EEVILMURRAY Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 That reminds me of the Sabriel/Lariel series. I don't know if anybody would know of them. Are you not confusing it with the Bartimaeus trilogy? I've been meaning to reread the Abhorsen series but I don't recall a Nathaniel.
Raining_again Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Max Power But seriously, I don't wanna change my name, its like divorcing your family and i'd feel sad
Paj! Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 Does anyone know what names their parents were going to call them, before they decided on something else? My mum wanted to call me Pablo (ew) or Zachary (yes). But then my dad decided on Henry and the deed was done.
EEVILMURRAY Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 Does anyone know what names their parents were going to call them, before they decided on something else? I was originally born Alex.
Guy Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 My parents wanted to call me Doug. If I ever have to run away and assume a fake alias, you can bet that will the name I use. Don't tell anyone this. That or Jimmy Scoop. Actually, I'd LOVE to be called Jimmy Scoop.
Diageo Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 Isn't that your name though I think this has something to do with it. Ashley Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Does anyone know what names their parents were going to call them, before they decided on something else? My mum wanted to call me Pablo (ew) or Zachary (yes). But then my dad decided on Henry and the deed was done. I was going to be called Matthew but then just before I was born some friends (or maybe cousin?) of my mother's had a child called Matthew who was born with serious disabilities (or really prematurely, I forget) and died not long after. So they called my little brother Matthew instead I think I was going to be called Christopher for a while too. Which would have been interesting when I was at Game as the manager was called Chris too. Oh and random trivia: my grandmother (dad's side) disliked my name so much that she didn't speak to my parents for months.
Fierce_LiNk Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 I think I would call myself Mian Allah Rassi Mohammed Din Muzhar Jamal Rasool Babur. You hurt me deep. Also, my Mum was adamant that I have the initials J.R. somewhere in my name, as she was a huge Dallas fan at the time. There's no story behind the other initials, though. Damn woman.
Ashley Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Did she insist on having the initials J.R. before or after he was shot?
Fierce_LiNk Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Did she insist on having the initials J.R. before or after he was shot? I'm pretty sure it was during.
Ashley Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Just checked and he was shot in 1980 and you were (ill)conceived in 1986 so your mother wanted to name you after some guy so dislikeable he was shot. Then again Ellmeister was named after Missy Elliott so it could be worse.

Then again Ellmeister was named after Missy Elliott so it could be worse. Maybe he was sooo liked that he received a shooting. Did you ever think about that, huh? Getting shot is very heroic. Yeah, she hates my guts. Anyway, I am at peace with my initials. They spell "MAR-MUD-MA-JEEEEEERB." It amuses me. He he.
Ashley Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 The initials are also an anagram of Mr. M.J. Bra (M.D.).
Paj! Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 NAME GAME The "Porn Star" name game. Now the rules vary depending on who you talk to, but the way I was taught was that it was the name of your first pet, and your first street name. So I'd be Jamie Roseburn (or Sarah Roseburn. Who knows what type of porn it is?). Which is a bit dull. If I could mix it up a bit re; the pets and streets of my life, the best I get is Boo Buckingham. Yes.
Frank Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 I think this has something to do with it. Ah, I see now. I thought it was only if a person put a gun to your head that you'd have to choose. In that case, my parents wanted to call me either Gavin(which is my name) or David so I'm not too fussed really. Both nice enough names. If I was a girl, they'd have called me Ashley...not that Ashley's a girl name :p I love names that can go with either gender like Sam.
Rummy Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 If someone put a gun to your head and said you had to change your full name by deed pole/poll then what would you call yourself? You are allowed middle/names. There's a gun to your head. Change your name, bitch. As for me, I'm not sure. I think I'd genuinely change it to Rummy, tis a name that has rather grown on me. If it wasn't so terribly nerdy and killing off the family name a bit, I'd be Rummy LeBeau.
Dannyboy-the-Dane Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 My parents have told me that had I been a girl, they'd have named me Heidi. Had I not been a boy, I'd been a Dutch blonde with pigtails. For the record, I think Heidi is a pretty name. It's just associated with a stereotype in my mind.

For the record, I think Heidi is a pretty name. It's just associated with a stereotype in my mind. Funny, because as far as I know, Heidi isn't Dutch at all. =P I just get reminded of the story Heidi, Girl of the Alps. And the cartoon. And Swiss Mountains. Had I been a boy, my name would've been Maarten. Same for my sisters. But a boy was never born so the name has never been used by my parents. =P I don't know what I would change my name into if I was forced to. I'd pick something that's a bit easier than my current name though. Even though it's super short, no one ever understands it when I say it. =(
