flameboy Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Funnily enough, they've just released an update browser in the new firmware. Paypal might work now, apparently Youtube works. yah just read this pretty cool. I wonder how much better...theres certain things I hope now work like watching football and stuff...
Ashley Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 All this updating nonsense is starting to annoy me already! Plug the PS3 in...update for 20 minutes. Put LBP in...update for 30 minutes. Play it this morning...update for 10 minutes (bad timing, I know). Put Heavy Rain in...update for over two hours!!

Play it this morning...update for 10 minutes (bad timing, I know). Put Heavy Rain in...update for over two hours!! For me the PS3 has always updated so much slower than the 360 but yeah by getting older games which have been patched a lot does bring a lot of waiting...
Cube Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 The 360 (until very recently) also had a update size of 4MB. A lot of PS3 games have much bigger file sizes for patches.
Aimless Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 For the real worst case scenario you should have whacked in GT5, too. Typically game updates are much more manageable, but retail copies of LBP haven't been updated for years — the nature of the game necessitating new assets to be downloaded somewhat regularly — and Heavy Rain had a huge patch to add in Move support. When updates are large it's usually for a good reason, and often because you're getting something for free, but I can certainly appreciate how they can be annoying. So long as you don't mind playing offline you can always press Cricle to cancel the update, whereupon the game will boot un-patched but you'll be disconnected from PSN for obvious reasons.
Happenstance Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 I think its because the PS3 doesnt have a size limit on patches where as the 360 does. Unfortunately having to get big game patches all at the same time is just a consequence of getting games so long after they come out and something we all have to live with these days.

I'm fairly sure sometimes I've pressed circle to an update and I've stayed signed in to PSN (could see all my friends online anyway). I know that's not the case for the 360, but I think it just stops you playing online rather than actually disconnecting you?
LegoMan1031 Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Getting an early copy of burnout paradise would be another one for loads of updates! But you get loads of cool shit for free!
Happenstance Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 You should get DC Universe Online, then you get the pleasure of downloading 17 gigs before you can play it :p
Debug Mode Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Is any one watching the current season of The Tester? Despite a lot of cringe worthy material and how scripted the shots seem to be, it's pretty funny and some of the contestants are just so ridiculous that it keeps me watching. It's also incredibly funny how they've glamoured up the job of a game tester as I've got friends in Studio Liverpool who would love to say otherwise haha They've taken Egoraptor too seriously though. Any one who's known of him for a while will know that he is incredibly sarcastic and quite humble and would be genuinely good for the job being offered.
Jamba Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Funnily enough, they've just released an update browser in the new firmware. Paypal might work now, apparently Youtube works. Yeah maybe... can you DL the update to a USB key? They won't be able to get the update unless they can connect to the internet!

Ike Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Yeah maybe... can you DL the update to a USB key? They won't be able to get the update unless they can connect to the internet! Yeah you can download it from here. It's needs to go in a folder called /PS3/UPDATE otherwise the PS3 won't recognise it.
Deathjam Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Think my ps3 has officially died. Been trying to turn it on for the last half hour but it doesn't start, yellow light flashes, beeps, then red light Knew this days was coming but still hurts that it's here and I am not too keen on buying another as I have just spent a ton building a new pc that wont boot cos of incompatible ram that I have to send back. Bad day.
Deathjam Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Thats sad. Good luck Not very good reliability going by this thread. Worth it though. I think we have had another gig and half since Spec 2 now. Automatic update saves me plenty of time. Nah it revived itself again. And computer not booting was my fault so it's all good.
Aimless Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Is it an original model PS3? If so I wouldn't count on that revival lasting; my 60GB came back to life several times before finally biting the dust.

I did the hair dryer trick and lasted 3 days before being done for good. Incidentally I've started watching broken PS3's on ebay to see how much they go for may sell mine...

Cube Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 (edited) Speaking of that, do PS1 classics work on the Vita? Edit: Also, what about the PlayStation Minis (they were playable on PSP, right)? Edited February 15, 2012 by Cube
S.C.G Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 I would only class about five of those titles as actual 'classics' the rest seem passable but it's good to see some PS2 games available for download though I'll be sticking with actual discs for now.
Happenstance Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Ps1 games will work eventually on Vita but not on launch, its something they're working on. Not sure if anything has been said about ps2 games.
Cube Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 That's annoying - stuff like the Crash games would be more suited to a handheld. Hopefully it won't be too long.
S.C.G Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Indeed if they are now going to be making more PS2 games available on PSN then wouldn't it make sense to make more import games available like for instance Tales of The Abyss that you could then - eventually - transfer to your Vita... seems like a good idea given the popularity of the 3DS re-release.
Deathjam Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Looks like Guild Wars 2 is coming to consoles. Systems are not mentioned but PS3 is likely given the hardware and prior Ncsoft deal. Think I will just use my ps3 pad on my pc thanks but it pretty much confirms the game can be played with a pad which is very pleasing. Could even use the ps3 text pad or w/e it's called for typing purposes. Wait a min, where is your linky for proof and further reading? Is it an original model PS3? If so I wouldn't count on that revival lasting; my 60GB came back to life several times before finally biting the dust. Yeah I suspect it's on it's last legs but it's been like this for a year now and weirdly, the more that I use the machine, the better it performs. If I leave it off for a month for example, then this problem returns. PS2 Classics finally coming to PSN today, here is the selection available from later today: Sorry for double post but that's a really crappy selection apart from maximo and This is what choze is on about.
