserved. Apparently it would have been over $6,500 today. I kind of wanted him to kill his boss and steal his dog or something. Out of interest, do you actually remember the characters' names or do you need to look them up?
Dog-amoto Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Out of interest, do you actually remember the characters' names or do you need to look them up? No, I normally remember them - am pretty good with that. Very occasionally though I'll forget one or two minor characters.
Agent Gibbs Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 It starts saturday right? not sure how much i like it given the events of the season 2 killing off my favourite character and one of the shows most interesting ones at that! i'm not reading those spoilers until i've seen it, hope nothing else likes that happens to any other of the interesting characters, although there is a few i'd love to see be removed from the cast
Magnus Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 It started on Sunday in the US. not sure how much i like it given the events of the season 2 killing off my favourite character and one of the shows most interesting ones at that! I miss the lesbian, too. She just wanted to be happy. No, I normally remember them - am pretty good with that. Very occasionally though I'll forget one or two minor characters. Ah, okay. So it's just me getting old, then.
