Dante Posted January 22, 2009 Author Posted January 22, 2009 When's this game out in Japan [with the Crystal Bearers new trailer]? From a page back: Square Enix has released a video of its upcoming RPG Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles : Echoes of Time playable on the Wii and Nintendo DS. The game is set to release on January 29 in Japan

Hero-of-Time Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 What kind of piece of junk is this? I thought I could play with other people on the Wii! Only one Wii can be used in cooperative play — with three other DS — and it must be the host. You can play with four DSs, though, so all is not lost, but Wii users cannot play with other Wii users - G4 We posted up G4’s preview earlier this week, but this is an important bit of information that shouldn’t be glossed over. Does this change your purchase intent?
Zechs Merquise Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 What kind of piece of junk is this? I thought I could play with other people on the Wii! Unbelievable!!! I thought this was fully online and you could play with anyone on Wii or DS regardless of the system you were playing on? This is utter crap if it's true.
S.C.G Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 *shrugs* I'd go for the DS version then... not many will get it for the Wii in comparison so it'll probably even out, still a blow I guess but what did you expect from Square? They have taken over five years to deliver a FF:CC game thats properly online afterall, I didn't expect that it would be perfect lol. It does look a hell of a lot of fun though I remember the original rather fondly so I may pick this up.
Fierce_LiNk Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Couldn't that just mean that if you had 4 Wiis in a room (Which is unlikely) you wouldn't be able to connect? But, if you had a Wii and 3 DSs, that is fine? I think the big point there is that you're all in the same room. At least, this is what I interpreted from that. I'm probably wrong, though.

Yeah you could be right. I have been looking for an answer to this on various websites but can't find one. I do hope your right Flinky as I was really looking forward to playing this online with the Wii. Edit: Looks like everything is alright. http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/final-fantasy-crystal-chronicles–echoes-of-time-available-in-pal-territories-next-spring–spring–spring “• 2-4 player multi-play through Nintendo Wi-Fi & Wireless Communication mode. • Over Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection: 4 players max (any mixture of Wii and Nintendo DS hardware). • Wireless Communication: 4 players max (either up to 4 players on Nintendo DS hardware, or alternatively 1 Wii hosting up to three Nintendo DS players).” You’ll be able to play both Ad Hoc (local network) and Infrastructure (over the internet via Nintendo WiFi) with any combination of Wii’s and DS’s. This truly is a first, and I’m sincerely looking forward to it.
ShadowV7 Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Yeah it was just as flinky said. We posted that bit of information when it got announced for Europe. 1 Wii hosting and having 3 DS's link up for co-op. If I get this it'll still be for the DS though.
Fierce_LiNk Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 So, all is well in the universe. Now, all we need is Stuwii to create a thread somehow related to Fifa 2009, and everything will be back to normal.
darksnowman Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 The graphics actually have a surprising charm to them. Saving cows from UFO's ftw!
Sheikah Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Christ, the Wii version is pretty much just like the DS version in presentation? What a lazy effort. CC has really had its day now, and lets face it; there was never much there to begin with. It's a really basic series. Definite avoid for me.

It would also have been an amazing game had it been released on the Wii with online rather than that idiotic GBA connectivity rubbish. FF:CC is one of the few games that is crying out for a Wii release.
Hero-of-Time Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 I thought Rings of Fates on the DS was a great little game, easily worth the tenner I paid for it when Play.com were selling it off. I went through the game 3 times as it was short but very sweet. Im really looking forward to this, still undecided whether to snap it up on the Wii or the DS. Im not big on handheld gaming but im unsure as to how good the controls will be on the Wii version.

The orignal was a beautifully presented game with some interesting gameplay elements I thought. This looks cack however.
killer kirby Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 CC has really had its day now, and lets face it; there was never much there to begin with. Just like all the main line Final Fantasy games starting from Final Fantasy X and the Kingdom Hearts series. I should also mention all the shitty ass sequels/prequels to the Final Fantasy VII. Yeah, not getting this game unless I decide to get it for the DS, other then that, give me the proper Wii version of the new CC please S-E ^_^
Sheikah Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 (edited) The original CC looked good but there was actually very little to it. The battle system is pretty much mastered inside 5 minutes, and almost all the dungeons involved the same sort of puzzles. Dragging out the same gameplay and weak storylines over 3 titles is really pushing it. Also, comparing CC to mainstream FF titles is a bit of a joke really. Except maybe XI. You can tell that a lot of work goes into the gameplay, level up system, storyline and character creation (and usually subsequent development) in games such as X and XII. The characters in CC are pretty void of personality (sometimes even random) and the story for the first one was to just stop the miasma invading the towns. Edited March 23, 2009 by Sheikah
Hero-of-Time Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Ive spent about an hour on this since buying it this morning and so far im loving it to bits. It plays just like Ring of Fates on the DS but having it on a 37inch TV is making it that bit more enjoyable. At the moment im on my 1st real quest after doing the coming of age task which is essentially a tutorial. After that I made my way into the first town and found that you can hire people to add to your squad or you can go it alone. A little guy with a pot on his head was running around town, I was going to hire him but I thought sod it and just went on the quest by myself. Speaking of quests there is a moogle in town which can set you up with quests/tasks outside of the main storyline. I havent attempted any yet but I have been unlocking quite a few just by talking to people and reading signs around the different areas. I was worried about how the controls would work out on the Wii and im glad to say they work out fine. You use the nunchuck to move around, A to attack, B to jump and Z to pick up items. To use magic you hold down the C button and then release on the target, if you want to select a different spell just tap left or right on the d-pad. I have't played online yet but I checked out what was on offer. You can hook up with friends that are online or like Mario Kart search for quests/matches that are worldwide and continental. Im still trying to find my FC though I doubt many will buy this game especially the Wii version but im enjoying it so thats all that matters Its a shame as it would really be a fun experience online, like a mini version of PSO. I think Eurogamer said it best in their review, if you go in knowing that you have essentially bought a DS game on the Wii you will enjoy the experience. One last thing, I assume we didnt get the CC: Crystal Bearers trailer on our disc as I have looked around for it but it doesnt appear to be there
Ike Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 To find out your FC, go to a Crystal, activate multiplayer, select Nintendo WFC select Friend Menu then friend roster. The DS version shows your FC on the top screen so it should be around there somewhere. My FC is: 5411-6410-8437 I'm on DS so you'll need to host it if you want to try out online.
Ganepark32 Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 @ Hero of Time - I believe you have to complete this to unlock the Crystal Bearers trailer. Believe that's how it was done when the Japanese version was released.
