I was just having a looksee around the retro section on IGN, and I see that they are featuring their original Mario Party review as its recently been nine years since it released in the US.

If you wanna read the review it can be found here.

I only own Mario Party 3 and I think I've only played 1, 3 and 4 with the first and fourth being my favoured out of those three. The third is probably just as good (and bad) as the others but at the time I bought it just wasn't a good period for it and I never got into it.

The first one I played to death. I borrowed it off a friend for what must've been ages and it was a game I could get my sisters to play with me, and even my cousin for some four player. We did the whole caper of destroying your hands trying to get high scores- the mini game where you have to spin the joystick and see how long you can keep the Shyguy afloat was the worst offender!

Even though its become a much of a muchness nowadays, it did have a promising start almost a decade ago. What are your thoughts and memories?

I used to love the series to bits and have played all of them except for number 3 and the recently released DS version. Number 2 is regarded as the best in the series and out of the ones I have played I can easily agree with that.

The series has really become stale now though and I think that if they do decide to carry the series on they should really include online play. The game isnt the best when playing by yourself so adding the online option would be a great step foward. Saying that unless Nintendo release a headset for the Wii it would be just like playing the A.I. so it would be pretty much pointless.

Yeah, true Hero, its a boring boring game to have to play alone. Having said that, me and my sister were so hardcore we even did a few games where you play for the maximum amount of turns on Mario Party 1. Was that 70 turns? o.O So its an ok game as long as you aren't playing alone!

Number two is the one with the cowboy Mario on the cover? After overkilling it with the original Mario Party I never made an effort to buy this or lend it off anyone, so when the third released I thought I was ready to get back to it. But it just didn't happen for me- I saw there was a snow/ Christmas themed board and thought I couldn't go wrong...

I had (and still have now that I think about it) the second in the series, I asked for it for christmas after playing and loving the first one at my cousins house. I seem to remember it having a pretty large mix of minigames, but really they were only good in 4 person multiplayer. Wasn't bad with two, but the AI was always so shit that you really needed four to enjoy it fully.

Also: We always played with bonus stars on. They were awesome, many times I grabbed victory from the jaws of defeat purely because I had at one point collected the most coins.

I never played the N64 Mario Parties until after playing the GC ones. :)

The first one i was introduced to was Mario Party 4 and i thought it was great. I rented it a few times and played it to death with my friend we new the mini games backwards and as it was my first Mario Party experience i thought the mini games were fun and orginal.

Then when Mario Party 5 was released i bought it straight away and thought it improved upon 4 with some classic mini games such as pushy pushy pengunis and catch the monkeys (or whatever it was called!) and dinger derby I loved the decathlon mode as well and have beaten anyone who's dared challenge me.

The problem is it is great fun in multiplayer but in single player it isn't as good. Also after awhile you just play it for the Mini games and not the whole board thing. I skipped Mario Party 6 and borrowed Mario Party 7.

It isn't that good the mini games feel old and the Wiimote does little to liven things up. I think it's because since then i have experienced better mini game compilations such as Warioware and Mario Party no longer holds up.

I still believe it was a good series but i agree with HoT it is stale they need to think how to make it fresh again or just let it die.

I have had some awesome Multiplayer moments though which i will always remember.

I remember being totally hyped for Mario Party since seeing it in an issue of NOM a few months after getting my Nintendo 64. I was expecting Game and Watch style mini games at first though, but fell in love with the game after a few play's. Many Sunday afternoon's were wasted, playing 3 player mode at a friends house, and sometimes at home my mum would join in! Sigh, good times indeed.

I did purchase No.4 but sold it soon afterwards as most my friends had grown out of gaming and the single player didn't appeal to me no-more. In future, I may purchase No. 2 or 3 if they become available on the VC,or the DS version if I see it at a good price as I've heard many good things about it.

Next Mario Party should use the Balance Board.

I was a bit gutted with the Wii version. It was an excellent opportunity to drag it into brilliance. (I haven't liked it since Mario Party 1!) But the recent DS version is an excellent addition to the series. Even with the strange combo of buttons AND stylus games. It should have ALL been stylus surely?! Ah well...

The genius of the DS version is in the single-card download play. The next Wii version should really be a lot better as Hudson get "used" to the Wii.

Here's hoping.

I had 5, really liked it, then sold it, then regretted it.

Really is a multiplayer only experience. Unless you love the sound of bowser juniors played 50 times within a minute

Anybody played leaf leap?

cant remember but my sis was always better than me. Were the scores in the 30's 60's or 80's? Great minigame. So were the ones where you had to dodge the electric balls from mario 64. Tbh many were duds but a couple were genious. I want to play it again!

God knows why but I played on that robot vs thing for a while even though it sucked!

I remember, in an effort to milk the 3-day rental, unplugging the pad from teh #1 slot, plugging it into the #2/3/4 slots and changing the computer players to human players on the last go, so that I could get all their coins and starts... Bit of a cheat, I admit!

I thought the mini games were ace, and I actually quited liked the premise of the game, but I think nintendo got a bit too focused on the prospect of the franchise becoming a cash cow, and thus missed the point completely. But hey, I'm sure wario ware has the minigames to thank, on some level?

I remember how badly i wanted this and was excited by it , must have been about 10 it was summerish and last year of primary, It seemed so new and fresh and just brilliant , and when i got it it was brilliant ! i even enjoyed 1 player playing mini game island , that was quite a good mode

didnt bother with 2/3 , returned to 4th for the gc which was so-so but i didnt play it too much , then havent played 5,6,7,8....... i dont really have anyone to play with alot now so theres not alot of point as it gets poor reviews for 1 player expereince .

But is shall always remember number 1 , first and bestest:bowdown:
