So because a few other people screw the system, you should also screw the system?

What a wonderful world that would be.

Politicians screw the system, why can't the public?

It's legal, i've done nothing wrong. I just didn't like the wording of the letter they sent, i don't like how the system works. "We'd rather get the small amounts than the large amounts". As a company, you would have thought they'd treat staff better than the public. But it is the opposite, the public get better than the staff.

As i said, i'll have it cleared in March and this was a way to keep them off my back for a few months. I've got the money, i just didn't like being "bullied". I could have done worse, post-dated the cheque a few months in the future.

So because one group of corrupt people does something bad, it's OK for you to do it?

I'm guessing moral high ground means very little to you.

Just because it's legal, it doesn't mean it's not wrong.

You didn't need the extra time, you've already said that you currently have the funds to pay it back. Yet you delighted in trying to "beat the system".

If you know that you'll have it cleared by March, then you could have negotiated it until May/June. Yet you got a ridiculously long email for the sake of a petty victory. And then you wonder why Inland Revenue have to send out these letters.

Politicians make the rules, they are over the news for draining the system dry. I'm not going into this whole section, i have my views on this.

If the tax office want to send letters basically "bullying" people into paying back money then would you blame anyone for trying what i've done. How can they expect anyone to pay back such an amount in full. As i've said, it's only in place for a short time to get them off my back regarding this. I've seen many people on a lot more money than me getting debts like mine paid over a long period. In light of your comment, is it right for them to do the same?

@Jimbob

Am I correct in saying that your tax is calculated via PAYE so any fuck up is with the tax office rather than yourself?

You are indeed correct, this was from a couple of years ago when i did a job for 6 months. But as i believed i was under the threshold for Tax, i didn't challenge it at the time. I get a letter a week ago saying i owe the amount mentioned earlier, i call and ask for an explanation as to how it occurred and alas it was for that job a couple of years ago. It was something to do with the council they said to me.

That would kind of be hilarious, considering jimbob works for the dole peeps.

I'm not the only one, a mate of mine in work had a letter saying he's been underpaid tax.

@Jimbob I dont see the issue then. You are paying it back afterall.

Which is what i am doing, just using the system in place which can be used to an advantage. Anyway, we'll leave it at that i think.

Most of last week was just terrible, I didn't know how I'd make it through! But then come Saturday it was actually really good. I went to my friends birthday which consisted of a casino and a few bars, i'd never been to a casino before so that was really fun! Spent £40, won £25, threw it back in and lost that too :p It was a fun ride though and with such bad luck I can't see myself getting hooked on it :p

The gay bars were also pretty awesome, had some amazing drinks, didn't get lucky but then I didn't expect to, I always 'look straight' apparently (maybe I need to flap my hand more and wear deep V tops, aye?)

But yes, a great end to a bad week.

The surest way to look gayer would be to make out with more guys, but it's a bit of a catch-22.

I got a letter a year ago saying I'd over paid tax and they very nicely included a cheque for around £1000.

As much as I would like that, I think it's easier said than done :p

He's nearing the ripe old age of 8 (somehow, I can't quite believe it) which means he has the natural old pug smell of fish and sweat if he goes a day without a bath, which may not go in my favour!

He has a doctorate now!

In me news work told me I could come back full time. My internal response was "I want to quit". Never happy.
