Charlie
So the Olympics official opening ceremony starts this afternoon at 1pm BST (8PM in China, which apparently is very lucky). Who's going to be watching the Olympics? I personally love them because you get a chance to watch sports you'd never normally get to see. Britain have quite a few medal hopes, perhaps everyone's favourite being Tom Daley the 14 year old diver who's competing in the men's 10m synchro at 0730-0825 BST, BBC1 on Monday morning. I know for sure I'll be getting up early to watch that, if I've gone to bed at all that is. I can feel a few all-nighters coming on. Dan_Dare
I think I'll be dabbling this year. Not much one for sport much but I quite like some of the events. but yeah- they're starting at 8 mins past 8 on August 8th. Kinda cool

Tales
I'm going to watch the opening ceremony, but I'm not sure if I will be able to watch anything else. If it isn't aired in the middle of night I want to watch tennis, female football and beach volley. Norway compete in football and volley, medal hope in football. I thought the minimum age was sixteen?
Fresh
Does anyone know if the whole of the Olympics will be on BBC HD?

EEVILMURRAY
That's 2012 dude. We're preparing now because we're pr0 apparently. Won't be watching it I think, bores me like most sports.

KKOB
Wooo! Been looking forward to this opening ceremony for the past four years. Ever since the Athens one was as boring as hell, and we were given a taste of China in the Athens closing ceremony. Wooooooo!! Although i hate china's political decissions what with Tibet, and Hong Kong and loads of other things they've done wrong, China is still a country with one of the richest cultures and history on the planet. Jonnas
Nah, pretty sure its 2008 tbh. Your problem, Rez, is that we never know wether you're joking, or just saying something really stupid. Anyway, here's hoping Portugal can win some medals.
Mokong
I've set up the Dvd recorder to record the opening ceremony so I can watch it when I get home later. I'm looking forward to it as I always do. But I fear this year it will be overshadowed by all the political issues which would be a shame. Fingers crossed Ireland gets a medal or two (with no drug issues invovled this time please) Here's a youtube rant I did pre-olympic last night

Emasher
I'll probably watch the opening ceremony during a re-broadcast. (Seeing as I've already missed about 3/4 of it). I'll probably only watch other stuff if someone else turns it on.
gaggle64
I like to watch the Olympic games, as others have said, it's always great to see new and unfamiliar sports, and it's great to watch the best in the world doing their thing. Also, the BBC's promotional for it this year is just sublime.

weeyellowbloke
Great though it is I found it ultimately disappointing. An animated Monkey series would be awesome. If they brought back Monkey, has to have the cheeky rewritten scripts as well, as an animated series I would be so excited I might very well explode. Anyway I'll be watching tonight, but I can't shake this nagging feeling something will go dreadfully wrong at this Olympics.
Cube
I'll probably only watch it if I'm too lazy to change the channel.

conzer16
I'm boycotting the Olympics due to China's abuse of it's own citizens human rights while the IOC and the rest of the world turn a blind eye and instead cast their gaze on an opening ceremony that takes place on the mutil-million euro investment site of 5000 Beijing citizens former homes. It's just reeks of double standards - this whole Olympis Games, not just the opening ceremony.
Charlie
That was pretty cool just there running around the stadium, nothing on Barcelona '92 though. Coolest lighting of the flame ever.

It's just reeks of double standards - this whole Olympis Games, not just the opening ceremony. Plus all the pollution from the fireworks. You know, I think they did it right with the Pan Am games in Winnipeg back in 99. They had the opening ceremony in the already built stadium, just had some basic entertainment that you would expect, and didn't go overboard on the fireworks. Instead of having all sorts of fancy lights everywhere, they just gave everyone in the audience a sheet of foil and got them to hold it up at certain times. The olympics would probably be fine just doing something more low-scale like that. Its become something that it wasn't originally intended to be. D_prOdigy
That opening ceremony was superb. Shame we all know London's will be not as good by +4. I think the BBC promotion was done by Daman Albarn, actually...
