S.C.G Posted May 19 Posted May 19 @Julius If you're looking for a copy of Silent Hill 2 on the PS2, depending on how much you wanted to spend, and which version you wanted to get, I might have just the copy which might be of interest to you, so drop me a PM if you're interested. 1
Hero-of-Time Posted May 19 Posted May 19 @Julius Sounds like you had a good day out. Shame about that Ico set. It looks lovely. Yeah, finding the original version of Silent Hill 2 in good condition is a nightmare. I tried a couple of years ago when going through my PS2 buying phase and it's so hard to find. The later released, non platinum edition that comes in a standard box would match everything else in a collection but it's also very hard to come by. 1 1

Yep, that is the version which I have at the moment, I'm just asking around to see who's interested, as it is quite collectable. 2

Thanks Sam, I'll probably pass purely because my wallet could do with a bit of a timeout after all the Pokémon cards I picked up yesterday, but I really appreciate it! 14 hours ago, Hero-of-Time said: @Julius Sounds like you had a good day out. Yeah, it's one I've been eyeing up for a good while now and the first time I've seen it in person, so if I don't stumble across it at any of the similar events I'll probably be attending later in the year (Birmingham Toy Fair or Birmingham Comic Con), I might just be cheeky and stick it on my birthday/Christmas list I always struggle for gift ideas anyways! And yeah, no joke about that post-Plat, non-Plat version, I think I've only ever seen one up for sale online across, what, like two or so years now of keeping an eye out and occasionally actively searching for Silent Hill 2? It's crazy, and I imagine a pretty niche case where it might be even harder to find given the comparatively greater success the remake has enjoyed. It's also such a weird one where I swear no-one can seem to agree on what the best version of the game on PS2 is when it comes to wanting a physical copy otherwise (the whole Director's Cut only being in the Platinum release if I'm remembering right?), they just all agree obviously to not play the HD Collection And then I also question whether I should just play the remake instead, but where's the fun in that? I'm looking at getting a controller more suited for 2D games, but still with plenty of features for lots of remapping if needed. I'm looking at this one at the moment: I bought this controller. In terms of the controller itself, it feels really nice. In terms of the software, it's a bit disappointing for PC use so isn't quite as versatile as I expected - the back paddles can only duplicate other buttons (rather than letting you map them to a keyboard or use them as additional buttons). It still does the job, though. Apparently some of their other controllers are starting to get full Steam Input support so perhaps there will be an update in the future. Still, I can't complain, the Amazon driver lied about delivery and I got a full refund.
Happenstance Posted Thursday at 07:55 AM Posted Thursday at 07:55 AM I know some of us here buy books from Bitmap Books. Did anyone ever get the JRPG one? Was looking at picking it up and thought I’d see if there was anyone who already had it.

I have quite a few gaming books like this but ultimately I look through them once and then they sit on the shelf never to be looked at again. 1

A lot of mine are currently stacked in my wardrobe after my omnibus collection took over the bookcases. Only reason I was ok with this one was because the dimensions are small enough to go in my smaller shelf with my games.
killthenet Posted Friday at 11:15 PM Posted Friday at 11:15 PM I'm watching the latest Stop Skeletons From Fighting video (it's more of a casual one about 3D franchises with completely different GBA ports) and a random thing that bugs me every time I hear it just occurred to me - why do Americans always seem to pronounce Lara Croft as Laura Croft?
Glen-i Posted yesterday at 04:25 AM Posted yesterday at 04:25 AM (edited) 5 hours ago, killthenet said: why do Americans always seem to pronounce Lara Croft as Laura Croft? Same reason they pronounce it "Morio" and "YOOOOshi" They just assume that's what it sounds like, and refuse to be corrected whenever an official source of how it's pronounced comes along. The Yoshi one in particular annoys me, because, while it was fair enough that you'd make that assumption back in the SNES days, Yoshi has been saying it's own bloody name since Yoshi's Story, and they still get it wrong! Another good example is Pokémon names. But that one's even more hilarious, because the English dub for the anime is done by Americans, and yet American fans still end up mispronouncing some names. Two particularly egregious examples I've encountered are Suicune (Swee-koon), which I have heard people pronounce as "Soo-e-sign". Where are they getting that second i noise from, for Arceus' sake!? Oh god, speaking of Arceus! If I ever see you pronounce that Pokemon's name as "ARSE-ee-us", I will slug you! On the other hand, when the eighth generation of Pokémon came along, the pronunciation of them, as usual, fell onto the American anime dub. But because that generation is heavily inspired by the UK, some of the official pronunciations they settled on are enough to make my skin crawl. Edited yesterday at 04:50 AM by Glen-i 1 2
Ashley Posted yesterday at 05:53 AM Posted yesterday at 05:53 AM The Mario one kind of makes sense in that they're using a long a (I think, my linguistic days are long past) which is more common in accents than it is here. Although it does amuse me that a lot of them class themselves as Italian as their great grandparents emigrated from there but mispronounce a common Italian name. 1 hour ago, Glen-i said: Oh god, speaking of Arceus! Happenstance Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I did end up getting the JRPG book from Bitmap Books. Looks like it should be a lot of fun reading through it while I play all these games I bought. Also, first page I opened it on randomly…the book knows me so well!
