The text does have a point. It would be way too late to protect it against this sort of stuff, but would they really go for another thing with 'ii' in it. This way, the casual market will still be familiar with it. Could that be their plan?

My instinct is, yes, it's the Wii 2. As Fused King says, it's quite late to just be protection against rip-offs. Plus, existing laws would stop the rip-offs, it's probably more that they're sold in areas where Nintendo can't enforce Japanese law.

You can see the logo from a mile off- 2ii - kind of thing

I'm not so sure. You could call it 'Gibbons' and just add a strapline 'from the makers of Wii' and it'll sell.

But codenames are alwys being banded about; Starcube, anyone?

Engadget.com - Zii,Bii,Oii,Cii and Yii

We've done a bit more digging, and it looks as if this here filing may simply be a renewal of a 2006 trademark request. Moreover, we've found Nintendo trademarks in Japan for Cii, Bii, Oii and Yii, so it seems the company may just be on some sort of rampage in order to cover its tracks in one form or another.

A bit to late of Nintendo to stop others making gadgets that sound like Wii because of the Creative Zii and http://www.Zii.com.

I wasn't really thinking when when I made my first post. Just ignore it. Trademarking names like this in general doesn't mean much. They're just getting an idea someone had trademarked in case they want to use it.

Zii is Italian for uncles. Maybe its a game about Mario and Luigi looking after Baby Mario and Baby Luigi :p

Or it could be Zelda Wii compounded.

Or it could be a foiler.

Probably for a Sleep Vitality Sensor 'game'... zzzzzz (zii)... clever!

Haha, that's actually pretty clever. Well done. I can tell you were chuffed with that one.

Super Craptoid could be your big launch game.

I dunno, I think a sequel to Donkey Bollocks 64 would be worthy of a launch game. :heh:

How many of Nintendo's patents or trademarks actually materialise into commercial products or such? They trademark a lot of stuff like this to just cover their backs. It could be like Emasher says, to prevent a "rip-off" or dodgey product being released that is similar to the Wii.

crapTROID lets get it right here people :D

How about Haemorrhoid Prime then?

I dunno, I think a sequel to Donkey Bollocks 64 would be worthy of a launch game. :heh:

I'll give you that one seeing as its Christmas... and it was bollocks. :)

The Nintendo Oii.

Nintendo have learnt that you can call the console anything and it will still sell, so my picks for the next console are:

Nintendo Together

Nintendo All4One

Nintendo FamiVidGamCon

or my personal fave:

'The Nintendo'

But it's by far the best Donkey Kong game.

I vote Nintendo Peter for the next name.

All joking aside, Zii could very well be some kind of logo for Zelda Wii (like the film Independence Day became known informally as ID4). They might already have some logos prepared.
