Fierce_LiNk Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 3 penalties for Turkey. Croatia have only scored one! They need to score the next to stay in the shootout, otherwise Turkey are through. No pressure on the next kicker, like. AND RUSHTU SAVES! Turkey are through.
tapedeck Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Turkey...jammy jammy jammy dodgers. They are like Greece. Shite but somehow win.
Fierce_LiNk Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Turkey...jammy jammy jammy dodgers. They are like Greece. Shite but somehow win. Half of everything is luck, James. They're jammy, but they kinda symbolise football...never write any team off. They'll come back to bite you in the buh-ttocks later. Never say die! Still, through the entire match, Croatia were the better team. They must be feeling pretty gutted. But, if you don't finish teams off by scoring goals, you run the risk of being punished yourself, and that's what has happened here.
Haden Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Godamit one semi final is now populated by teams I dont want to win the euros Im hoping Germany destroy Turkey though.
darksnowman Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 I would say that Germany are gonna pick them apart... but who knows. Croatia left it as late as possible to take the lead and Turkey still pegged them back.
Fierce_LiNk Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 I've got a feeling that Germany will obliterate Turkey. Especially because Turkey are going to be missing a couple of key players. Volkan is still out through suspension, right? So is Tuncay and Arda. That's three key players, against a very strong and ever-improving Germany side.
Shino Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 What a load of crap. I have nothing against Turkey, but this is one of the reasons to hate football.
Roostophe Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Shino: But, as the old saying goes: "That's football!"
Fierce_LiNk Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 You are right, Mr. Villan. It's annoying when your team battles for 90 minutes and still manages to lose, but thats why you need to take your chances. Croatia didn't take theirs, or they didn't take enough of them. That's why teams like Germany and Holland try to win games by clear margins, it means that even if the other team does sneak a goal, you'll still be ok.
Gizmo Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 I knew there was a reason I sat through the first 119 minutes of that. I wanted Croatia to win but I actually punched the air when Turkey equalized, then sat with my mouth wide open watching the replay. Unbelievable. Germany will beat them in the semi though, they're missing so many players.
Shino Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 With this kind of divine luck they might very well beat the Germans. Portugal beats Turkey, Croatia beats Germany, and guess who gets to the semi finals...
Blue_Ninja0 Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Half of everything is luck, James. And the other half? FATE And neither of them was on our side.
killthenet Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Best tournement I have ever witnessed. These last 5 games are going to be gold as well.
flameboy Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Well gutted that my boys Croatia got knocked out and can't really believe it! They had literally won. I knew they wouldn't win the shoot out, They obviously couldn't pick themselves up and most of their takers looked scared and nervous. Rustu got a let off as his clanger for the goal was ridiculous.
Deathjam Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 reading these posts allowed me to relive the great end to a crap match yesterday. But what happens when two teams that can never be written off go head-to-head?
weeyellowbloke Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 I reckon this is one of the best tournaments since France '98 which is odd seeing as there are no British teams to support in it. I think it's just refreshing to enjoy games from an unbiased perspective without massive amounts of media hyperbole and commentators mentioning Englands chances of winning every single game. Having said that it I've still seen updates on Englands training and interviews with Capello at half time in some games, despite it having absolutely nothing to do with the match in question. Was totally gutted for Croatia yesterday, they completely deserved to go through. Bloody lucky Turks, that shot game out of nowhere.

And yeah, the lack of pressure and england bias has made it far more enjoyable.
DCK Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Totally undeserved win for Turkey. Yes. I don't think they stand a chance against Germany, and that says something. Great ending though!
gmac Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 tonights match should be interesting, I can see Russia beating Holland, should be a really good game anyway, two attack minded teams with suspect defences, I'll go for 3-2 Russia
BlueStar Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Cracking comeback for Turkey, they deserved at least the penalties for not giving up, pushing up and managing to get that shot in, then they held their nerve in the shootout. Not sure why people think it was undeserved.
Fierce_LiNk Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 My tip to win this tournament has always been Holland, and I expect them to overcome Russia tonight. I think there's just too much quality for Russia to compete with defensively. 3 - 0 Holland.
darksnowman Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Russia are still hanging in there- I'm going for them in this one purely cos they are the underdogs and because of Hiddink. I don't dislike the Dutch at all, but well, the hype gathering around them just makes me wanna rebel and support mother Russia! Harrasho!
