Retro_Link Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Yeah I thought about that when writing my C.V. I left it off in the end but yeah make it sound good... - no. of visitors - one of europes leading video game based websites etc...
Dan_Dare Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 out of interest would you include your position as a moderator, writer, troll etc on n-europe on your cv ? its a position of great responsibility but then again... I include my various web contributions alongside my magazine publications on my c.v but I'd never put my mod status down. It's trivial and hobbyist- it doesn't relate to work.
nightwolf Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 I'll take a look if you like. Despite my less than stellar employment record I actually have a great C.V :P I'm back to my wonderful desktop tomorrow so i'll pester you about it then.
Jimbob Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Some people who are looking out for work as well as me are really dull, stupid and idiotic. I recieved job details today where there is no possible way to get there via public transport and it is situated on an impossible stretch of road where there is no possible way of getting there via own transport either (by the Coldra). And this particular person does not believe me when i told them how bad it is to get there.
EEVILMURRAY Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 (edited) I don't expect it to be too bad, though, working at McDonald's does have that reputation of being the lowest of the low. Where people who left school with shit grades end up and all that. : That's wrong. It's building apprenticeships that they go for. EDIT: The local Sainsbury's are wanting people agains, but they're all late nights, which wasn't surprising. However they all take out Friday and Saturday even worse than they do to me now [11pm-7am] HOWEVAAAH! The local Toy's R Us are looking for people, which isn't bad considering the amount of times the missus and I have been recently. The only problem is it's kinda outta the way. Plus the hours are semi vague... 10-16+ a week. :s Edited August 4, 2009 by EEVILMURRAY
Ashley Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 I wondered past the Disney Store earlier and noticed they had a general "Manages Wanted Nationwide" so I asked inside and she said to come back at 5 as the manager was out. So at 5:20 I went in and manager still on her lunch (sounds like a typical manager's lunch) but to drop in a CV. But looking on the site I can do it there, and imagine it will be more useful doing that. Disney Store could be fun...could be awful. But it probably includes discount ^_^

Eenuh Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 Disney Store! That sounds so awesome; I'd definitely work there if I could, but I don't think we even have one anywhere around here. =(
Roostophe Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 Applied for my two nearest McDonald's, been rejected by both. You're seriously screwed if even McDonald's won't have you... Fuck it, I'm gonna apply for more of them. See if I can get at least one...
blender Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 Applied for my two nearest McDonald's, been rejected by both. thats a rejection letter worth hanging on to.

That sounds so awesome; I'd definitely work there if I could, but I don't think we even have one anywhere around here. =( Discount is all mine! :p See im in two minds, on the one hand I think it could be silly childish fun and just something a bit different from the usual retail job...on the other hand it could be screaming kids and HSM. They ask for you to include your current pay on the covering letter. I'm just planning to say how much I was paid at Game as that was my last managerial job but as I was assistant manager by default I was still being paid shiftleader pay...but think I should put what assistant managers were on anyway (as it was about 3 times as much). And they ask what your expectations are...shall I just include the previous paragraph? :p Applied for my two nearest McDonald's, been rejected by both. You're seriously screwed if even McDonald's won't have you... Fuck it, I'm gonna apply for more of them. See if I can get at least one... That was speedy of them 0_o I got a rejection email from BBC the other day for some work experience scheme I applied for 2 months ago.

You've got to worry when your rejected from kfc, not mcD's
EEVILMURRAY Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 I got a rejection email from BBC the other day for some work experience scheme I applied for 2 months ago. I've had a few of those. Doesn't stop me applying whenever another placement opens again.
Fierce_LiNk Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 Working in the Disney shop would be awesome, hehe. Ok, I've now applied, registered and signed up with three teaching agencies in Cardiff. So, hopefully they'll be able to pick me up some Supply Work or maybe even some permanent work if something comes up in September. There were three teaching jobs added today. One was for a solely-Welsh speaking School, one was part time covering a few teachers for a few hours a week, and the other was another teaching agency. Even if I applied for these, I'm not going to be here anyway in the next few weeks, as I'll seeing Ine. Gah, I need work.
Ashley Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 You stay here and work and I'll go visit Ine. You know Ine will be happier that way too
Fierce_LiNk Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 You stay here and work and I'll go visit Ine. You know Ine will be happier that way too You are far too pale to please my female.
Fierce_LiNk Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 Haha, that's quite funny because Ash showed me a video with 40 or so of those Kelso burns, hehe. Ash: NO DEAL. It's not gonna happen, mon frere. Although, if you would like to look for work pour moi, whilst I visit the female, then that would be lovely. Yes? No?
Ashley Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 Okay but don't blame me if porn starts cropping up staring Jim Jahool Beezlebard Fuddlydink Wackamole Tomato Sauce Pikachu Confused.com Deidre Smellyface Robert Babur (that's your full name yes?)
Paj! Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 I decided I need a lovely job. However, I can only do it on the weekends, maybe just one day a week or something. I can't do my art course and hold down a job for too many nights as well. My friend used to work in Ocean Terminal, and said that she just asked for a list of available jobs.

Close Enough. The name Tallulah is in there somewhere, too.
Dyson Posted August 5, 2009 Author Posted August 5, 2009 A games testing company got back to me yesterday offering me an interview after I enquired about positions a month and a half ago. I sent back an email saying I appreciate it but I'm no longer looking for employment, and I regret it already. HMV was supposed to be a holding job until something that interests me comes along. Bleh. Then again, the job was being signed on as a contractor to test games and being "on call" so to speak but damn that'd have been right up my street.
nightwolf Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 There's no harm in enquiring if the offer still stands, explaining your situation (say at the time you weren't able to take up the job offer, rather than saying you dismissed it for another job) and see what they say, doesn't hurt to get a no really does it?
Dan_Dare Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 I think you'd be happier at HMV Dyson. Everything I've heard about Games Testing makes it sound pretty unpleasant work. one story I heard was from GTAIV: some guy had to walk around Liberty City on foot and walk in to every single door in the game to make sure players wouldn't walk through the scenery when they released it. that was his job. 9-5.
