I found out that with a firmware update the Steam Controller supports bluetooth. So over the weekend I've been messing about with that combined with Steam Link and my phone, and it works pretty decent. Streamed a couple of games from PC to my phone that way while playing with the Steam Controller. It's pretty weird playing high graphics games like Killer Instinct or Shadow of the Tomb Raider on your phone!

So my next step will be to see if I can make Epic Store games work through Steam Link streaming. I have a number of indie games on the Epic Store from the weekly free claims, but I prefer to play in the living room on the couch instead of in my work room where the PC is. Also the misses often uses the TV so being able to play handheld would be pretty sweet. That way I won't have to buy all those indies on Switch to play handheld.

If I can get that to work I'm going to try to find a fitting phone mount for the Steam Controller. There are a few 3D print models out there like shown below, but I think on Amazon there are options made for the XBox/PS controllers that fit on the Steam Controller as well. And with that I should have the option to play my PC library anywhere!d7b70b7f4bdaa8368e6fbc0ed288ea62_preview

Edit: I followed the guide on this website and it works! I can now launch Epic Store games through the Steam Link app and they run. Gave Abzu a quick test and so far so good.

Xbox unsurprisingly continuing to push hard on PC, cutting their fees from sales down to 12% from 30%, bringing them in line with the Epic Games Store.

Hopefully they'll eventually include "player first" important features like allowing players to edit files (especially configuration files) and also actually delete game files when you uninstall them.

I’m kind of back on to my thoughts from the end of last year to build myself a gaming PC. Is there any reason to hold off for big things coming in the near future or is now a good time to jump in?

The biggest reason to hold off is still the price of things like graphics cards with all the shortages and crypto miners buying stuff. Things are way more expensive than they should be right now.

Yeah that’s definitely a consideration. Hoping I can get something through work which makes that one a little easier. Otherwise I guess I’m good to go for it? Wasn’t sure if I’d be hitting it just before some huge change that I’d regret not waiting for.

It's impossible to know how long the supply issues and crypto usage will keep prices inflated. I personally don't see anything as big as RTX cards or super fast SSDs happening anytime soon (other than both options slowly getting more affordable).

Edit: By that, I mean something new that's as impactful as those things.

The new super ARtx cards are rumoured to come out soon and they're supposed to project games into reality. The porn industry is all excited at the moment for them.

This is awesome! Here's hoping we'll see more games added to the list in the coming months. E3 might be a good time to drop some good titles.

I dream of playing Returnal, God of War, Spider-Man, Uncharted and maybe some PSVR titles, but it might be a bit too optimistic :heh:

This is a bit late but, personally, I'd hold off as long as possible. I mean, if you need a new computer, go buy a new computer, but if you don't.. The market is simply terrible right now.

I could really use a new computer, but don't have the money for it right now, I'm saving up. Even if I did, I'd refuse to pay twice as much and wait 6 months for a videocard. I've heard plenty of horror stories of people getting in (relatively) early, ordered a videocard for a "normal" price, but then have their orders cancelled after some time, even if they have the cards available, but they won't sell 'm anymore for the old "normal" price. This is technically illegal over here, but all shops seem to be doing it. Although they most likely have little choice, as the manufacturers set the new prices.

I'm hoping this shit will be over by the time I've saved up enough.

Yeah I think you’re probably right on that. I definitely don’t need one anytime soon, just something I want and has been on my to-buy list for a while. I think waiting for the prices and availability to come back to something sane is best, don’t want to waste money.

Guess I’ll stick with the PS5 for now.

So Windows 11 needs TPM 2.0 to be enabled to be able to be installed, unless they change the requirements, which it doesn't look like my CPU supports (the checker tool say it's incompatible) and I can't see anything in the BIOS. My CPU is pretty old at this point and I was thinking of upgrading once prices go back to normal, but "forced" upgrades suck. A lot of people probably aren't going to be able to install Windows 11.

TPM doesn't have anything to do with the processor, it's either an integrated chip on the mainboard (hardware TPM) or firmware based (firmware TPM).

It's something you mostly see in business line laptops, which is used for an added layer of security. I can't imagine Windows will keep it as a system requirement, unless they really want to to hardcore on the security (and leave a lot of current consumer grade systems out).

Yes, CPU firmware.(?)

Nice to see Valve announcing the Switch Pro for Nintendo

It looks like a Game Gear, so ugly as sin) but with it supposedly having a chip that's modelled on the PS5 then at that price its an absolute bargain. Or at least I think so. Its essentially a portable PC that you can take your entire Steam library with you then plug in to a monitor and when you get home and continue playing there. Don't know how the track pads will work as they were supposedly awful on the Steam controller.

Nice that they've thought about scalpers with the caveat that you need to have bought something prior to June 2021 on Steam to be in with a chance to reserve a unit. Should help a bit but this will still be another piece of hardware thats hard to get hold of.

Very tempted to put in a reservation if I can as that entry price is too good not to miss out on. Don't have a gaming PC and this is a great way to do it and be able to play your PC games from the couch. Hmmm, doubt I'd be able to nab one anyway but something I'll keep me eye on. The savings on PC games would be a nice upside as I've not bought many PC games so plenty of discounts still to be had by me that most will have already taken advantage of.

It’s Steam OS so it’s library is going to be limited to what is supported with Linux. Battery is going to be limited as well (site says 2 - 8 hours).

Glad to know I wasn’t the only one who thought that

I’ll probably get this.  It’s crazy cheap!  Can’t believe that it’s less than £50 more than an OLED Switch, for a handheld system that’s roughly half as powerful as an Xbox Series S!! :o
